The Braves sat first baseman Freddie Freeman on Wednesday night in hopes that with Thursday’s off day, he could see more significant improvement with his injured left finger.
Freeman injured the area between his left index finger and thumb a week ago in Miami, when he was hit by a Jose Reyes relay throw trying to break up a double play. He returned to the lineup on Saturday but has still been grimacing after swings.
After seeing him do that again Tuesday night against the Yankees, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez decided to give him some rest.
“It’s getting better,” Gonzalez said. “But hopefully these two days can get him really over the hump.”
