DOWN ON THE FARM

GWINNETT

JULIO TEHERAN and the G-Men set a franchise record. Last night T-REX helped to establish a new losing record of 13 losses in a row. “No mas” – MANOS de PIEDRAS vs. ‘Sugar Ray’ LEONARD II

RHSP JULIO TEHERAN [L 5-5, 4.50 ERA] 3.2 IP, 10 H, 1 HR, 9 R/ER, 0 BB, 4 SO.

Cuffed and beaten, JULIO slinks off after just 3.2 innings of ineptitude. Where the ‘H’ is last year’s promise????

LHRP ADAM RUSSELL [7.04 ERA] 1.1 IP, 1 H, zeros.

RHRP JAYE CHAPMAN [3.41 ERA], 2.0 IP, 1 H., zeros, 3 BB, 3 SO.

Great bounce-back after a rough outing. Hope it rubs off on TEHERAN.

LHRP D.J. CARRASCO [10.29 ERA] 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R/ER, ` BB, 0 SO.

Pretty much the way things have gone since he arrived.

Hitting aplenty [10 H, 3 2B, 1 3B]. Just couldn’t keep pace with the mound-work!

LF JOSE CONSTANZA [.289 BA] 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI [17], 1 E [3, fielding].

2B TYLER PASTORNICKY [.257 BA] 2-4, 2 RBI [14], 1 BB.

1B ERNIE MEJIA [.303 BA] 1-5, 1 RBI [53], 1 SO.

C JC BOSCAN [.195 BA] 1-3, 1 R, 1 2B [8], 1 RBI [15], 1 BB.

SS JOSH WILSON [.248 BA] 2-3, 1 R, 2 2B [16], 1 SO.

RF FELIX PIE [.288 BA] 1-5, 1 3B [5], 1 SO.

PH SHAWN McGILL [.179 BA] 1-1, 1 R.

I hope the Braves win tonight. I’m going to root, root, root for the home team.

But, Fredo is beyond belief with his bomb-squad line-up in a winnable first game of a series against the division leader. When the second game, Minor versus Strasburg, is a loss unless the baseball gods wake up in a weird mood that morning.

Beyond Belief by Declan McManus

History repeats the old conceits
The glib replies the same defeats
Keep your finger on important issues
With crocodile tears and a pocketful of tissues

I’m just the oily slick
On the windup world of the nervous tick
In a very fashionable hovel

I hang around dying to be tortured
You’ll never be alone in the bone orchard
This battle with the bottle is nothing so novel

So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice

You know she has no sense
For all your jealousy
In a sense she still smiles very sweetly

Charged with insults and flattery
Her body moves with malice
Do you have to be so cruel to be callous

And now you find you fit this identikit completely
You say you have no secrets
And then leave discreetly

[Chorus:]
I might make it California’s fault
Be locked in Geneva’s deepest vault
Just like the canals of Mars and the great barrier reef
I come to you beyond belief

My hands were clammy and cunning
She’s been suitably stunning
But I know there’s not a hope in Hades
All the laddies cat call and wolf whistle
So-called gentlemen and ladies
Dog fight like rose and thistle

I’ve got a feeling
I’m going to get a lot of grief
Once this seemed so appealing
Now I am beyond belief

[Chorus]
I might make it California’s fault
Be locked in Geneva’s deepest vault
Just like the canals of Mars and the great barrier reef
I come to you beyond belief

He does realize that Matt Diaz plays left field and NOT 2nd base right? And he does realize that Prado was an All-Star at 2nd base right? And he does realize that Uggla is not playing 2nd base, right?

Make sure you give those questions in order or he might get confused. One at a time would probably work best.

well, just because they are scouting him doesn’t mean they will pursue him, It’s a teams duty to scout all available options , it helps to narrow the field and focus the team’s gaze onto the one piece they feel they need.

even with Uggla’s recent slump his WAR at 2B is 5th in MLb and 2nd in the NL Infante is 9th in MLB

in UZR (most highly rated defensive metric) Infante is 9th in MLB and Uggla is 12th for 2012

so ,you see, Uggla is worth it, and he isn’t getting $60 million for the next 3 years either , he’s getting $39 mill for the next 3 years

In case you missed the Twitter feed, notes from field: Prado has been nursing a sore hamstring, nothing serious but Gonzalez wanted to give him a day off to rest after seeing him look a little tentative last night. Plus, Diaz has good numbers in limited at-bats vs. Detwiler (3-for-7). Prado is 6-for-12 against him, but again, Fredi said he saw him a little tentative on couple of plays and running bases last night….

For Uggla, it’s the day off to clear his head, relax or whatever, that Gonzalez has been indicating was coming as this Uggla slump deepened. First start in a month for Jack Wilson, who is 4-for-5 against Detwiler. Fredi described it as killing two birds with one stone — Uggla gets a rest, Wilson gets some needed ABs….

Chipper will rest tomorrow (Francisco will play 3B) and McCann will rest Sunday….

Hi Jayson. Can we Braves fans expect a trade for a starting pitcher AND a bat? After Beachy went down and the inconsistencies of Minor and Delgado, this is an obvious need. But they lack of consistence in the offense, especially when Chipper Jones isn’t in the lineup.
Jayson Stark (1:49 PM)

Money is too big an issue to think they’ll trade for both. They’re prioritizing an “impact” starter. That’s what I was told. But remember, they hate dealing for rent-a-players. So they’ll need to be creative, in more ways than one.

You have to remember that guys like Teheran and Delgado are very young. I don’t think “mediocre” is the right word. They just have a lot of growing, and growing up, to do. I like their core a lot. But not sure they’re ready to win without making a significant deal.

The Braves need a SP with young pitching to spare. The Cubs have Dempster and/or Garza to offer. How is that not a perfect match?
Jayson Stark (2:01 PM)

Dempster is a rental. Garza just doesn’t seem like their kind of guy to me. A little too, what’s the word, flamboyant? Tempestuous? But in this market, I don’t know if they can afford to be too picky. They need an arm. And I expect them to find one.

The onlybravesfan & Mark go to 5:39..the facts…what is it you don’t understand?

Why am I lumped in with him? I knew his contract details, I told MarkB that he was wrong. Before you posted. I didn’t spell it out year by year though…

On a serious note..The real Yogi Berra is very sick and may not live…if you will say a little prayer for a great person, player and manager.

Uggla is hitting .235 with 11 HR and struck out 89 freakin times. 89 Ks!!!!!!

Infante is hitting .288 has 7 HR and only struck out 35 times. Makes a lot less money.

I’m sure Wren would agree with you though!!

maybe they can win at least 1 out of 3 this time ? to keep it close. is that asking too much ? maybe. if they get swept again, forget it.

Wren isn’t signing Bourn and he knows it. he’s just being coy.
if they have available money, why didn’t they sign an OF like Ross in the off season ? this GM is only fooling himself and a small portion of the fan base.

if Teheran and Minor were as good as advertised, he wouldn’t be looking for pitching.

besides Cunningham, what decent OF prospects are close to the majors ?
