@TOBF: yeah, we have the highest strength-of-schedule in the NL. Above us overall are the Orioles, Rays, Yankees, and Jays, with the BoSox, Nats and Reds in order right below us. So basically we’ve been playing the best teams in baseball over the past four weeks.
Let’s hope that as the schedule lightens up we can take advantage.
So Juan Francisco>Kevin Youkilis? No way my friend
Not saying that, but don’t think Youk needs to sit behind Chipper, he doesn’t seem to like it anyway. But the ChiSox need a 3B, we have 2 (chipper prado), so we’re fine.
Getting multiple sources and stuff reporting this, so I’d say it’s done. just wonder what the cost is and what/if the braves offered.
Ha! Fredi said, “we’ll keep running him out there.” I’m a freaking psychic!
Well, since it’s h8 Minor time, there could be hope. FG said he was bringing back his entire staff, and lo and behold, his hitting coach got axed. If FW has seen enough, we’ll know by tomorrow.
I keep giving Fredi a six game leash on his job. 3-3 in NY and BOS was about the minimum but the trip was a disappointment given the two last bad losses.
Given that this home stand features a week AZ team and the division leading NATS, I am thinking four wins are a minimum. Anything less – at home – he gots to go.
We don’t need youk…. We have an every day 1st. Base man and a platoon in 3rd. (Kranc, chipper ,d hinskie)…and the next season we’ll have prado on 3rd….
White Sox give up Zach Stewart and an utility infield player; Stewart had an ERA of 5.88 in the majors last year and a 4.20 ERA in the minors. Surely we could have gave up someone like that….
@ Tomahawkin: the reality is that we have the highest strength-of-schedule in the NL. And the four teams above us as well as the one just below us are those in the AL East. We have basically been playing the best teams in baseball for most of the past month. That’s not like the Dodgers or Cards, who have had a much easier row to hoe.
Ben Ingram must be joking. He just said there were some tough questions for Fredi in the post game. We know for sure one person who didn’t ask any of them.
If any dpt. Have to be upgrade rigth now is our starting pitching….enough pressure on minor’s and delgado’s shoulders …send them down to AAA…again huddy, hanson,jj, medlen and teheran or redmond (c. Martinez started in winter league , it could be an option too)
Little surprising that teams continue to pitch to Heyward. He hasn’t been walked at all. Pitchers are going right at him and he’s making them pay. I keep thinking it’s going to end and he’ll be walked, but it hasn’t happened yet.
Chipper’s health is up in the air and Youk would have gotten plenty of starts at the hot corner plus he could spell Freeman against a tough lefty. And if he doesn’t start one day, then he makes our bench ten times better, cause the bench could use some improvement desperately. Then you keep Prado in LF next year and have Youk as your everyday 3rd basemen and you still have plenty of money to spend on a CF plus a Starting pitcher or two.
White Sox give up Zach Stewart and an utility infield player; Stewart had an ERA of 5.88 in the majors last year and a 4.20 ERA in the minors. Surely we could have gave up someone like that…
Carlyle and Pastornicky….. Flande and Pastornicky…. Redmond and Pastornicky….Hughes and Pastornicky
Now, I don’t know how any of those pitchers compare to Stewart (who seems to be young), and I’m in no way advocating trading REV or wanting Youk here, just throwing out ideas….
It dont matter, he is a fry cook at micky ds, whats he making 13.5 a year, oh, that be in thousands, 13.5? Oh, no hes making $16 mil! Somebody got screwed didnt they? Yup! Again! And again! Yup and again!
David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com tweets the White Sox gave up pitcher Zach Stewart and a utility player. Heyman tweets the utility player is Brent Lillibridge.
Ben Ingram must be joking. He just said there were some tough questions for Fredi in the post game. We know for sure one person who didn’t ask any of them.
Heyward now up to .278/.351/.510. Incredible turnaround.
Yeah……… We saw a pretty good stretch where Heyward looked good at the plate but was mostly just missing and getting so, so results. Then a couple of weeks where he did not look good. Now we see what he looks like when he’s not missing much at all, and everything is going his way. I think he had two swinging bunt, and one broken bat, infield hits in the last two games.
And the utility player was Brent Lillibridge, batting a hefty .175. Sure looks like the Red Sox got a haul for Youk (sarcasm). If that’s all it took, I wonder if Wren has been asleep the past week?
