No – I just caught the Braves highlights on ESPN since I did not see the game…
When I was a lad we’d get up in the middle of the night half an hour before we went to bed, eat broken glass for breakfast, and go out into the 172 degree weather and clean the stripe down the middle of the road with our tongues… — Venice Jim
Does anyone else see what’s wrong with this post?
I mean, the guy is having breakfast BEFORE he goes to bed. That’s messed up!

Well, I tell you what is freaky — it’s watching a kid who lived down the block, who was at your house all the time when he was little, in a game being announced by Vin Scully and pitching an 8-inning masterpiece thus far against the Dodgers.
Tommy Milone was a throw-in on the Gio Gonzalez deal, and of the 4 Nats sent to Oakland — he’s the only one up — and he’s building himself quite an MLB resume thus far. Very freaky to watch him facing guys like Ichiro, Pujols etc…. But Beane wanted him to seal the deal and he’s really proving himself.

Riverside Calif is a hot ol’ place
Funny sketch, VJ. It reminds me of an “All in the Family” sketch, where 2 burglars break into the Bunker house and keep the family hostage in their house until the cops, who are looking for them, leave the neighborhood. While they are waiting, the 2 burglars get into a hilarious routine about who was poorer, growing up.
A Bomb – looked impressive in the 9th inning, that’s for sure…

Doesn’t throw above 87 — but quite a difference on the change up.
Drafted in the 10th round out of USC I think 4-5 years ago. Had to earn his way all the way through the Washington system — came up last season and homered against the Mets.
Then traded to the A’s in the offseason — best spot for him because of vast expanses of the Oakland Coliseum. Contact pitcher.

WASHINGTON — Davey Johnson says Joe Maddon should “read the rulebook.” Maddon says the rulebook shouldn’t always rule in the “self-policing” world of major league baseball — and that if anyone was cheating, it was Johnson.
The managers of the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays weren’t exactly playing kiss-and-make-up Wednesday in baseball’s latest spat: Johnson’s decision to challenge Tampa Bay reliever Joel Peralta’s glove in Washington’s 5-4 loss the night before.
The umpires found pine tar on Peralta’s glove. He was ejected from the game and expects a suspension of up to 10 days from Major League Baseball. The league office said it was investigating the incident and that no decision would be announced Wednesday.
Maddon was furious after the game, calling Johnson’s actions “cowardly,” “bush” and “bogus.” Johnson knew about the pine tar because had inside information on Peralta, who pitched for the Nationals in 2010.
Johnson responded to Maddon before Wednesday’s game, and Maddon then responded to Johnson. Some of the words used would not appear on most Christmas cards.
Johnson: “Any time there’s a rule violation, as far as I’m concerned, it’s just a rule violation. My only comment to him is read the rulebook. It’s simple.”
June 21st, 201212:42 am
The Johnson/Maddon fight seems like something you’d expect to see here.
June 21st, 201212:44 am
Maddon would’ve done the same thing – hypercompetitive guy.
June 21st, 20121:14 am
I am on Maddon’s side…..He is a Bucs fan! And Tampa is a weird place with lots of weirdos….he gets the nod.

Hello everyone! I would get Garza from the Cubs. I woud give up Teharan for Garza. That’s just me though.
June 21st, 20121:43 am
Also, glad the Braves won . I was getting a lot nervous. I never thought they would win 2 out of 3 in New York.

June 21st, 20122:54 am
Glad to see Medlen back in bull – pen. The bull – pen wasn’t the same with out him. That turned out to be a bad idea, letting him go down to the minors, and trying to turn him into a starter. I was one that thought it was a good idea, but now glad he’s back in bull pen.

All, have a good one! Amazing what a win can do. I love winning. It’s so much better than losing. Talk Friday some time, and Peace my friends…….”Go!!!!!Braves!!!!!”
June 21st, 20123:17 am
Heyward’s second homer was off the outside of the plate. so much for needing to move in
June 21st, 20124:43 am
Teheran for Garza? that’s crazy talk, a 21 year old kid who will have his full 5 years of control for a slightly above average pitcher who will cost $9 + mill next year (as well as the pro rated $$ this year)
Ward, you are truly eating the fruit from the ground and not the tree
June 21st, 20125:53 am
Check out the size of the rat I saw in the NYC subway last night.

Hey, count small blessings. Glad to see Heyward’s offense is on the upswing.
June 21st, 20126:55 am
Any truth to the Braves being interested in Jason Vargas? What is the cost?
June 21st, 20127:43 am
One hundred billion dollars
June 21st, 20127:49 am
It’s 2012…that kind of money doesn’t exist in this future….

June 21st, 20127:54 am
oh wow…I’m just seeing Bourn’s catch. That was something
June 21st, 20127:59 am
Thing about that catch is Heyward is standing behind him and would not been required to jump.

