Joey Votto is 12th in the majors in RBI. He’s not anywhere near the 12th-most productive hitter in the majors. He’s not anywhere near the 5th-most productive hitter in the majors. He’s the most productive hitter and it’s not all that close. His performance with runners on, with runners in scoring position, with runners on third is even better than his overall numbers.
Can any of you who think we should pay any attention at all to RBI explain that one?
70’s….70 degrees in So. California, wow…no wonder people look so cool, calm and collected out there–Bourn, tremendous effort–a proud Brave there.
Terrific catch by Bourn to take potential homer from Nix. Man is the ball flying here today….
It looked like Tommy’s foot just slipped a little on a warm up pitch
Days like today make me thankful that Livan is gone!!!!
that was some play
June 20th, 20122:42 pm
It’s pretty much between 65-80 degrees here all year
McFann, see what you started?!
And cab, thanks…
June 20th, 20122:43 pm
Hopefully Hanson can get out of Yankee Stadium alive today. Looks like it’s a fun day to hit with the hot tempatures.
The A Bomb
It’s not 70 everywhere in SoCal….she must be closer to the water. Low 90s in my neck of the region.
If it makes any of you feel more vindicated.
That’s funny that Chipper says it’s gonna take some time to get back in the groove because he’s been away so long but yet he didn’t need or want any rehab games because he supposedly didn’t need them!!!!
Brian from SC
Who are you arguing with? No one cares. Watch the game.
Let me tell you being here at the stadium watching the reaction of Yankee fans when Bourn robbed that HR…that was great!!
It would be good to have an All Bloated Player Team…Francisco could be there, Sabathia, P. Fielder…well, that’s not fair…because Francisco is NOT a player. (Havana Fats: manager)
Bourn is as important a resign as I can remember for the Braves. Wren better get it done.
June 20th, 20122:44 pm
Kat — I bet!
The A Bomb-
The South Bay…maybe 2.5 miles from the beach
i was surprised to see who has the highest slugging % in our starting lineup today – Simmons
And BTW that catch is EXACTLY why you re-sign Bourn (we won’t, despite clearing payroll.)
McFann :Ô: :Ô: :ô:
June 20th, 20122:45 pm
Well, thanks…I am generally a happy person…
I think you just pretend to be sad when BigMac screws up. You’re always over it in 2 minutes time.
That’s a front!… Nah, I am better about that then I used to be—I mean, when I’m around people, I try not to act too upset. A few years ago, I would let it effect my real life to a certain extent, but not so much anymore. Sometimes I slip, though…
I figured cabravesfan — you get the marine layer. We got some up here today — but it burns off quickly. 101 the other day.
Nice, comes back strong and strikes out Jeter and Grandy.
Great, Jerry started all the crap about Uggla’s AVG and one guy i woulda like to sic on him is here and Jerry is nowhere to be found and we have to get the 10000001th dose of the same points repeated once more.
7 balls, 4 strikes to the first two hitters.
9 strikes, 3 balls to the last three.
That’s more like it.
The A Bomb — Exactly! (on both points )
@why…..That doesn’t surprise me….customarily Professional athletes have the “It Factor.”
June 20th, 20122:46 pm
What’d I start?…
He’s been smart. First-pitch fastballs, ’cause he knows these guys like to take a pitch or two; then wrinkles, wrinkles, wrinkles. Slider’s pretty awesome today.
He threw a 3-1 fastball to a fastball hitter and Chavez put it in the takeoff pattern. Really, the only mistake and the only time he really got away from his gameplan.
Doofus(Goober and Gomer's Smart Brother)
June 20th, 20122:47 pm
OK, I’ve made my decision now, going over FG’s empty head. It will be Durbin for the next two innings and then Kimbrel for the last two to secure the win. No ifs, ands, or buts! Somebody pass that on to Mr. G please!
have we said extend Bourn yet today>?
he raises his game with the quality of opponents
yuck. I just can’t live in that kind of heat But yeah, we get the marine layer, especially this time of year- has been very foggy in the mornings and later evenings lately
I’m gonna miss Chipper’s side-of-the-mouth “Good Ol’ JR” talking. When the heck did he start doing that?
June 20th, 20122:48 pm
Brooklyn Braves Brawler
Just don’t see Bourn getting signed by the Bravos even though it would be the right thing to do. They will go second tier and get Coco Crisp or swing a trade for Lorenzo Cain in KC
Hey cabravesfan — I work 7 minutes from the house. Makes up for a great deal. No freeways. No traffic.
“CM” the “IT FACTOR”=$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
June 20th, 20122:49 pm
McFann, you started Shaun on a one-person argument against using RBI to measure value. But I refuse to listen. I will continue to assign value to players by RBI, number of Strikeouts, and most importantly, Plate Appearances.
Joe Simpson disappointed Chipper not DH’ing today. Said its still like 2 off days in a row, with DH today and off day tomorrow.
We Got This Game in The BAG!
I wonder if they have a private sushi bar there? Swisher’s sushi is granderson but too much can expand your Jeter.
Me and Joe Simpson—we actually kind of agree on something. An historical day, folks! Mark your calendars…
If the “it factor” is a professional athletes paycheck. I would put my life on the fact that if Tommy is not in the majors, his gf would not give him a second of her time
That slider wasn’t very nasty.
