jeffrey d – My Wife worked at the Amdissions (and later Law Admissions) offices while we were there and we managed to get season tickets for Herschel’s tenure (and beyond) at UGA – was at every game he played between the hedges.

What was also cool was all the future greats they played at UGA during that time – Willie Gault, The Fridge, George Roger, MIke Singletary, Steve Young, Bo Jackson – got to see all of them, too.

I don’t think any team is having a tougher season than the Rockies, who came into this year with some high expectations. Colorado has pitched terribly, and on Wednesday, the Rockies suffered a gut-wrenching loss and learned that shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is going to be out a long time.

High expectations? With what starting rotation? O’Dowd needs to be fired, as does Tracy. Reorganize that entire team from 3-25 – keeping Tulo and CarGo and that’s it. Even Dexter Fowler must go – selling high on him may be a good idea.

I wouldn’t mind picking up a veteran starter IF we could get one that was signed for next year and if we didn’t have to give away the farm (or what’s left of it) to get them.

Sooner or later, if you’re going to cont on these kids as heavily as we all think they’re going to, then they’re going to have to let them pitch, take their lumps and become who they’re going to be.

We’ve seen some inconsistency from MInor and Delgado, which is to be expected. The same will be said for Teheran and GImartin before all is said and done. Maybe they need to pitch.

Its obvious that Teheran is not ready for the big leagues this season. After this full year at Gwinnett I believe he will make the rotation out of spring training next year, but he needs this full season at Gwinnett to prove that he has the control and command to take the ball past the 5th inning, which he has yet to show at Gwinnett or the big leagues yet. Futhermore, this means that a starter will be acquired by Wren if he truly is serious about making a run into the playoffs.

And the FO might fully agree with you, I don’t know. But I do think it’s often a mistake to evaluate a prospect on results rather than ability, especially a pitcher going through a level for the second time. Teheran went down with specific instructions about his areas of weakness, and the work you put in to strengthen those often has little to do with how you might pitch in a game that counts. I don’t know if that’s the case or not, obviously, because I don’t see him pitch every time out. I’m just pointing out that there may be reasons for his stats unrelated to his actual pitching ability.

Good morning all, whew… it’s hot!!!! Richbraves I hope you are staying inside today.

Yesterday’s game shows you how a potent offense can cover up a not so sharp pitching effort. Anyone else remember how the Braves nation was ready to throw Minor under the bus for giving up 4 homers in Cinncy? Nice to see Jason finally break out however. I’m sure the Yankees’ brass have put J-Hey’s performance in their memory bank for when he hits free agency. No doubt, money will not be an obstacle in their pursuits.

Funny that the Rockies should need pitching, especially after trading away Urbaldo last season.

So, does anyone else think the blog will explode when Jurjjens give up a long ball or two Friday night? I’m thinking if he can just get the BoSox to hit the ball on the ground, he will be alright. Fenway has got to be one of the worse ballparks in which to watch a game in all of sports.

it is funny how ballclubs whine and cry about needing new ballparks and yet, the two oldest are the most revered.

Lew The thing that bothers me is the Braves, as an organization, seem reluctant to allow a pitcher to throw much more than 100 pitches a game at any level.

After a while we see a pattern of guys not going beyond 5 to 6 innings in every game. Perhaps it is the feeling by the club that they do not have enough offense to allow a pitcher to work out of a jam.

I get the feeling that the Braves starters are constantly looking into the dugout just as soon as they face a little adversity. You do not train for a marathon by running wind sprints.

Ease Workman comp rules vary from state to state. I am not sure how they are in Georgia but Beachy will not suffer any loss of pay while on the DL due to a work related injury, this is part of the MLB agreement with the Player’s Union.

Workman comp is really insurance for companies against frivolous lawsuits as it sets the amount of compensation due to a person as a result of a specific injury.

Lew

Gil – Maybe they’re looking into the dugout to see if Fredi is ready to pulll an early trigger like he usually does. There are many times I’d like to see the pitchers work out of a jam and not see Fredi walking to the mound to rescue them – would even have liked him leaving Teheran in there to get the couyple outs he needed.

It’s the only way they’ll learn – just look at the difference in MInor’s results since Fredi’s left him in the last coupe of times to work things out – and he did (at the very least) mitigate the damage when given the opportunity.

It’s all part of the learning process to me and is something they NEED to learn – the sooner, the better. The true test of a good or great pitcher is NOT getting into trouble, but getting out of it with the fewest runs allowed.

I don’t think the Braves would take that chance in the heat of a playoff race. If they were already out of contention, sure bring him up and see what he can do. But with the rotation already in shambles, we need a proven guy who has had major league success to settle in and anchor this staff. You may be right about them not wanting to take the chance in a playoff race, but I would still do it. Garza has a career ERA of 3.85. I’m just not sure if that is worth the price it is going to be. If he were a guy that had that same ERA and went deeper in games (6.1 IP for his Career and 5.9 IP for 2012) then I may side with you on this. But the fact is that he doesn’t go very deep in games and if we go get someone we need someone that can take us deep into ballgames.

The braves would if they weren’t in playoff contention…

Yet they have Minor and JJ in the rotation!! Unless they plan on getting 2 SP in trades they’ll still be throwing Minor or JJ every 5th day. Not sure how big if any of a drop off Teheran would be from them.

you wouldn’t be in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn is actually really nice now. Very nice areas. Great park. Lots of families now.

a long reliever type might be much easier and cheaper

Bring back Livan!

And he shall be Livan
And he shall be a good man
And he shall be Livan
In tradition with the family plan
And he shall be Livan
And he shall be a good man
He shall be Livan

Duke-

With his 6.1 IP for his career, he would lead our staff as far as the starter who pitches the deepest into games.