Huge, I Mean Huge Series Win In The Rotten Apple, Now Its on for the showdown in The Fens
We Showed Those Stoopid Yankees a Thing or two in how we can Slug it out with the Big Boys
A sidenote is that Big Red is getting killed on the Longballs, Is that a cause for concern?
At least unlike some previous nucklehead CF we’ve had, Bourn had the good sense not to run into Jason…

Hard to believe that Jordan Schafer was patrolling CF a year ago…
Love the series in England! Send a Statement to those bloody Englanders!
June 21st, 20128:10 am
Heyward is 18-for-50 (.360) with 10 extra-base hits (four homers), nine RBIs and a 1.136 OPS in his past 14 games, including 10-for-25 (.400) with six extra-base hits during a seven-game hitting streak.
June 21st, 20128:16 am
Tomahawkin, I just have a good feeling about JJ…. I think he will turn it around!!

Jason Heyward is now one of 20 National League position players who are over 2.0 WAR this season according to baseball-reference. It attempts to combine hitting, defense and baserunning into a single value relative to strength of the player’s defensive position. That means that, at least according to this statistic, Heyward has been one of the 20 most valuable position players in the NL.
The Braves are the only team with four players in the top 20:
3. Bourn, 3.5
9. Prado, 2.7
17. Heyward, 2.1
19. Uggla, 2.1
June 21st, 20128:21 am
Fangraph’s WAR tells an even better story:
4. Bourn, 3.7
6. Prado, 3.1
12. Heyward, 2.6
16. Uggla, 2.5
I saw that JHey had a two homer game and that JJ was called up and Redmond sent down…. think it was on Twitter…..
June 21st, 20128:23 am
Heyward still needs a little work hitting lefties, though. You think?

Yes, Its a Statement Series against The Chowder-Heads
Braves have NOT played well at Fenway Park…
1999 Pedro Martinez struck out a career high, in a Masterpiece, he made Brian Jordan, Bret Boone, and Chipper look like Chumps, he was Dominating
2009 Chipper and one of our relievers got Tossed from a game by Pornstar Bill Hohn
June 21st, 20128:31 am
It seems like for several years the Braves have had a solid infield, but a relatively weak outfield. It’s different this year. According to Fangraphs WAR, the Braves have the most valuable CF, and the second-most valuable LF and RF in the NL this year.
June 21st, 20128:33 am
I think I’ll hold my breath at least through the fifth inning until we actually see Jurrjens performing at any decent level. I hope he’s back to normal, but nothing he’s done at AAA convnces me that he is.
June 21st, 20128:37 am
Not To Mention Red Sox/Patriot Fans are As Obnoxious as Yankee Fans…
They are So Lucky they Have like 7 Championships since 2000, we in The “A” have Cero
June 21st, 20128:38 am
Might be interesting to see his splits for June. Frankly, he wasn’t hitting much of anything in May, and that might be bearing down on his lefty splits, too.
June 21st, 20128:39 am
Most lefty hitters struggle against LHP. Only the very elite hit them very well.

Yeah, but there’s “struggle” and then there’s “feeble”. One is a reasonable expectation, the other makes you throw beer cans at the TV.

June 21st, 20128:57 am
Lew – at least the Bulldogs won a championship – though that seems like Sherman was around for that too. It has been so long ago.
June 21st, 20128:58 am
Joey Votto is hitting .383/.500/.710 vs. RHP pitching this year……..

June 21st, 20129:07 am
Were you a student then, Lew?
June 21st, 20129:11 am
Great at bat against the lefty for Heyward and we need to see more of that since he’s been brutal against southpaws for 1 1/2 yrs. Reality is if Bourn isn’t signed, we need a RH batter out in CF. Freeman will get better against lefthanders but has been poor this season. Mac has a very low .OBP against them. People were clamming for Francisco to play 3rd early on? Last thing we need is another lefthander in the lineup next season.
June 21st, 20129:14 am
We’ve had a lot of off days lately. Another one on Monday. Guess it’s for the best, it’s friggin hot out here today. 100 degrees in CT.
June 21st, 20129:16 am
That’s cuz most UGA fans can’t count!!
If they didn’t trade a solid relief prospect in J.J. Hoover, they may have already cut Juan loose. He’s been pretty terrible. I think they’ll give him until July and if he doesn’t show anything, acquire a bat to replace him. Don’t think any team would claim the guy off waivers, even if he is young.
June 21st, 20129:17 am
Well we can count to 1….
June 21st, 20129:18 am

I believe the team is hitting lefties almost as well as righties, this year.

Sean Gilmartin has a 1/31 BB/K ratio vs. LHB’s this season down in Double-A Mississippi. 28 IP, 16 hits allowed.
June 21st, 20129:27 am
Lew, it’s insane. 100 degrees and I couldn’t stand being outside while pumping gas this morning on my way to work.
Maybe FW should look to Tampa for trade possibilities and bench help. Love to see either Keppinger or Zobrist on this team. Keppinger can play anywhere on the infield and Zobrist both infield and outfield. His avg is poor but high .OBP and has some pop to his bat. Keppinger on rehab assignment and should be back soon. They have some depth in that area especially when Longoria gets back.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
