Pretty much predicted post-game quotes in my 5:48 post. Only thing missing was recurring comment from Fredi “our pitchers having trouble getting over the hump”. Could it be that “the hump” is self-created and the only way to “get over it” is to put in a pitcher that won’t put themselves in a 4-5-run hole by the 3rd inning?
It’s amazing how much this area has grown. I’ve been here a little over 7 years. I guess you went to the Red Bar a few times, eh. Love the crab cakes, best I’ve ever had by far.
We should know more about the Braves after upcoming homestand. It doesn’t look good. What is wrong with McCann???? He should have been traded yesterday. If they don’t get their act together, there may be alot of trades. Tear it down and start over. No Garza please. Wren would be crazy to trade young pitchers. The only one that could be traded is Minor.
Man, McCann another 0-4. And when he hit the ball, weak grounders for a DP and such. Extension..yeah right.
Heyward is back..way back. Good to see him hitting the ball on the screws almost every abat. About six or seven games now.
We still aren’t hitting the ball. 1-11 RISP.
And people still want more pitching?
While a 3-3 trip to NY and Boston isn’t bad, still concerned about the offense.
I won’t even bring up Chipper and him being a part time player. So sad to see this unfold in his last season. Real bad. Like I’ve said before, I was hoping for a Mantle decision in Spring Training.
I figured the Sox would take 2 of 3 from the Braves this weekend. I didn’t figure Friday to be the lone Braves’ win.
It’s time for Minor to get sent down. Keeping him up and in the rotation for what appears to be an unending string of starts that don’t see the end of the fifth inning is beyond counterproductive. That kid’s head has to be getting close to mush at this point.
Hate to point it out, DOB, but your note on Byrd’s success vs Minor was extraneous. Byrd got DFA’d a couple of weeks ago.
RHP Julio Teheran, SS Tyler Pastornicky, and C Christian Bethancourt
You have to be joking. First, that’s a huge overpay for a team that relies on their minor league talent because they have a mid-market payroll. Second, Minor and Delgado get extended looks in the majors, perform badly(moreso in Minor’s case) and get to stick with the organization while we trade potentially the most promising one for a quick fix? Ridiculous. Wren isn’t that stupid. You don’t spend all of these years keeping Teheran out of trade talks and then ship him off for the shiny prize at the deadline.
Fredi the Freeloader wouldn’t move Ugglier out of the cleanup spot if he went 0 for 60. Loyalty to your favorite player is one thing but, hurting the team because of it is a firing offense.

That could be Nich B — I want to hold on to Delgado and Teheran but would not mind moving Minor and a Terrdoslavich for a SP so long as the $$$$$$ are okay.
maybe ever give Minor and Salcedo who is likely a future DH.
I am so surprised that Boston ate that much and they have done that in the past like when they released Lugo with more than a yr remaining and they also ate a good chunk of Edgar Retteria when he did not work out for them.
As it turned, Renteria did have some game left when they moved him after one year. We got the benefot of that and more benefit when we moved Renteria to Detroit.
Read the post-game qoutes. FREDI says he is going to keep running MINOR out there. I believe MINOR is a lost cause. FREDI is to stubbern to make a change in rotation. FREDI should be replaced, but it won’t happen because it has been a long time since BRAVES have replaced a MGR midseason, they just don’t do it. Hope I am wrong.
Minor is probably not a lost cause, jeez you have to let these guys take their lumps, Roy halladay in 2000 had an ERA of 10.64 for goodness sake, not saying Minor is Halladay, but you can’t just give up on young pitchers that quickly
@Bat: not sure if I ever went to the Red Bar, but we loved Bayou Bill’s for crabs, shrimp, and beer. Then there was this really good little casual Italian cafe right off the beach in Seaside. Those were our two go-two places in that area.

Minor kinda reminds me of Jason Marquis – definitely talented at some level, but seemingly stubborn and not able to figure out how to “pitch” rather than just “throw”. We threw Marquis in with Wainwright for the JD Drew deal, and he seemed to figure it out there. But then he moved on and has never been able to stick with one club. Minor may be another one such player.
Bat – Been raining here since around 3. I looked at the radar and saw that you and MikeinFL are getting plenty of rain. I know you don’t need alot. We can use it here in South Georgia.
Braves just 4 out. All, in reality, is good.

