Lesson learned, never bring in your closer in a non-save situation. TY FG. FML
Wouldn’t surprise me in a non-save situation to see Kimbrel give up a run.
To have a chance to put the game away with that guy in the bullpen ready to close the deal, that’s weak.
You give Craig Kimbrel a lead in the 9th inning, the game is over.
I spoke too soon….
Yes, no one else had any opportunities…
Guys a stud to take Venters and Kimmie deep. no doubters.
June 28th, 201210:14 pm
Blue squeezed him on a pitch before the tater. Too bad.
Can we score 2 off Puttz???
All the guys the Braves have left on base make that home run so frustrating.
Setting up for a dramtic finish in the bottom of the 9th.
either way, if uggla just makes contact with chip on second and no outs, were in good shape to get that run in. Dan uggla cost us this one… and kimbrel closed the deal by getting rocked.
Kimbrel is a goofy looking lil fella….with a cannon for an arm.
June 28th, 201210:15 pm
Yep, homeplate ump has not been consistent all night long. You know your doing bad when both sides are barking at you.
Not even watching the game on TV or listening on radio.
Doesn’t take a genius though to know closers aren’t the same people in non-save situations.
We win this!
You always use your closer in a tie game at home…Usually it is your best chance to hold the tie.
Could you be any more of an obnoxious know-it-all?
June 28th, 201210:16 pm
Location was off on that fastball but give credit to the hitter for hitting it. It’d be nice if the offense picked him up.
One Big Dummy
I hate seeing the closer come into the game with a tie score. It feels like they ALWAYS give up at least one run. Hate it!
Uggla’s the most frustrating Brave. If you’re not producing, at least move the runners.
What a joke.
I won’t say never, but closers do tend to be less than sharp in tie games.
June 28th, 201210:17 pm
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:
Couple guys get on, BMac hits a walk-off homer! Let’s do this!…
June 28th, 201210:18 pm
The Nationals lost today, so what can we expect this bunch to do?
June 28th, 201210:19 pm
Emphasis on “know-it-all” there, DS1.
Glad you finally figured it out.
5.25 ERA for Putz…that mean a 1-2-3 inning is in order for the Braves?
Very simple–if your ‘clean-up’ guy is dropped in the order; he is pissed and comes back making hay. Uggla apparently clamoring to get fescued.
If Chipper does his pre-game dance, we’re up 6-2 and the game’s already over.
I hope JJ will be putz in the 9th.
June 28th, 201210:20 pm
You call curve on Young who is a dead red fastball hitter, walk him, no harm.
I was more keying on “obnoxious”.
Another Classic Fredi move. We can’t use Kimbrel for more than a three out save but we can use him in a non save situation.
June 28th, 201210:21 pm
That would have hit a right handed batter.
End of the hitting streak
Wayward is back!!
Dan Uggla, you’re a classy guy. Fake an injury, and let someone who’s deserving play in the All-Star game. Fan voting is a joke.
June 28th, 201210:22 pm
Good grief – EVERY manager in baseball uses his closer in the top of the 9th in a tie game – learn the game!!!
Heyward has looked really bad at the plate tonight. Swung at several pitches out of the zone in that plate appearance.
ACE, it is to the home team’s advantage to use their closer in the ninth in a tied game. There will not be a save situation for the home team.
June 28th, 201210:23 pm
too many missed chances tonight.
Never use your closer in non-save situations.
Heyward sucks. Bat him 7th.
What do you not understand about using your closer in a tie game at home? Standard baseball stuff there dipstick.
When did y’all want to use Kimbrel?
2 out of 3 isn’t bad, and let’s go take care of the Nats. Peace my friends, and “Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!” Talk later, or tomorrow.
Cmon teen…get on for Mac,This team is due for a walkoff win.
The A Bomb
Just start Prado at 2B and Diaz in LF tomorrow. Give the godson nap time.
A reminder of phoenix’s acumen:
May 26th, 2012
On Opening Day, I predicted Fregosi would be Braves manager by June 15. I’m sticking with it.
June 28th, 201210:24 pm
Another loss that you can hang on Fredi
The super Braves amazing monstrous offense strikes again.
Please, sit Uggla for at least ONE game…
I think Arizona had Kimbrel pitching the 9th for them and we had Putz pitching for us.
June 28th, 201210:25 pm
Damnnnnnnnnnn oh well
This blog just proves that there are a boat load of dum shyts that think they are baseball experts.
Later true baseball fans (battery is dying and I’ve got a sprinkler head to replace…..)
Great play by the Silent Assassin.
It was the right call to use Kimbrel in the 9th. Chris Yong just beat him and the Braves left far too many men on base tonight. What a frustrating loss. Momentum would have been nice heading into a series against the Nationals, but they cough up a lead and squander a bunch of opportunities.
Time for the usual post game quotes. Got to keep running him out there, got to tip your cap and believe the back of the bubble gum card.