For sure…although I still have you beat there
June 20th, 20122:50 pm
The Durbin signing is starting to look better and better. He’s been nails the last month or so! Agree?
Me and My Big Mouth…
Love Sutton’s explanation of Mikey’s catch – when he was a kid, most people don’t know this, Bourn was bitten by a radioactive spider. Ever since, he’s been able to climb the walls like that !
I work 7 minutes from the house. Makes up for a great deal. No freeways. No traffic.
No one likes a bragger.
June 20th, 20122:51 pm
And I just saw the replay of Bournes catcht . WOW! I love that he is in front of and above J Hey
And Chip said Chipper’s getting today off was “part of a plan” to get Chipper two days off. If it was the plan all along, why did Fredi say—Aaaaah, ferget it…
yeah, bed to couch to computer in less than a minute…
June 20th, 20122:52 pm
With those bunny rabbit slippers still on…
Not able to watch the game, but I’m assuming Rapada or Logan are coming in to face Freeman and Heyward….
BG4Life — Love it!
I work 7 minutes from the house.
ha..i’m working from home
June 20th, 20122:53 pm
Me? All but the Bunny slippers…Nala would eat my feet in seconds…
McFann — I get you! If it was always part of the ‘plan’ to sit him and give him two days off, then why even say he was going to DH him AT ALL??
“BBB” that’s why I said Durbin the next 2 innings and Kimbrel the last two. It would work but FG doesn’t have it in him to do that!
June 20th, 20122:54 pm
Wonder if Jason is thinking about that catch he didn’t take away in, was it Cincy? If Bourn with his short self can get to that, Jason should have been able to.
I know, cab, you’ll disagree with me on that. We were on opposing sides of that argument, but it’s all good now
Ya know, I admit I didn’t really like Durbin at the beginning of the season. But he’s grown on me and now I don’t mind him so much. He’s actually done a pretty good job!
June 20th, 20122:55 pm
Yes! Just bugs me—guess I can’t help it…
I’ll get over it, but not right now…
June 20th, 20122:56 pm
MikeInFl, why not? Isn’t it the way many want to do it? Assign value and judge players’ skills on the basis of picking out some random statistics, without regard to whether they are measuring things that lead to creating and preventing runs? Baseball isn’t about scoring more runs and preventing more runs than your opponent. It’s a beauty contest, about which players have the prettiest batting averages or RBI totals.
BG4Life — Jason is probably thinking of that catch…but likely the reason Bourn can get up so much higher to make that catch is that there is so much less of him to get off the ground than Jason.
I believed Durbin worked last night and he may not want to overwork him.
Right now Durbin and Medlen are his only dependable RH middle relievers. I think he scared to death to put CMart in there but may have to if we get another run or two.
June 20th, 20122:57 pm
Another strike out presented by McDonald’s.
McFann — Understood. Just wanted you to know I thought the same. Frustrating, isn’t it?
June 20th, 20122:58 pm
The Braves are making straight A’s today….on the game summary!
For those who missed some or all of today’s game, SportSouth will show it again tonight at 7PM and 11PM. I plan to watch it again just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
BBB you are talking about Fredi G. that is more than enough reason for him to run Durbs out there again today
June 20th, 20122:59 pm
Yo, Shaun, dude, get out of the way of the TV…we are trying to watch a baseball game.
MikeInFl, why not? Isn’t it the way many want to do it?
No Shaun, I don’t think that’s how “many want to do it.” One guy, who is upset that Dan Uggla is not as good a hitter as Joey Votto, uses batting average as a measure. Okay, he’s unenlightened. Probably doesn’t spend 6 hours a day studying baseball.
But really, I think it’s safe to say that the vast majority of us here fully understand that rbi are context dependent. But you keep lecturing. I don’t mind. It’s just kind of bizarre.
June 20th, 20123:00 pm
Ugh! Of course….
Ugghhhh WTH happened There?
saw the douchebag fan yelling at heyward there?
Need to be proactive concerning the bullpen.
Let’s get someone throwing.
June 20th, 20123:01 pm
Time to get someone ready.
So, is Freddy going to blow another one for us?
Okay, time to get Tommy outta there. This game’s getting too close.
OMG!!! Time to go, Hanson.
6-4 with 8 homers today.
Fredi…You still in the dugout?? Might want to pick up the phone.
come on Hanson – stay strong and keep it in the ball park.
Just get through this inning, yikes.
Had a feeling this game wasn’t over yet. Is it too early to bring Kimbrel in? Hasn’t pitched much lately!
June 20th, 20123:02 pm
Big Red Just Got SLAPPED
We Bet Not Blow This!
I would say his day is over.
Who is coming in?
That’s four homers for Braves and four for Yankees today, and it’s only 6th inning. Braves lead cut to 6-4. Hanson replaced by Venters.
Break my heart….no, please
I’m sure many think Fredi should’ve taken him out earlier!!
Hanson has given up 14 home runs in 86.1 IP this year.
June 20th, 20123:03 pm
Yep, “cricket” that lady was yelling and pointing her finger at Heyward. She should have been the one that got hit in the face with the ball earlier!
Still don’t need to trade for a starting pitcher?
I think, the way the ball is flying out today, it is safe to say this isn’t the final score.
One way or the other.
June 20th, 20123:04 pm
I know we have a Fredi and a Freddie. Who is this Freddy guy??
The Yankees are a snake. You must kill them.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
