great job by the bats tonight – Freeman’s return obviously huge for this lineup – I also like him hitting in the 5th spot. McCann coming to life also big.
Don’t forget the sparkplug Constanza. Great game. Makes us better defensively in the OF and the team is much stronger with Prado at 3B and Constanza in LF than with Prado in LF and Francisco at 3B

I hope I read on here about everyone bad mouthing Wilson after tonight’s game. That’s 2 errors on him in the game. Everybody likes to talk smack about the rookie Rev and his defense so I expect the same for has been Wilson.

Georgie has good instincts and covers some ground with his speed in LF. I’m not a big fan of his but he played this same ball last year until he sprained his ankle. Maybe he deserves another look while we’re winning with him in the lineup.

Jason Heyward has not had a multi hit performance in a nine inning game since April 19th. More than 37 games have gone bye and Jason Heyward has YET to have a TWO HIT GAME since April 19th.
Since April 20th Jason Heyward has gone 24 for 122 that’s a .196 average!!!!!!
For the month of May Heyward has hit for a .209 average and a .321 OBP. PATHETIC!!!!

DOB – Over nearly 40 games Jason Heyward has hit under .200 and we haven’t heard a word about it in your blog. Can we get an update on your thoughts about Heyward at the plate? He has looked terrible since April 20th hitting for a .196 average over 37 games yet he continues to start every game. Your the beat writer you report on everything that is Braves baseball and we’re trotting out a guy that’s hit .196 for the past 37 games now and you haven’t reported much of anything on Heyward’s struggles at the plate….

JNick-If Furcal can make the leap from High A ball, Andy should get a shot. It surprised me in a way that Andy’s defense wasn’t the deciding factor in choosing him over Rev considering the Braves history of winning on pitching and defense. Then you have essentially two rookies starting in the back half of the rotation where they need all the defense they can get. A bit puzzling.

Heyward is just 22 and still has a high ceiling. He should though, be on notice, with Constanza’s success in the lineup. It would be really easy to move Constanza to RF, Prado to LF, and Chipper to 3B when he returns with Chipper inserted into Heyward’s spot in the batting order.
If that happens it would be interesting to see if the BRaves consider sending him down for some low pressure batting work for a couple of weeks

cab–I am guessing you are for the Kings? Never been much of a fan of hockey but have been to see the Devils with friends, since moving here to NJ. So I guess I will go for them. Once, when I lived in Boston, I was invited to go to a Bruins game with a group of Catholic priests. Had a conflict and so did not go. Think it would have been an interesting sociological experience.

been a Kings fan off and on for years…I find it hard to find the time to watch during the regular season (too much else going on) but I love play-off hockey, no matter who is playing. The Kings having this magical run is just icing on the cake for me

cab–I think I will never be more than a playoff fan. It is fun to see live but not as much on t.v. I have lived in Boston, Chicago and now New Jersey, but I have never paid much attention. Hope the Kings do well.

Chip and Joe just said Wilson’s hit was the turning point and the key hit in the game. So, he got a clutch RBI…is that better?
I personally think Freeman’s return was the high point to the game and the spark we have needed and missed. And Georgie did OK too, as much as it pains me to say, but he seems to make the most of his chances, at least for awhile.

Well, I’m glad they sent Pastornicky out…….but I don’t think 10 years in AAA will make up for tools he just don’t have…….he doesn’t have the arm or the range to be an everyday major league SS….don’t even think his glove is good enough to be a backup infielder……that’s a shame….he had shown some flashes of potential at the plate…

my guess is he…well I agree with nolie. would be stupid to make the move today and not start him tomorrow. He could have just as easily flown to washington saturday am for that start (and the braves never do anything stupid).
or maybe they will use him as a defensive replacement for wilson

Didn’t see the game tonight – the summary reads like our pitching was more unlucky than bad. 7 runs, 5 earned, and no extra base hits… just 10 singles, and almost all of them ground balls. But, maybe I’m just reading into it what I want to believe…

This should quite all the Wren haters (a minute or 2) for doing nothing…he’s changed the starting rotation and our shortstop in less than a week. Medlen and Simmons are hopefully better options than what we were using.
