Thanks David …. appreciate what you do …
Fredi is a joke
June 18th, 201211:19 pm
blah blah blah. Postgame quotes: Fredi, “I quit” woooohoooo!
June 18th, 201211:21 pm
It’s only been a few weeks, really, since we were talking about the Braves having their “swagger” back. Heck, their pitchers wet themselves every time the other team scores one run–they know they’ve lost. This is a sad, sad bunch now–ever since Jonny threw the grand slam gopher ball to A-Rod that effectively ended the Brave’s season.
Fredi Will Screw It Up Somehow
June 18th, 201211:22 pm
KEEP RUNNING HIM OUT THERE he says.
June 18th, 201211:23 pm
“You had good outing against Yankees last week, tough to face again so soon?”
same could be said for CC, he faced the Braves just a few games ago as well. Unfortunately both pitchers had completely different results from the first time around to this time. Minor good then bad, CC bad then good (CC should have taken the loss that game but well … we get to thank Venters for that one)
June 18th, 201211:24 pm
Fire Fredi put him out of our misery…it hurts to see
our favorite team look so lifeless
June 18th, 201211:27 pm
i have defended FG long enough…he has no b*lls, has an excuse for everything. Funny if I was not getting my employees to produce at work my boss would fire me, he would not be interested in excuses….What is wrong with this organization???
June 18th, 201211:30 pm
Braves hitters had the same situation as Yankees, seeing the same pitcher within a week. Of course the result wasn’t the same. We’ve got veterans not swinging the bat, young pitchers who can only talk about “learning experiences,” and an uninspiring manager. Mark said it best the other day: this team is in deep trouble.
June 18th, 201211:32 pm
I really don’t understand, why we keep taking so long to get a pitcher who shows he does’t have it anymore, out of the game. Just like venters showed the other day, noooooo we left him in and what did we get? A grandslam. Very frustrating to watch the braves play right now. The only good this for me is Simmons at ss.
June 18th, 201211:40 pm
Remember when this team used to steal
bases!?!? Oh yea that was when we were winning. Guess Bourn told Fredi he no longer wants to run, that would be my only explanation!
June 18th, 201211:41 pm
Until that man gets fired, i’m never entering the turner field gates again. I’m content with traveling an extra 45 minutes to watch our Low-A ball team. And for those people who vie for terry francona as manager, you will be equally as disappointed. Sadly, there is a strong lack of MLB capable managers nowadays
Can Of Corn
June 18th, 201211:45 pm
I’m amazed at the utter depth and discernment of Fredi’s answers.
Fredi on his solution for Minor’s ills: “He’s got some stuff that he’ll work on, and keep running him out there.”
I’m so glad to hear Fredi’s explanation that Mark needs to work on “SOME STUFF.” What insight!
And I’m so glad that Fredi didn’t get too technical for me. It’s good that he’s keeping the cookie jar on the bottom shelf, so to speak.
Working on “stuff” and “running him out there” keeps it simple.
Kind of like Fredi.
June 18th, 201211:51 pm
I have adopted a cant lose approach when watching my Braves in order to keep from throwing things at the TV. If we win, then great. If we lose, we are hopefully closer to firing Freddie G.
June 19th, 201212:06 am
Just put Bobby back in the dugout. I bet he is sitting around. Watching. Waiting.
June 19th, 201212:12 am
Turn out the lights the party is over on this season.
June 19th, 201212:17 am
Fire sale start with McCann and Uggla.
June 19th, 201212:20 am
I tip my cap to you
June 19th, 201212:22 am
sometimes ya just gotta tip your hat to CC and the boys
June 19th, 201212:28 am
Worst team and worst manager the Braves have put out there in 20 years. You know Chipper is going bad when Diaz hits ahead of him. Bad. Bad. Bad.
We badly need Constanza up to add some speed and desire. And, Mejia up for DH and 1B against righties. And, wouldn’t hurt to have anyone up for Wilson. Bad bench.
Francisco probably plays 3B tomorrow night. Woohoo.
