The funny thing is, when a loss like this happens, I want as much as most on here to bitch about how bad the team’s doing; but then, when I see some of the adolescent s**t plastered on this blog, it really gives me pause. It is a 162-game season after all, and some around here don’t get it.

not sure who is actually sticking up for Fredi, some just aren’t driven to rant over and over about him. pretty much everybody thinks he screwed up tonight in one way or the other. claiming that is apologizing for him is pretty infantile

O’Flaherty has sore elbow, was unavailable past 2 days and probably another day or two, Fredi revealed after game. I asked him why not O’Flaherty instead of Gearrin and he said O’Flaherty woke with sore elbow Monday.

There is one positive about the Braves performance in recent years….. while I still get steamed when they blow one like they did tonight, it no longer bothers me to the point where I take it to bed. I’ve come to expect disappointment from the Atlanta Braves. It just doesn’t surprise me anymore when they find a way to turn chicken salad into chicken s@@t.

Fredi’s tone in post-game comments was remorseful about the loss. Minor’s comments were, of course, team supportive….said he felt strong/good the inning he was replaced. Said it was one of those nights he ‘had his stuff.’

People on here are venting about a terrible Braves loss.No one on the blog expects Fredi to be fired, and about the vitriol on the blog, go back and read some of the comments about Bobby Cox when the Braves got washed out of the playoffs year after year in the 90’s and early 2000’s.A lot of the fans on the blog still can’t get over the Braves collapse last year, and want Fredi or Wren to be held accountable.

Worst decision of the night by Fredi: having Gearrin pitch to Swisher with the game on the line. Left-handed hitters eat him up. If no EOF available, and if you don’t want to use Kimbrel in the 8th, then C. Martinez should have been in there.
Also Venters allowed to pitch to one or two batters too many. Also if you are going to pull Minor after giving up a single in the 8th, you should have just started the eight with a relief pitcher.
THERE, I JUST SUMMED IT UP BETTER THAN ANYONE OF YOU BASEBALL HACK BLOGGERS.

Probably right — Gonzalez won’t get the ax because the expectations for this team are low. As long as we have transplants putting butts in seats it’s good enough for all involved.
This game felt eerily like the Leyritz game.

Disgusted
I have said since the spring that the team is a very good team, with the potential to struggle to stay above .500 and the possibility to go into the post season, depending on luck, timing and development of some key young players.
Still the same team, as shown by the recent streaks.
But bullpens seem to fluctuate wildly from year to year. Guys are in the pen for a reason. They do not have the stuff or enough pitches to start. They are going to struggle and occasionally excel (elite closers and set up me exempt).
If you go back over the past 20 years, our bullpens have been very up and down, and end up having the most changes from year to year.
I also thought we were quite spoiled by the perfection of the back 3 for most of last season. Jonny needs to makes some adjustments. The hitters are onto him. If he makes the right adjustments, he’ll be OK. If not, he’ll be short lived, like about 50% of most bullpen guys.

Yep, the ironic thing is that given the so-so performance we’ve gotten from the pen, the rotation, and the fact that the offense has been a little inconsistent that one could argue we should be lucky to have the record we have. That’s the thing with this team, they have not been playing over their head like I think the Nats have (they’re a good team no doubt but I don’t think they keep this pace up) and they have one of the best records. There is room to improve, this isn’t the best we can give.

The curse of the Wohler’s curve ball strikes again. At least that’s how I feel when we play the yanks. But as one graphic showed, when you play a team with TWICE your payroll, you get what you pay for. So while I really like Heyward’s potential, when he’s your option to replace a Diaz, then we were lucky to get the one extra run. Not claiming to be an expert, but would agree with most here that Venters shouldn’t be used again, except maybe in the minors. His unbelievably bad.

The Fisher story is a funny one for sure. But I DO NOT like the guy. He was with us for a year (2006-2007 season). During the playoffs, it was discovered that his young daughter had some rare cancer in one of her eyes. He was well known for traveling across country to be with his daughter in the morning and making the playoff game in the evening. Everybody was impressed.
After the season was over, he pleaded his case with the Jazz owner that he was going to have to play somewhere close to NYC, if he even played at all the next season. The Jazz released him with the league’s blessing from the last year of his contract. The press conference was played here locally. He was crying. Larry Miller was crying. All his teammates were all in tears.
His daughter was being treated at some specialized hospital in NYC. Less than 3 weeks after his release, he signed a contract with the LA Lakers. ALL the fans in Utah felt they were lied to and totally misled. The national media never mentioned it at all. It was all a ruse to get out of his contract so he could go back and sniff Kobe’s jock strap in LA.
I felt terrible for him and his family over his daughter’s illness, but when he lied to the Jazz and the fans of Utah, he lost all sympathy and credibility with me and most Utah Jazz fans.
He gets boo’d unmercifully when his teams visit Utah now. Well deserved.
I don’t wish harm on any person, but I would shed no tears if he had a career ending injury some day.
So that’s my story on why I think Derek Fisher is a total ass.
