Francisco certainly does not have a rep as a good glove or of any range. Not sure why that would change just because he is a Brave
he gas a strong arm and a lot of pop and basically nothing else.
even when he played regulatly in the minors he made Francouerian amounts of outs.
That is unlikely to get anything but worse in the bigs.
I’m having a real hard time figgering out why anybody would defend the guy like you have been

Now THIS I find surprising, at least the hits part. From ESPN Stats & Info: Derek Jeter turns 38 today. Jeter has more hits, runs, and a better BA than Pete Rose did at the time he turned 38 years old.

nolie – If he has no value, then WTF is he even in the bigs much less the Braves?

NOt every player in MLB is going to be a high average, high OBP, high OPS player who walks more than he K’s and to believe that that’s what you’re going to get throughout a 25 man roster is just idiotic.

The Dude was known to NOT be a great defensive player or high production type when he came over. Dusty Baker said as much – that he needs regular playing time.

He hasn’t gotten that playing time, though when he did he performed. I just question the vitriol aimed in his direction – I’m not supporting him because I feel he’ll be a great player, just that we got what we knew we were getting because he was who was available and who we could afford. Blaming the player for being what he’s always been is just awfully douchy, IMO.

No nolie – You don’t think so because you never bothered to look. I refer you to the numbers I posted earlier because I DID look.

It’s a small sample size but only because that’s all that’s been given to him.

Is he going to be Joe Superstar? Not likely. Is he going to be a solid everyday player with deifiencies? Maybe, but not if he just comes off of the bench. But does he deserve the vitriol he gets around here? No.

And whether you or others want them here or not is a moot point of the highest degree. WE have who was a vailable and could be fit within our salary limitations. YOu want great players at every position? Follow the Yankees who spend more for their starting infield than the Brves do for their entire team.

Francisco might have some value, but sitting on the Braves bench isn’t where he needs to be. We can do better than him. He doesn’t have a future here, and his SO/BB ratio is horrendous. When he makes contact, he can hit it far, but he usually doesn’t make contact. Don’t we have enough K-Machines on our team?

Sad thing about the Braves waiting and waiting to make a trade is that they ware wasting games where the new pieces or pieces could have impact. As far as adding Mejia, he would certainly on paper help an awful bench. And if he is a force offensively, toss him out in LF, move Prado to 3B and let Chipper come off the bench. The idea is to win games by putting your best lineup on the field day in and day out and Fredi just doesn’t seem to get it.

Francisco is 3-18 in June… all singles. 6 K’s, 0 BB, 1 SF.

Hard for a guy to show what he can do with such limited playing time… but also hard to get behind a guy who does so little with the opportunities he’s given.

I’d rather have Francisco on the roster than Wilson, though, if given the choice. But that’s not saying much.

This. If Francisco is a good player, and HE BACKS UP CHIPPER, for crying out loud. He’s the backup 3B. Why didn’t he get to play when Chipper was hurt? Why? Instead, Constanza who didn’t make the 25man roster was the answer to play every day.

I’d still rather have J.J. Hoover than Juan Francisco. Hoover might be able to help in the bullpen right now so Medlen could pitch in the rotation.

Wish we could do better than HInske – but where’s the hate for him? It’s not there and it shouldn’t be – any more than it should for JF and Wilson.

These players are on the team because we could affor d them and they were available. It would be great if this were not the case – if we could go pick up whoever we wanted regardless of the price. While Hinske’s not been producing, he has a track record. JF doesn’t. Wilson is a mentor, he’s not our biggest problem yet. What JF doing, mentoring Chipper? Doubt it. He just sits on the bench, hardly getting playing time, even when the starter in front of him gets hurt.

I know I keep bringing that up, but it seems significant to me. When Mac goes down, I don’t see the Braves bring up another catcher to play so Ross can still backup. Yet they did that with Juan. I wonder why….