June 19th, 201212:29 am

June 19th, 201212:32 am
Cheap Owners = Threadbare roster
At least they didn’t wait until September to fall apart this year
27% of the payroll tied up in D Lowe and C Jones’ farewell tour
June 19th, 201212:33 am
Even South Car can’t win them all. Arkansas beats them tonight. One more win each and it will be an Arizona-Arkansas final.
Gators looked like the Braves tonight. Totally outplayed and outcoached.
FSU vs UCLA and Kent St vs S Car in the losers’ bracket while the Hogs and Arizona both watch, unbeaten.
Let’s go after Youkilis. The Red Sox are desperate to get rid of him and would send him along with cash for future considerations.
He’s having an off year so far but could definitely use a change of scenery. With how often Chipper is out of the lineup and Freeman’s issues he would definitely find his way into the lineup.
June 19th, 201212:35 am
Good god, when MW gave up the fateful homer in ‘96 I really didn’t think we would lose the next 256 games to the Yankees (seems like 256).
Just not competitive
June 19th, 201212:37 am
Make that Mejia up against lefties.
Believe Fredi and Wren must have both ridden the short bus while in school. We couldn’t do worse with the Clusters running this damn team.
June 19th, 20121:18 am
THE SEASON IT’S NOT OVER YET….. the braves still have 3 1/2 months for comeback and win a playoff spot …. yes Beachy was the MLB era leader for 2 months or something but with this offense he only won 5 games and lost other 5 … soooo …
WE NEED ANOTHER BAT AND ONE OR MAYBE TWO RELIEVERS
Sure Jurrjens or Medlen or whatever who gonna take the spot in braves rotation for Beachy could win the games ONLY with OTHER BAT AND OTHER GOOD ARM IN THE PEN….
so MR WREN MOVE THE LAZY ASS AND LOOK FOR HELP IN THE TRADE MARKET
June 19th, 20121:23 am
Need prado to be team captian!!!!!!!
June 19th, 20121:25 am
I think we need one more relief arm and a Jack Cust type of left handed bench bat and we would be okay. I also wouldn’t mind Francona in the dugout, but since JS allowed Bobby to handpick Fredi, I can’t see him admitting his error anytime soon.
People complain about wren, but don’t forget it was JS who made the terrible Tex deal…..

Its time for Fredi G needs to go and quick. Was watching game in fifth ining when David Ross came up with runners on firs and second and nobody out,and I was thinking slowest man on team neds to bunt so he want hit into double play. And also would have put two runners in scoring position with one out for Borne.Well he didnt hit into doubl play but he struck out, then Bourne comes up and gets a hit instead of 3-0 its 2-0 because Fredi G didnt bunt the runners over. Its been like that all year and after the collapse last year we need to go in anher direction and soon.
June 19th, 20123:56 am
ory about bad spelling my kids spilled something on keyboard tonight all buttons not working to good
June 19th, 20124:09 am
Its really hard to be Atlanta sport fan Hawks stink Falcahns cant in a playoff game and Braves stink now too.I know we 15 straight divison titles staring in 1990 or1991 but only 1 World Series with that pitching staff we had.
June 19th, 20124:14 am
sacrifice bunts by anyone other than the pitcher is usually not a good move (except in late/close situations where one run is needed to tie or win) losing the out tends to mitigate the base gained. Of course any one given result can make it seem like a good or bad idea . But long term, using sac bunts as an offensive strategy is a losing formula.
June 19th, 20124:35 am
Red Sox are shopping Kevin Youkilis. Send Juan Francisco and Jair Jurrjens to Boston for Youk and Daniel Bard.
Hell, we could even 1-up that deal and add McCann and Salty to the trade…..would free up some money, then the Braves could trade for an impact starter to replace Beachy in the rotation…
June 19th, 20126:37 am
its time for the Frank & Fredi show to exit Atlanta.
Promote Chipper to player-manager to stimulate some fan interest at least to the end of this season. Can’t be any worse
June 19th, 20126:59 am
The kind of inane comments that support many of the fan base are clueless:
1.”Terrible medical staff”-as if they had anything to do with the injures on the field.