We need our offense to come around. Very, very pleased with Heyward. Looking very good.

Alright, over the loss. Moving on to Tuesday night.
This crazy storm keeps changing every few minutes it seems like. Now they are saying some dry air may get pulled into it and weaken it. Calling for 5 inches of rain here now…… We’ll see…….. It looks like you should get plenty of the rain
Take a look at those 2… first is Infante, 2nd is Uggla. Infante leads in batting average, but Uggla leads him in OBP/OPS/OPS+ RBI, Runs scored, and WAR. Uggla’s taken more walks and has just 1 more error than Infante does.
I really don’t think adding a pitcher like Garza puts us over the top. I believe we should just stand pat. After all Wren said this is a contending team and that they needed a 2nd chance. Lets save all of our prospects and money for the upcoming offseason.
I can’t believe people think Infante is better than Uggla…
Once again you guys way, way over-estimate what Wren will give away for a rental (even a year-and-a-half rental). Go back and look at the Michael Bourn trade… we heard all kind of speculation about the “big three” pitchers being in a deal. What did we give up? Oberholzer, Clemens, Abreu and Schafer.
I really think you should adjust your thinking downward as to the prospects Wren will trade away.
Jimmy — fine here in Jax Beach, just more rain but no need to build an ark. Hope you get what you need up there.
Delgado and Teheran will not be traded. End of discussion. Anyone remember Glavine’s league leading 17 losses his first year? You don’t give up this early, especially for mediocre pitchers like Garza.
NickB Maybe I’am missing something , Can you give me some good stats supporting McDowell’s seven years with the braves . I have tons of great stats for Mazzone .
NickB Maybe I’am missing something , Can you give me some good stats supporting McDowell’s seven years with the braves . I have tons of great stats for Mazzone .
Minor will probably be a part of a trade to get a starter, he still has value as he’s young and left handed.
I wouldn’t mind that at all, however what starter would we be able to get with Minor? I’d love if we could pad prospects with Minor to get Garza – but other than Teheran, not sure there is enough on the farm to acquire him.
If I were frank wren, and thank goodness for the Braves I am not, here is what I would do:
1. Fire fredi g. And let the new manager fill his assistants
2. Trade for a starting pitcher. Either get McCarthy from the A’s or get Garza or preferably Greinke. Trade either Delgado or minor, bethancourt or gattis, and pastornicky/Cunningham/prospect for the pitcher.
3. EXTEND BOURN
4. Get Nunez from the NYY. Filll in when Chipper is out in LF with Prado at 3B and next year take over in LF.
If JJ can put together a few good starts I think we can get by without acquiring a starter if we focus on strengthening the bullpen and bench. Delgado had a bad start yesterday but he really has settled down since his rough April. Minor is another story and if we acquire some bp help at worst we put Medlen in his spot and have a serviceable bottom of the rotation pitcher. Scoring a few more runs might also ho a long way for these starters. Offense has to do its part, we don’t have a rotation like we had in the past. Getting one starter won’t change that.
* Minor (or Delgado)/Bethancourt/Pastornicky/Tier 2 Prospect(s) for a Greinke or Garza & Vet RH/LH Reliever
* Francisco/Prospect(s) Arm(s) for Joe Saunders
* Prospect(s) for Bench Help
My ideal returns for deals ….
* Greinke/K-Rod (if from Brewers)
* Garza/Shawn Camp/Reed Johnson (if from Cubs)
* Scott Podsednik (type for bench)
If it were up to me, I’d get two starters, a veteran solid reliever and bench help, whether it’s in same deal or separate deals.
Addition of say a Garza/Greinke & Saunders would boost the rotation. The addition of Minor/Delgado (whichever one isn’t traded) is a boost to the pen. Any addition to the bench would help, so really no specifics there.
I agree. I dig Greinke, but not for the cost, and the fact that he’s a rental. I wouldn’t give up Minor for him, much less these psycho packages people are coming up with.
I strongly think either Dempster or Garza will be with Atlante by the deadline, Greinke was just an idea thrown out there. I think getting a secondary one like Saunders would help, not a necessary, but would help.
Honestly, if available, I’d like Darren Oliver from Jays as the reliever to be gotten. Veteran who is still very effective.
The only way it turns into a Alexander/ smoltz deal is if we deal Teheran. If we can deal minor or Delgado to obtain garza or greinke in a package we will be looking good
I feel the same way about Greinke that I felt a couple of years ago. Don’t really want him, seems like a good pitcher/good guy but I worry about if he would be comfortable in Atlanta. Could end up doing very well here but its a risk imo.
After reading what Boston got when they traded away Youkilis and cash, I wonder why the Braves didn’t want to be in on that. Regardless of what some here think, we could have used Youkilis, especially since we cannot count on Chipper anymore. Still, on the other side of the coin, I don’t believe the Braves are interested in being a better team if they are happy with the substandard piece of shyt product they have put on the field this year. And if they don’t care, then don’t expect me to give two shyts either.
To be fair, although I admire Frank’s willingness to hold onto young talent, you can’t keep every single one and not all of them will pan out just see the baby braves for proof, only McCann is the survivor of that group. The untouchable ones to me are …
Those are strictly the young talent that has proven something thus far, I’m sure there’s some others in the system that could be labeled untouchable, but until they prove something, I couldn’t fully label them that.
Minor like it or not, is expendable. There are others in the system that are expendable (pitching wise that is). The position player depth is a lot to be left desired in terms of depth alone, but there are a few who could be deemed expendable.
I’m not saying deplete the farm system, but if you have an over abundant amount (in this case young pitching), it’d be silly not to invest them into current players who could help now and possibly beyond if they are extended and Bourn if re-signed is prime example of what my point is.
Why do people always compare Uggla with other 2nd basemen. For what Braves brought him here for, I’d like to see his stats in relation to other cleanup hitters. He was brought here to solidify the offense. Has the Braves offense shown improvement since we got Uggla? He certainly didnt help get us to the playoffs last year after we got there the year b4 without him.
BTW, Uggla makes 10 million bucks a year more than Infante. Sure would be nice to have an xtra 10 mil to spend.
Bat, I haven’t seen many balls thrown to the kid. Normally, I’d wish he was walking more, but honestly, he’d be behind in the count more often if he didn’t swing at those pitches. Just very surprised to see pitchers still challenging him. Thinking that they will stop this week, but we’ll see……
But what is the expectations for everyone? Say we do trade for Garza and give up a youthful package. What would be considered a success?
I just don’t see Garza making us that much better to be worth the package it would take. I rather see the Braves bring in a bench player and bullpen arm while paying most of there remaining salaries for lesser prospects. Wren said this team needed a 2nd chance so no major moves should be made.

