I agree, free Julio…Guy has nothing left to proof in the minors, just needs to prove that he belongs with the big club. Wren has been hoarding him for two seasons now. And for what? It’s his time..

Scherzer is something else.

That guy…you watch him and wonder how anybody can get fair wood on a ball, and then you notice his WHIP is one-and-a-half. Just doesn’t figure.

Unless JJ has a resurrection, I guess the question becomes is it better or easier to acquire a reliable reliever and move Medlen to the rotation or to acquire a reliable starter and keep Medlen in the pen.

I wonder if the prosecutors would have been as compassionate towards me, and my addictions. Surely after they caught up to me on my new (new to me but used, no sense it being stupid) 34 foot sportfisher with a bunch of naked girls, their first concern would have been my mental wellbeing right.

Hell that guy might as well sue the bank. Bunch a bastids

Big fan of his. There is a guy that most everyone thought was going to be a reliever because of how violent his delivery was on his elbow. Just nasty stuff.

Joe Saunders would be a rather interesting option as long as he didn’t come attached to a high expectation on prospects required in a trade. If we could do something like that, we could then look at possibly moving Minor in some type of trade for Willingham or some sort of combination to possibly acquire Wil Myers.

“I promise you one thing,” Maddon said, “you’re going to see brand-new gloves throughout the major leagues starting tomorrow, with pitchers on every major league ball club.”

I’m not able to watch the game today but it will be interesting to see if any Braves or Yankees pitchers are sporting shiny new gloves.

Mark Bowman:

If Jurrjens struggles like he did while posting a 9.37 ERA before being demoted to Triple-A Gwinnett in late April, the Braves will have even more reason to aggressively pursue Ryan Dempster or any of the other attractive starting pitchers that might be available on the trade market.

To fit Dempster or another of these pitchers within the constraints of this year’s payroll, the Braves will need to be creative. With Chipper Jones and now Indians pitcher Derek Lowe both coming off of their payroll next year, the Braves will have some money to play with on the free-agent market this winter.

But still uncomfortable by the results of the 2009 offseason, when they acquired Lowe and Kenshin Kawakami on the free-agent market, the Braves might use some of the money budgeted for the future to address their needs on this year’s trade market.

Wren said Beachy is last patient that Dr. Andrews will see today. And they’re in Pensacola, Central Time Zone. If Chip can’t go, they should really consider doing the fans a favor, rest him on the first game of the series not the last. This is typically when each team honors Chipper Jones, fans all across the country appreciate what he’s accomplished over the years. I’d like to see him play in these games and not just run out of a dugout to tip his cap. They aren’t honoring his retirement, they are honoring his last professional season…which he is still playing in…so play.

In other words, I highly doubt it was Fredi saying ‘Gosh, I just don’t think Chipper should play today. Let’s get Francisco some ABs.”

Murph

I still think the team should go get Willingham, then create a schedule, much like if the guys worked at McDonalds, that consistently rotates Chipper and Prado at third, giving Willingham lots of playing time in left.

Chipper should plan on playing every other game from now until the end of the season. That’ll keep him fresh and guys can mentally plan on playing time. I know, according to Shaun they are all professionals and should be ready to hit triples at a moment’s notice, but I bet they’d all benefit knowing that, ok, Chipper played yesterday, so today I’m at third. Then tomorrow, back in left.

speaking of free agent staring pitchers, there is a guy who will probably be overlooked in an offseason with a crazy amount of pitchers, both starters and relievers…but anibal sanchez is just 29, and will be a free agent. i think hes a better pitcher than he gets credit for. if the braves want to solidify or bulk up the rotation, they could do worse. he has the right amount of experience without being to old, and wont be one of the higher paid pitchers in the offseason, id imagine.

Beachy will be out most of the year and Jurrjens will mostly likely be gone one way or another. Braves could package Mike Minor for Chase Headly to play 3rd, and sign Sanchez to be their 4th starter, with Medlen and Redman for depth.