June 28th, 201210:26 pm
Blah. Well, we did win the series…
Goes to show baseball is unpredictable.
Introducing: The hottest deadliest pitcher vs the coldest hitter just ahead of Uggla.
2 out 3 isn’t bad….yes it is! The Nats finally lose, and the Braves have a chance to close some ground, and they lay an egg like this.
The Braves face the Nats the next 3 games with Delgado and Minor pitching two of them. They could find themselves 5.5 back really quick.
Poor personnel choices by Fredi have cost the Braves at LEAST 10 losses this year
if uggla is an all star second baseman, i’m an astronaut
The quote will be something like “happy with 2 out of 3.”
BANK ON IT!
DOB jinxed that one. All that love for Kimbrell. (;
The win tonight also would have been great with Delgado and Minor lurking around the bend. No way both of them pitch well in the same series, much less win.
June 28th, 201210:27 pm
truth5, you have been grounded.
It’s a meaningless loss so who cares….
Baseball is about fun and i had some tonight.
Fire FG though!!
So using our best reliever in a tie game in the 9th inning was a bad decision?
It’s OK, that one won’t count come September.
Yea DS1 how did that work out. Fredi said earlier that he WOULD NOT USE KIMBREL IN A NON SAVE SITUATION. You see even Fredi doesn’t listen to Fredi.
June 28th, 201210:28 pm
The Braves got some hits, just couldn’t get them where they would do the most damage.
The Braves also had some pretty bad at bats in key situations. They swung at pitches out of the zone or made some outs early in the count. Otherwise they did have good at bats against Bauer.
“happy with 2 out of 3” is a loser mentality.
June 28th, 201210:29 pm
Well, damn. I wish we could figure out how to win when the gNats lose. Not meant to be tonight. I hate games where the ump is so damn clueless. Night, y’all.
I won’t be on tomorrow for the game as hubby and I are going rockin’ and rollin’ again – Rock of Ages tour at Lakewood. I’ll monitor game on my atbat app for Iphone, tho. God, I hope the Nats are just really tired from the mini-marathon game today.
I am not going to blast Fredi for putting Kimbrall in there for the 9th, but this time Kimbrell did not get the job done.
Its bad when the guy you could count on all yr lets you down and no excuses, the offense did not produce and this is a loss in plain English.
I cannot believe it that Kimbrall of all people lets em down — Very BUMB. Hope this is not the begining of a Kimbrell slump a la Venters or we are really screwed.
No game is a good game when you lose. Braves fans should be pissed at this loss. It was winnable.
Now its panic time again.
Get ready for the post game excuses.
‘2 out of 3′ is a 108 win season
June 28th, 201210:30 pm
I am worried about this series vs the Nats, afraid that we might get swept.
June 28th, 201210:31 pm
I love it when people fabricate quotes to prove their “point”…
Gonzalez isn’t to blame for this one, and that’s coming from me.
He makes poor personnel decisions but I’ll give him kudos for starting the entire front line tonight against Bauer. Good move.
Bringing in Kimbrel is what he’s always done along with almost every other MLB manager. Good move. Young just kills us — always has.
Not an Uggla guy — but I love the way each at-bat is analyzed around here. Starters get around 500-600 each season, so I’m sure an 0 for 4 warrants a benching, demotion to AAA or an outright DFA.
Some of you PROVE moonshine is still alive and well in some of your bathtubs. Holy crap.
I don’t get the fretting over Kimbrel pitching the 9th…come on folks, let’s get a clue. Baseball 101.
June 28th, 201210:32 pm
Well, couldn’t watch the game tonight and figured the Braves wouldn’t sweep anyway, but just found out that Danny boy had the hat trick tonight. Just keeps getting better and better, doesn’t it? How’s that all star looking for you boys and girls now?
A little disappointed in the approaches by Heyward and Bourn in the 9th, very impatient with a not so dominant closer. All this doesn’t matter though, Fredi sucks, the end. That’s the only narrative that matters. Some people can do no wrong. Fredi can do no right. Got it.
JJ pitches his guts out and the puny Braves offense lets him down. Uggla and McCann are killing us at the plate.
Now its panic time again.
And Bob’s you uncle
June 28th, 2012
Was I right or was I wrong?
That is the question, friend.
June 28th, 201210:34 pm
Way to blow the game Craig! Send Kimbrel to Gwinnett. Don’t let him come back until he has stretched his arm out.
I despise Fredi, but as others have said, this one wasn’t on him.
June 28th, 201210:35 pm
Offense sucked tonight, should’ve got JJ a win but didn’t. Move on.
We needed right handed power.
This Twitter stuff is one of the worst features in the history of broadcasting.
Maybe the only questionable move tonight was leaving JJJ in to face the lefty.
Got to score runners on 3B < 2 out, and gotta move runners on 2B with no out
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