2.Ross to bunt with men on first and second and no one out.
June 19th, 20127:02 am
Schuerholz continues to praise McDowell – Any fool that thinks McDowell is a pitching coach needs to change his ‘ MEDICATION’
June 19th, 20127:08 am
The AJC should really stop publishing this column. Of what use is it? What additional information can one derive from such? When they win, they say they feel good and tip their hats to themselves. Who’d a suspected? When they lose – which they do way too often – they boo-hoo and tip their hats to the better clubs.
Of course, it does provide a platform for some more ads and inane videos selling crap no one would buy, the pockets of the AJC get a bit more full enabling them to pay writers to records comment and then regurgitate them back at us – so we’re reading the spew from the players, through a writer and to us. Ugh! And this is writing? Furman, can you see this from your vantage point? I hope not.
June 19th, 20127:13 am
Hit, run, catch and outscore the opposition. Very simple concept. Quit over-thinking. React. Play ball. Win, then drink a few beers and come back and do it the next day. Simple…
June 19th, 20127:20 am
How about a “hat tipping” bobble head doll?
And this one time at "braves camp".......
June 19th, 20127:21 am
I am wondering what your opinion is on this season so far, have you seen a braves season when a team has been so up and then so down and have gone on losing and winning streaks so often. Its been a very frustrating year due to that, the team seems to have so much potential yet we then struggle, what can we do?
June 19th, 20127:31 am
You just have to tip your hat to those Yankees. We’ve lost four in a row to them and probably five after tonight.
Beachy out for season

June 19th, 20127:54 am
Either Freddi or Roger should have walked out and calmed him down after he gave up the first base hit. Mike seemed to have lost his pace and concentration after the base hit, he began working faster than he had all night. Maybe instead of just running him out there and leaving him Fredi and Roger might want to try a little “in game” coaching. Our pitchers are young and need that extra help during games.
June 19th, 20127:58 am
Headline should read about beachy that Dr. James Andrews RESIDENT willl do surgery.
Anyway, watching heyward and jones against cc was pitiful, clearly this team lacks talent to compete at a playoff level….
June 19th, 20128:21 am
Here are the real Braves…getting their buts kicked by real (actually competitive) teams. The Braves are in third place thanks to being in a really lame division. HA!
June 19th, 20128:28 am
Here are a few reason on why Fredi Gonzalez is a horrible horrible manager.
1. Minor was cruising until the 5th, when he gave up a hit, then a wild pitch, then a walk, then gave up the double to Martin, then with the bases loaded, 2 run single to Jeter. But did Fredi or Roger even think to walk out to the mound and talk to the kid?? No, they sat on their behinds and watched the kid look like he was losing his confidence.
2. Last week when Minor threw 7 and a third scoreless innings, who was his catcher, McCann!!!! This week he goes with Ross???? Keep it consistent!!!!!!!! Then not only is Ross catching, and McCann is DH’ing, but Diaz, the emergency catcher, is in the lineup as well. What a pathetic excuse for a manager.
Fredi needs to be gone and soon, only unfortunate thing is that Frank Wren doesnt have the guts to fire him.
64 year Braves fan
June 19th, 20128:35 am
Does Fredi G. have the gonads to sit Chipper (0 for 4) Jones on the bench ? Bring up Costanza for
l.f. and put Prado back to 3rd base PERMANENTLY. Fredi’s “farewell tour” has already begun.
June 19th, 20128:39 am
Last night was the pits. Poor Minor ws drowning on the mound and not one went out to talk to him. Freddie and McDowell just sat on their sorry behind and let their young pitcher drown. And then put him back in in the next inning unbelievable. Even the ESPN announcers couldn’t believe that not one of them went out to calm Minor down. The Braves owners seriously need to lose these two losers (Fredi and McDowell)
June 19th, 20128:46 am
Frank Wren you suck and so does your baseball knowledge. Your scouts are pathetic ans your assesment of talent is a joke. You traded for a fat slow 3rd basemaen that swings at everything and cant hit the broadside of a barn. You thought Pastonicky was better than Simmons, Wilson and Diaz could not play on a high school team alone enough the majors. Wren do your job and bring some damn talent to this team. You are such a loaf sitting uop there in your press box stairing over a pathetic team.