Take a look at those 2… first is Infante, 2nd is Uggla. Infante leads in batting average, but Uggla leads him in OBP/OPS/OPS+ RBI, Runs scored, and WAR. Uggla’s taken more walks and has just 1 more error than Infante does.

I see the braves offering minor//Delgado, bethancourt, and pastornicky/tier 2 prospect for garza or greinke
The braves will not trade teheran nor should they. Jurrjens will remain a brave until the offseason then be moved

5. Extend Heyward in the off season

LOL at Infante. He had a HUGE first month, posting a .330/.358/.650 line through his first 28 games.
Since then, he’s hit .262/.283/.333 (that’s a .616 OPS) in 34 games. With 23 strikeouts and THREE walks during that time.
I’m sure you Uggla critics would be singing Infante’s praises right now if he were here…

There is a reason the Chicago Cubs are in LAST PLACE.
Garza is 3-5, 4.07.
And as for Minor, he was a No. 1 pick 3 years ago. He was sped through the system.
Heck it took the Phils 4 years to unload Drabek and he went for a guy who was worth it.
Overpaying for a guy like Garza FOR 2 MONTHS would solidify Wren as a joke of a GM and some of you as frickin’ insane.

The untouchable ones to me are …
* Teheran
* Delgado
* Freeman
* Heyward
* McCann
* Simmons
* Kimbrel