Uggly all start second base….pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase, people…where are your sense???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Reports yesterday were that they would eat 5 million of his 8 milliion left. If that infact proves to be the case and that is all the whitesox gave up thats the definition of a steal.
4 runs and mccan, uggla and freeman didn’t do much…hum, sounds good to me …it’s time to be positive….and a 3-3 roud trip against nyy and bosox is’nt bad either…how many teams can play better than that against those teams in their homes??…give some credit to our guys..

If I need a laugh, I just scroll the blog after a loss to get some perspective on life. Some of you all are hilarious, just not intentionally. I am so glad the AL stint is over, I hate it. I missed Hinke’s triple, how the he** did that happen?! Awesome! He’s too good a hitter not to get it going and I guess today was the day. I still love these guys, losers today or not. I am a FAN>some of you are not.
David O’Brien: “What are your thoughts on the team so far, namely the pitching and what will you be looking for comethe deadline”?
Frank Wren: “We like our team a lot. Heyward is coming on strong and we feel McCann is too good to struggle for long. The pitching has been good for the most part. We really like Minor and Delgado and feel they can help stabilize this rotation for years to come. Just because they hit a few bumps in the road and have a few little hiccups doesn’t mean you quit on them. Hanson, Hudson and the way Jair pitched a few days ago make us excited about those top three spots in the rotation moving forward.
On trades – nothing out there really excites me right now. A tweek here or there might be possible, but expecting anything major is highly unlikely. Our bench is chalk full of vetrans and proven guys and promising guys like Francisco. All in all, we love our team”.
Garza is not comming here and neither is Dempster.
With Chipper back and Freeman;s finger better there was really no room for Youklis here.
The Red Sox did not get much fr sure and word has it they still are on the hook for some of the $$$$$$$$$$$ left on Youk;s salary. Not good for them.
My thinking is that they will ride Monor and Delgado through the year come hell or high water, no way $$$$$$$ is being added to the budget. And its foolish to get a rental that they have no chance of signing.
So much for Braves baseball in 2012.
I see the RS put Buchholz on the DL, they are still snake bit by injury.
All of the post game comments are the same just look at any others during the season. Just have to tip your cap, keep running him out there, believe the back of the bubble gum card etc.
@George: do we really need to have somehing posted to know what will be said/
Fredi: gotta tip your cap to those guys over there – that’s a really good ballclub.
Minor: I just wasn’t quite hitting my spots. But I’m going to go out and keep battling.
Field Player: we’re in a bit of a slump lately, but it’s a long season and we’ll come out of it. We’re going home now [where we have a losing record] so hopefully we can get a streak started.
Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN
The Red Sox are eating all but $2 million of the money owed to Youkilis for the rest of the season.
Wow——that is a bad deal for Boston. Terrible trade if that is all CWS picks up. Great deal for CWS.
If CWS picked up half of it I could see it.
You want to complain about Frank Wren, Ben Cherington has been horrible for a once proud franchise. That guy has zero clue in the big boy;s seat. He makes Wren look great.
Bobby Valentine might rub some the wrong way but given how that team has been snake bit the bottom line record for that team is not so bad. Look how their SP has been a mash unit.
Despite the pitching problems, I still have confidence in this team and I think they’ll have a good homestand vs. poor offensive teams in Arizona, Washington and Chicago.
I, for one, have had it with Minor and Uggla. Minor is the same story over and over; he could be demoted to long-man in the bullpen (swap roles with Medlen) or sent back to AAA. I think he has earned the right to not-start more games. Uggla is a .250 hitter at best who will wind up with 30 HR’s that look good in stat sheets; he is a downgrade, imo, from Infante, who had earned a promotion and a positon, not a trade. Since he is on the books and unlikely to be traded for value, I say, bat him 8th and tell him he earns his way back up when he gets his average to .280. Period. McCann cannot hit.
The Braves have more production in the bottom of their order than the middle. So change those guys around. Simmons has earned a promotion to the 2-hole; move Prado to 3. Bat Chipper or Freeman (neither great choices) cleanup. Move Heyward up to 4 or 5. Bourn has also been umimpressive and I now think Braves could afford to pass on him at renewal time. Changes are mandated. Who ’s in charge here?

I expect FW to be getting busy soon. There will be moves (maybe a trade, but not necessarily) made before the All-Star break…