June 19th, 20128:52 am
Aren’t we really getting tired of hoping, and expecting anything out of this bunch of losers???? I include Freddi and Wren at the top of this list. I for one have now gotten over all of the good years and won’t be around to watch these keystone cops as I think I will start following the Reds or Washington, they seem to know what it takes to build a Good Solid Team.
June 19th, 20128:54 am
The Braves are an OK team, but fans need to realize…they can’t compete on the level of American East teams. They were built within a small budget for entertainment. They might make it into the wild card spot, but I doubt it now. If by now they still need Chipper in the lineup to win, then someone hasn’t been watching the store.
The Atlanta CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 19th, 20128:57 am
I told you when he was first mentioned as Cox’s anointed replacement…
I told you when he was hired (I then ended my 21 year season tickets
I told you time after time following his blunders as a manager all last season…
I told you prior to and during Spring Training…
I told you this season, even during their hot winning streak…
…that Fredi Gonzalez is nothing but an extension of the Cox brand of baseball of sitting and hoping for the big hit or homerun while leaning heavily upon great pitching to win the majority of 162 games to qualify for the postseason. Then, almost inevitably, getting out managed during one of the 5 or 7 game series thereafter–thus Cox’s horrific 1-16 (.063 winning %) playoff record in the last game (and series) of a postseason. That’s 16 of 17 chances that we watched the other team celebrate last on the pitcher’s mound.
Now will you listen?
Now hear my solutions:
1. Release Fredi Gonzalez by the All Star Break
2. Try anything and everything to hire Terry Francona whom with two Rings will bring instant credibility.
3. Try anything and everything to sign Borne long term…he is exactly what we need in every regard.
June 19th, 20129:03 am
@O.J. Even the NY anouncers were saying that. When it was clear Minor was in trouble, The NY broadcasters were saying “There hasnt been a Mound visit… Gonzalez will be coming out pretty soon…. I wonder if theyre going to go talk to the kid before this at bat… Noones come out to talk to the kid yet… Oh, here we go (when Ross, the catcher FINALLY went to the mound)” It was comical, they just left th kid out there with no advice or anything.

June 19th, 20129:06 am
4. Bring up Constanza, park him in left, bat him behind Borne every night. That’s two leadoff type guys to change the personality of this team to one contrary to Cox/Gonzalez…a team with a personality to MAKE things happen versus WAITING for things to happen.
5. Bat Prado 3rd every night.
6. Bat, when healthy, Freeman 4th every night against RHP, 5th agsint LHP.
7. Bat Uggla 4th against LHP, 5th agsint RHP.
8. Bat McCann 6th every night.
9. Bat Heyward 7th every night
10. Bat Simmons 8th every night.
11. Keep Chipper only for spot duty or DH…he’s completely out of shape, weak and lethargic…just nurse him until the end.
For the balance of this season turn this team into a scrappy, situational hitting team and be done with the current philosophy!
June 19th, 20129:15 am
Is Dan Uggla & his solo HRS worthy of the contract he is getting?
I’d rather have Omar Infante back on second.
Another brilliant move by Frank Wren.
June 19th, 20129:21 am
Keeping pitching staff on a pitch count really works, NOT!! Chipper is so retired, can’t the Braves management see it? Braves are developing the Hawks syndrome, an inability to judge and nurture talent. Something is very wrong in the Braves hierarchy and absentee corporate ownership is apparently blinded by whatever rationalizations they are being fed.

Remember a couple of months ago when there was a story about Derek Lowe and how great he was pitching and how the Braves could really use him?
The real Derek Lowe is now appearing for Cleveland. Lowe’s ERA at the end of April – 2.27 (4-1 record); end of May 3.25 (6-3); now 4.30 (7-5). I’m noticing a trend.
With Beachy now out for the year, I hope Wren give Teheran or Medlen a chance at the rotation (please send Minor down – he can’t get through a lineup twice).

