CraZy, Boscan is the type of talent that you build around. The Braves can’t stop him, they can only hope to contain him, and quite frankly, they really can’t even do that anymore. He’s bustin’ out.
Would you bat him cleanup next season? Any of the top 4 slots would work if you ask me.
The braves have a very good team , The problem is the pitchers , they never improve . Before they trade all of their young pitchers , maybe they should try a new pitching coach .
With Chipper Jones ($14 million), Derek Lowe ($15 million), Michael Bourn ($6.84 million) among those coming off of the payroll at the end of this year, the Braves will have some money to play with this winter.
55-60 million committed to 10 players(Uggla, McCann, Hudson, Prado, O’Flaherty, Hanson, Heyward, Venters, Medlen, and Martinez). Easier to think of it in those terms, imo.
The obsession here with this Gattis guy is the one that most baffles me….
————————
I have the same thoughts on Cunningham. All I see in him is a switch hitting version of Jose Constanza. Anyone who thinks this guys will be anything more than a 4th OF is brain dead.
As I see it Boscan is the only untouchable player on the 40 man roster!! Dude will dominate the bigs… Yeah he might be 32 years old, but he’s had less wear and tear so he could catch for 10 plus years. McCann who!!
Cunnigham looks overrated, But you don’t just magically have the kind of power Gattis has shown this year. Kid looks like he has gotten his life together and could be one of those Josh Hamilton kind of stories. He may never hit like Hamilton in the big leagues, but if he keeps putting up numbers like this, he will make the show sometime in 2014 I bet. If he can get healthy, I bet he gets a september callup

Hell, lets ask him.
Hey David O’Brien, what do you think of what goes on here?
I got my Braves jersey on and an old pair of BB pants…..combined with my white over black spikes that I played in while attending high school…..I am good to go tonight….yes this is another “rehab” game for me and I know I got to loose 10-20 lbs. prior to serious participation….after all, being ‘in-shape’ would enhance my professional appearance especially when I check my account balance on the 30th. So I’ll dedicate myself and set a personal goal–you all will be proud of me–after all…..the support I have received–to appear slovenly kept just won’t cut it on this blog.
Are there statistics kept on injuries and injury types?
Seems that there are more Tommy John surgeries happening in the last 3 or 4 years than in the 10 previous years put together.
Is it that they are better at finding this injury than they used to be, or that pitches guys are throwing are causing it more often… or that today’s pitcher has no grit?
Checked out Minor and Delgado’s splits, looking for some trend as to why they keep getting into trouble. Minor’s problem was pretty apparent, stuck out like a sore thumb. Here’s his splits for 1st, 2nd and 3rd time through the order.
This shows me that he’s not making the necessary mid-game adjustments to keep hitters from picking out a pitch and scorching it. Not sure this is something that can be fixed easily, just normal growing pains for a pitcher. I’d like to see the difference in his performance when Ross catches him. Not that Mac is a bad catcher, but I think Ross calls a better game.
Now looking at Delgado, I couldn’t really see anything apparent. Overall, he’s pitched pretty good from a statistical standpoint. Consistent throughout the game, no blaring red flag suggesting a problem with his approach. I did notice that of his 14 starts, he received 2 or fewer runs 7 of those starts. So while the 4-8 record looks pretty rough, with a little extra run support, he might be sitting at 7-5 and we’re not so worried about how he’s pitching.
Maybe Fredi can pull Minor after 3 innings every game and bring in Medlen to get it to the bullpen.
come on man, not his decision. coach will be skewered.
btw, they just said that London School of Economics study showed that team shooting 1st has better chance of winning. Really? How much money was wasted on that study and how many Ph. D.s were granted? Shouldn’t that “study” take not more that a day with high speed internet connection?

Not happening… There will be at least 1 other legitimate/valuable prospect that has to be thrown in. Like a Salcedo/Ahmed. Might need to be Minor +2 prospects, outside our pitchers, we don’t have many great prospects in the minors.
TheOnlyBravesFan, I’d probably be alright with adding Ahmed but like I said, I’d want to try to get a contract in place first too. But out of Bourn and Greinke, I’d choose Greinke as our big ticket item.
TheOnlyBravesFan, I’d probably be alright with adding Ahmed but like I said, I’d want to try to get a contract in place first too. But out of Bourn and Greinke, I’d choose Greinke as our big ticket item.
Yes, the contract needs to be in place. The trade is a bad one of done without it. As for going Bourn vs. Greinke, I can understand that. Especially with Bourn about to turn 30, probably wanting 5-6 yrs. I just don’t think the Braves will spend big money on a pitcher when we have a host of young guys waiting in the minors.
I think if they’re going to go after Grinke they’ll need to let both Hudson and Jurrjens to walk next year. With both of them gone you have some where in the neighborhood of 40-45m million to lock up journey, Grinke and whoever else.

Checked out Minor and Delgado’s splits, looking for some trend as to why they keep getting into trouble. Minor’s problem was pretty apparent, stuck out like a sore thumb. Here’s his splits for 1st, 2nd and 3rd time through the order.
1st: .204 AVG, .626 OPS
2nd: .291 AVG, .915 OPS
3rd: .346 AVG, 1.077 OPS
This shows me that he’s not making the necessary mid-game adjustments to keep hitters from picking out a pitch and scorching it. Uggla is gettin the votes because he leads all second baseman in the NL in every category but batting avg…..
and Mac just went 2-5 and drove in 2 runs, and moving Uggla down in the order will only guarantee less fastballs for him and more struggles

TheOnlyBravesFan, I’d probably be alright with adding Ahmed but like I said, I’d want to try to get a contract in place first too. But out of Bourn and Greinke, I’d choose Greinke as our big ticket item.

I would not give up much of anything for two months only and I’m not sure why Greinke would just sign away free agency for a brand new team

Yes, the contract needs to be in place. The trade is a bad one of done without it. As for going Bourn vs. Greinke, I can understand that. Especially with Bourn about to turn 30, probably wanting 5-6 yrs. I just don’t think the Braves will spend big money on a pitcher when we have a host of young guys waiting in the minors.

agreed, nolie. Grienke’s not even gonna want to talk to NYY, LAA, Boston, Texas, Philly? Only way that happens is if we offer him $150 mil.
I think Bowman’s full of it…

12 12 11 10 10 million for bourn probably wont get it done
but would be a fair offer throw in a 15 million team controlled option buyout at 2.5

Even if it’s just for a 2 month rental, I wouldn’t hesitate to give up Minor for Greinke, extension or not.
Imagine getting to face Minor once or twice a year… guaranteed Braves victories in 2013 and beyond.

not sure the union would allow a contract that gets lower over the years instead of higher…..

I think if they’re going to go after Grinke they’ll need to let both Hudson and Jurrjens to walk next year. With both of them gone you have some where in the neighborhood of 40-45m million to lock up journey, Grinke and whoever else.

Maybe so. Maybe the Braves win the World Series. Then I guess the Braves can find replacement pitchers for Greinke and probably JJ. I don’t know
