Prado out of lineup, nursing sore hamstring

Martin Prado was another noticeable absence from the Braves lineup on Friday night. Manager Fredi Gonzalez revealed Prado has been playing with a sore hamstring and he wanted to sit him a game to rest it.

He said he noticed Prado favoring it quite a bit on Thursday night in left field and running the bases.

“He’s trying to manage it,” Gonzalez said. “But these guys are athletes and all of a sudden they want to go an extra step and get really, really bad.”

Gonzalez is hoping that by giving Prado a day off here and there until the All-Star break and resting for four days off over the break, he can avoid a stint on the disabled list.

Gonzalez moved Jason Heyward into the third spot in Prado’s absence, where Heyward was hitting for the third time this season. He moved rookie Andrelton Simmons to the second spot for the first time. Simmons played his first 23 games in the majors in the bottom third of the order.

“Use (his) speed and sandwich him between (left-handers Michael) Bourn-y and Heyward there,” Gonzalez said. “What is he about .310 now?”

Actually, Simmons was hitting .321 entering Friday night.

Looking ahead, Gonzalez said he plans to give Chipper Jones a rest on Saturday against right-hander Stephen Strasburg and give Brian McCann a day off on Sunday against left-hander Gio Gonzalez. He plans to play Juan Francisco at third base Saturday. He went 2-for-2 with an RBI off Strasburg on May 26.

So basically FG is setting them up for failure during a important series against a 1st place team they can’t seem to beat with the regular lineup.

Freddi has no confidence his best hitter is going to make the All-Star team?

Why didn’t Fredi rest Prado last night?

You put your best players on the field for a series with the division leader — especially in light of this new one game elimination wild card format!

OK~!!!! I try and give Freddie every chance I can! I Was NEVER A Booby Cox Fan! I was long the same thought as a guy who called His self “Robert!” Cox is one of the winnigest managers of all time! However He also lost more games than any mger in baseball! Tonights game~ Well~ Freddie Lost it due to his mismanagement! Down one run in Bottom of the 9th~ runner on second NO OUTS! He lets “Big Face” Hinske Bat~ and of course swing away? The other choice? The obvious one? Pinch Hit Ross~ have him bunt the runner to third~where there wud be one out? However? The SMART move?????? Would be to pinch hit Tim Hudson~! Let him bunt the runner to 3rd! Freddie Lost this game! It’s all on Freddie! Freddie Does seem to have some sort of “lateral” thinking going on.
Unlike “The Donkey” Cox! However~ I’m startin to think~ Freddie’s lateral thinking? Is sorta Like “Rocky and Bullwinkle?” “Watch me pull a rabbit outta my hat?” The All Star game is approaching?
He sits Prado~ and Uggla!~ Which leaves “Washed Up Diaz” in Left field with that Awesome ability to play the field? And of Course~ We Have the Next “Chris Woodward” playing second? (Jack Wilson?)
Who came to the plate twice in key position to drive in a run?
I try to be open minded about Freddie~ Tonight he Whizzed me off! I’m still gonna give him the “Benefit” of the doubt! However not MUCH longer! Theres Never! been a Major league manager Who
Really didnt have a “Clue” Since Bobby “The Donkey” Cox!
Just my opinion~!
I’m stickin to it!

Uggla needs a day off

Fredi does it again. Winneable game tonight. Hinske should have bunted the runner to 3rd and he would have scored on Sac Fly by Bourn. He didn’t.

Diaz could have bunted a runner over earlier, he hits into DP.

This team needs to play ABC ball. They also need Constanza or Durango or both on the bench. Diaz is a disaster in the field. Missed another one tonight that Prado or Constanza gloves. Defense cost the Braves tonight, including the play where they had a Wash baserunner trapped and McCann held the ball.

Fundamentals are horrible. Pitching coach is horrible. Why let Morse hit a first pitch for a homer. Bounce the damn thing. Knock him down. But, don’t let them hit the first pitch, which Wash was doing all night.
