“Morning After” Facts:

1. Cory Gearrin is a high AAA pitcher. He proves time and again he’s not a major leaguer.

2. Brian McCann is on the downside of a good career. It’s time to look ahead.

3. Braves roster is clogged with players who could not make any other ML roster. Jack Wilson, Livan Hernandez and Juan Francisco should be replaced immediately with players who might actually improve someday.

4. Anyone who’s expecting this team to finish above .500 needs to look closely at the roster, and the rest of the schedule.

5. It’s great that Chipper can contribute a bloop single now and then on his farewell tour, but until Prado is the everyday 3rd baseman, and a decent hitting/fielding left fielder is found, we’re stuck.

6. Braves pitching is no longer elite. Oft-injured starters can’t go deep in games, and bullpen is Jekyll & Hyde. You never know what you’re getting.

7. Fredi is without question, one of the worst in-game managers in MLB. He’s outfoxed nightly.

8. The scoreboard operator should go ahead and put 0-2 up everytime Freeman comes to bat.

9. Heyward is not a platoon player. Start him every night, or shop him to someone who will.

10. Any runs that Uggla drives in, are usually erased by the balls that scoot by him into RF.

And Fredi, Wren & the rest of the “brain trust” should be thankful that the AJC tosses softballs each post-game. The NY/Philly media would be relentless if their management was this inept.

I don’t get people that say “it’s just one game”

Because the team that won the World Series last year won 56% of their games. That’s 90 games since you would have trouble figuring that out on your own. That also means the World Series Champion lost 72 games last year.

Losing a game or three is not the end of the season and or a reason to act like an idiot.

Over his last 5 innings pitched Livan has given up 9 ER, 3 HR, 2 walks, and recorded but one K.

He wasn’t used from May 27th to June 10th.

Every now and then the wife and I will go through our garage, our closets, etc and do a little spring cleaning. My theory is, if I haven’t used something in a long time, I don’t really need it, and I get rid of it. I’d rather donate stuff to Goodwill than have it take up space while collecting dust.

If the Braves are only going to use Livan every 7-10 days and he can’t be trusted to come in and get outs to keep the team in a game, then why is he kept around? I get that he’s got experience, but he’s also got a 62 mph curveball and a 78 mph fastball that, lately, have been getting hit all over the ballpark.

Dump Livan, move Medlen pack to the ‘pen, and just move forward.

I see we are back to being a AAAA team after reading above – full of people no one else wants and full of people on the downside of their career.

Last night exposed weaknesses in the bullpen as did Sunday’s game.

Last night still comes down to venters doing his job. If Venters does not blow up, Braves have a solid win against the Yankees.

My points from last night: for whatever reason, Venters is struggling right now and even with a healthy EOF we need another solid bullpen arm – a true, reliable set up man. Gearrin is shaky at best in the bullpen and not an 8th inning option. The hitting still needs to get more consistent. McCann seems to be coming out of his funk but Freeman really needs to rediscover his stroke/rhythm. Great start by Minor – pitches were great and he handled the pressure against the Yankees very well

I love that no matter what the move…it is ALWAYS the wrong move. Venters in the 8th with no EOF is the right move, didn’t work out, but there isn’t another guy in the bullpen you use in that situation.

Livan in the 5th in a 4-1 game…pretty much the right move. Even if he collapses the offense should be able to win it in the next 4 innings.

Sure you could always use C-Mart, Durbin, Gearrin, etc, but those guys have had their blow-ups as well. It is baseball. You win some, you lose some. You can second guess ALL day long, but the record doesn’t change. 4 back in the division, win tonight!

Livan in the 5th in a 4-1 game…pretty much the right move. Even if he collapses the offense should be able to win it in the next 4 innings.

Livan is not a good pitcher anymore. I’m sure Fredi felt that he needed to get him some work after that many days spent… decaying… in the bullpen… but the fact remains that Livan is a batting-practice pitcher whose only asset is his experience. He has a little-league arm, but knows how to use what little he has left in the tank to keep some of the less-talented hitters off-balance. When that doesn’t work, though, the pitches he throws get absolutely murdered.

Fredi is nothing if not consistent. In his ml career, Kimbrel has had only three appearances (6/15/10, 18/8/10 and 4/21/11) of more than one inning. All were two inning stints. Looking at the top five save leaders in both leagues this year, five of the ten pitchers (Jim Johnson, Fernando Rodney, Alfredo Aceves, Santiago Casilla and Jonathan Papelbon) have had appearances longer than one inning.Casilla has done it four times this year. Aceves has had three two-inning appearances.