The fact that McDowell nor Fredi came out to talk to Minor while experiencing a difficult inning in Yankees Stadium is unbelievable. Sutcliffe and Boone were shocked no one came out. There is something very wrong with this management team.
If called out I’m sure they will use the injury card. If the Braves resided in NY the media would be crucifying Fredi and Wren.
June 19th, 20129:47 am
Fredi is a JOKE
And we go,go,go, as fast as we can to last place. I told you and no one believed me. To make room for a washed up 3rd. They dismanttled a winning team. Enough said. The streak will continue on and on all the way to the bottom
June 19th, 20129:51 am
I am wondering what your opinion is on this season so far, have you seen a braves season when a team has been so up and then so down and have gone on losing and winning streaks so often. — And this one time…
No, I have not. Extremely erratic performance by this team, and it can’t all be excused away by injuries. All teams have injuries. Injuries definitely disrupted this team when it was going well, but they’ve shown no ability to overcome injuries, to make adjustments and have others pick up the slack when a key play goes down, etc. Great or even really good teams do. This team hasn’t.

Everything about the team is inconsistent. Born and Prado perhaps are the exceptions and we screw Prado by shuffling him around the diamond. (The boy can never make the all stars cause he has no position. He has no position because our prima dona is always partially hurt and the lineup and defense has to be completely revamped when he deigns to show up)
Even the regulars are inconsistent – Uggla, Haywood, Jones (in appearances). So there is no “team” – just a gaggle of players shuffling in and out each day wating to see what happens.
When we lose Born and Jones we will have 20+ million dollars extra. Maybe we can buy a leader. Someone who instills spirit and discipline.
June 19th, 201210:05 am
Trade McCann, Uggla, Minor for hitting prospects, Chipper please retire.
June 19th, 201210:07 am
I agree Ralph, but no other comment.
June 19th, 201210:10 am
Thanks, I need some moral support, it’s time to rebuild
June 19th, 201210:13 am
On a completely separate note. Does anyone else see the irony of Clemens being charged with lying to Congress? Can they charge Congress with lying to the public? I’m sure the jury felt that way too. Only took them 10 hours after 10 weeks of trial.
June 19th, 201210:20 am

June 19th, 201210:21 am
JD: You make an interesting point. I have more respect for my fellow Braves bloggers than almost any politician.
June 19th, 201210:22 am
If we could rebuild around Prado, Simmons, Freeman and Heyward, sigh Bourn to an extension and get rid of all the other high dollar players then we would have the cash available in the budget to sign a couple of high dollar free agents to plug the holes this winter. Keep our best pitching prospects and get rid of JJ and Minor.
The team is floundering and it doesn’t look like they are going to come out of it. In past years, we dreamed…oh tomorrow we will get better. I have been a supporter of Gonzales and have given him the benefit of the doubt but I think the time has come. We need someone who can fire up these guys. Someone with spunk. Someone who will argue with the ump and maybe get thrown out. Gonzales strolls out and talks calmly then goes back…all show. Atlanta, if you plan on kicking it and becoming a champion, a change is in order!!!

I totally agree with that, and in the process if you don’t want to fire Freddi G., then place him in the Disable List!!!!!
@Brave New World Does that include girlfriend- Samantha.
Hey Cub fans…do you still have the paper bags we can borrow??
June 19th, 201210:27 am
This as currently constructed is a 80 to 85 win team at best. The problem is this team needs some juice and energy. Constanza and Pastor should be playing.
Constanza hitting in the same lineup with Bourn adds speed which is something the Braves need. Pastornicky needs to be getting experience while Wilson needs to be included in a trade with Diaz.
This team is BORING and everybody can see that but Wren and FG. They stand around (when they do get on base) and wait for home runs to score.
Depleted pitching staff with no answer night in and night out.
Freeman is the second coming of B-Mac and his injuries.
Chipper is done.
Heyward is no better than Diaz.
And what is the bench players role?
Boy i cant wait for Chipper and Lowe’s money to come of the books!
