Still catching up on what I missed, but I see 3 of the Nationals runs scored with two outs with one run coming on a two-out single by the pitcher. That stuff gets old and needs to stop.

It’s not getting beat so much as it is the DANG INCONSISTENCY…..
17 hits the other night, lots of runs and right back to nearly nothing.

Yup, the Diaz defenders are using his split stats to justify carrying a guy on the roster based purely on 62 ABs. The guy is mediocre in the field, can’t throw runners out, his baserunning blunders are Braves folklore, and even if you use his lefthanders-only OPS of .780 he’d be next-to-last of the position players (only Mac is worse).
If the guy is that situational, then he should be a pinch-hitter. Oh wait, he sucks as a PH!

I am not boiling mad because I accept that this team is not good enough. At least for now.
Delgado is not there yet and neither is Minor.
And Freeman is not where he can be by mid decade. Too much inexperience, not enough from the veterans whom you have to count on (Chipper, Mc Cann, Uggla) so its a frustratingly inconisistent team.
Oh, they can tease you for a time but will break your heart in a moments notice.
Tell me that is NOT a fair assessment.

I think our biggest problem is that we have no viable options beyond our main starting 8 and Ross. Diaz? Wilson? Francisco? Hinske? Ugh.

I don’t mind losing every now and then (cuz, well, we have to), but it does get tiring losing to the Nats. And even that wouldn’t be so bad if we could beat the NL east at a better rate. Well, there’s time to improve. Uggla and Mac haven’t gotten hot yet.

And don’t give me any of that football mentality crap. I’ve been a baseball fan for going on 50 yrs.– this team gives away too many games.
I know the ups and downs of a 162-game season. How much did we miss out on the wild card last year. STOP giving away games!!!
The fact that Mike Minor is still on the 25-man roster is absurd.

In a few yrs we will get there. Even if the francise value appreciates due to the Dodgers and supposed Padres sales, with capital gains tax rates expected to go up, that is less incentive for Liberty to sell, so we are screwed for the forseeable future.
Depends on what happens in the election and the tax issues. For now it ;looks like status quo.

There’s so much wrong with this idea…. Pastornicky doesn’t need to rot on the bench right now, let him keep working in AAA. Rev will be back and ready next year, maybe even this playoffs! No need to dump Francisco unless we’re bringing up a 3B… don’t think Prado (a starting OF) should be the only backup to Chipper.

wise up. He was 0-14 before that hit and most of those against lefties.
Agree w/ the guy who posted this isn,’t 2009. He blows and kills us off the bench cause we only got 2.5 RH bats off bench. It’s well past time to get a better option than him.

If anyone deserves a “celebratory beer” tonight it’s Mike Rizzo, who’s one of the five best GMs in baseball. Wren’s not in the same area code. Nats are so much better than the Braves it’s not even close. You see it almost every game these teams have played this season.

Hey, we need better players than Diaz and I have my doubts he will be in the major leagues after this yr.
As a late bloomer to MLB, he has not had a bad career at all, got the most of his ability but time is comming up.
The whole bench has been disappointing this yr, they have not given us the lift thay they have given us the last couple yrs. Hinske has not been good either. Ross, while not bad has not given the same lift he did last couple yrs.
Down year for the bench and the bullpen save for Kimbrell.

@Rick: I was comparing his LH OPS with the other players’ TOTAL OPS. Because if you want to play that split stuff, his “best” split OPS is lower than almost every other Brave’s “best” split. Only B-Mac, Hinske, Francisco, and Wilson do not have a split OPS higher than Diaz.
So, Diaz is not good enough from one side to alone justify his spot on the roster. Wilson, Francisco, and Hinske are just not good enough period.

Diaz has not been good the last two years. He was a good bench player for us in 2006 and 07, had a down yr in 08, was good again in 2009 and 2010 and was not that good last yr and this yr well, it is what it is.
He gave us 4 good yrs out of 5 from 06 to 10.
One of the good guys in the game who got the most of what he had. He could have given the game up but carved out a 10 yr career.
There is a place for Matt Diaz in the game down the line.