June 19th, 201210:28 am
Yanks and O’s exposed two key weaknesses in the Braves. (1) The Braves need a consistent big bat in the middle of the order (just one). McCann, Uggla, Freeman, and Chipper aren’t getting the job done. (2) It’s good to have a stable of young starters but to win championships you need one or two veteran stoppers.
Unless you’re the Yankees or Red Sox you just can’t pay $25 million to two players who aren’t giving you 100+ RBIs or 17+ wins each. The fact that the Braves go long stretches with NO contribution from Chipper and Lowe is dragging the team down big time.
The season is still young. The AL East will move on, and thankfully the Yankees are beating up the Braves competition in the East, too. But to be a serious contender the Braves need that big bat in the middle of the order and a veteran stopper in the rotation. There’s $25 million or so committed to past indulgences which should be filling these needs in 2012.
June 19th, 201210:30 am
Pastor has 4 errors already at Gwinette!
June 19th, 201210:32 am
And to think we have 2 pitching coaches who, according to comments made last year when hired, are going to work one on one with the hitters. Wow…awesome…constant hitting and scoring!! What the heck happened? And while I’m at it, why does the coach have to stay glued to the same darn place in the dugout. Maybe a walk down the line, getting fired up and rallying the team. They all look like deadbeats just standing and sitting and waiting to go home. Come on Braves. be the exciting team you once were.
June 19th, 201210:34 am
TIME TO PUT CHIPPER ON THE BENCH. HE IS NOT EVEN HITTING HARD GROUNDERS. CHIPPER, YOU CAN NOT PULL EVERY PITCH.
Need to trade for another bat now. Get him from the other league. Never trade within your league unless there are no other options. Need big, good right handed hitter for left or right field. Also, need a really good power hitting third baseman. Hurry, hurry, hurry Frank before what you have to offer is no longer a desired player.
Maybe thats the problem, we have pitching coaches working with the hitters and hitting coaches working with the pitchers.
June 19th, 201210:35 am
Ralph – I think it was a great move bringing up Simmons at the time they did. He improves almost by the hour. What range and what an arm. How about some more changes???
June 19th, 201210:36 am
A division title, pennant and WS run are all right there for the easy taking.
June 19th, 201210:42 am
We just turned that corner where we can say “just wait til next year”.
June 19th, 201210:44 am
Tip your hat to the Yankees cause we are a slow old club !
The worse thing about Beachy going down is it assures Minor will be staying up.
June 19th, 201210:54 am
Agree with your direction — break up the team and rebuild, but with the specifices:
1) Ahmed is in high A a long step from the majors
2) Gattis had just moved up to AA before being hurt and needs more time to develop (in a new position)
3) Gilmartin seems to be nothing more than Minor Light — not really dominating in AA
4) Presumably if Wren were willing and able to trade Uggla and McCann he would get some better talent back that may be MLB ready
5) The Chipper long goodbye will continue all season (or until he gets hurt) and will prevent the needed chemistry change from occurring before next year. Chipper is so obviously playing out the string right now and is probably preoccupied with his personal issues.
6) Unfortunately, if the te4am is in rebuilding mode (as I think it should be), then you might as well add Bourn to the fire sale too — He is the one player that contending teams might actually want and could bring back the best return. There is no chance he returns here if the team is in the midst of rebuilding after this year.
7) I assume the house cleaning also includes the manager.
June 19th, 201210:56 am
I keep thinking 1991. We went into the All-Star week in last place and wound up first in the division. I know this isn’t the same team, but we aren’t in last at this point. May be by All-Star Break tho.

The Braves released veteran right-hander Livan Hernandez, according to the team’s website. Hernandez, who was designated for assignment last week, has said he intends to continue playing.
The Braves removed the 37-year-old from their roster on Friday after calling other teams about possible trade scenarios. Hernandez signed a Major League deal with the Braves in March, not long after the Astros released him. The Praver/Shapiro client posted a 4.94 ERA with 5.5 K/9 and 2.3 BB/9 in 31 innings out of the bullpen for Atlanta.
