Series preview: vs. Cardinals

When (TV): 1:10 p.m. Monday (SPSO); 7:10 p.m. Tuesday (SPSO); 7:10 p.m. Wednesday (SPSO)

Radio: 680, 93.7, 100.5

Probable starting pitchers:

Monday: Braves RH Tommy Hanson (5-3, 3.12 ERA) vs. RH Lance Lynn (7-1, 2.54)

Tuesday: Braves RH Randall Delgado (2-5, 4.53) vs. RH Jake Westbrook (4-3, 3.38)

Wednesday: Braves RH Tim Hudson (3-2, 4.12) vs. RH Kyle Lohse (5-1, 2.90)

About the Braves:

Batting: The Braves have cooled since their three-game sweep in St. Louis May 11-13, when they hit .290 and averaged 7.7 runs per game. They’d hit only .237 with 3.3 runs per game in 13 games since entering Sunday. Michael Bourn went 8-for-17 (.471) in that series, with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Martin Prado had 12 multi-hit games in his previous 18 games entering Sunday, while hitting 437 (31-for-71).

Pitching: Hanson got the better of Lynn and the Cardinals three starts ago, allowing one run in five innings, walking three and striking out nine. The only run was a Carlos Beltran homer. Hanson has allowed only three runs in 13 innings in each of his past two starts, against the Rays and Reds. He took a no-decision in a 2-1 loss despite allowing only one run in six innings at Great American Ballpark.

Miscellaneous: The Braves sweep over the Cardinals May 11-13 snapped an 0-7 streak at Busch Stadium since September of 2009. They are 3-4 at home against the Cardinals since 2009.

About the Cardinals:

Batting: The Cards are 6-8 since facing the Braves and just lost three of four to the Phillies. They hit four home runs, including a grand slam by Yadier Molina off Roy Halladay on Sunday. Carlos Beltran hit his NL-leading 15th of the year. He hit two of those homers in the May 11-13 series vs. the Braves while going 5-for-12 with four extra-base hits and five RBIs.

Pitching: The Braves handed Lynn his first loss of the year after getting him for three runs in six innings in a 7-4 win on May 13. Jason Heyward had the big blow, with a bases-loaded double. After going 6-0 with a 1.40 ERA in his first six starts, Lynn is 1-1 with a 5.00 ERA in his past three but is still tied with four others for the major-league lead in wins (seven).

Miscellaneous: Lance Berkman underwent arthroscopic knee surgery since the Braves last saw him May 13. He’s one of five Cardinals to go on the DL in a five-day span, including Allen Craig (hamstring) and Matt Carpenter (oblique).

Fredi over uses the staring pitchers into the 7th inning yet gives relievers days off and lets McCann &Freeman play whenever they want to.

This team is so predictable lately. Can they do anything right? For one, Pastornicky shouldn’t be trying to make plays like he did in that inning. Those plays are reserved for good players, something he is not. Will McCann be the first ever player to go on the DL for having the flu? Man up dude and earn your money. 5 games missed for the f’n flu? Can any team win when Diaz, Hinske, Boscan and Pastornicky are starting? I have seen high school teams with better lineups than that. This team is sinking faster that the Titanic.

Ok boys, its the 5th inning and getting late. Time to do what you do best, choke and lose the game.

McCann must have something other than the flu.

This team is f’n pathetic. From top to bottom with the exception of a few, this team is pathetic. This team can never win when they have to, they consistently choke. It wouldn’t hurt my feeling one single bit for this team to get a complete makeover. Keep a few and unload the rest, and I mean the rest. Keep Freeman, Prado, and a few others and let others walk or trade away and get something in return. This team won’t be good for a few years regardless of who is on the team, so may as well get rid of this tired ass routine. Sick and tired of supporting a team with no heart or passion. Get off your lazy pathetic asses and do something right for a change you complete bunch of f’n losers.

Every batter is swinging for the fences trying to kill the ball. They look like little leaguers at the plate.

Seriously, the fans are happy because Martinez struck out a Nats player down 7-2 in the 9th? How pathetic is that? This team is horrendous. How was this team ever in 1st place? They are a f’n joke. 2 f’n hits in the entire game. Please release Diaz and Hinske. They are counting on these two as their top options off the bench? If that is the case, then the entire Braves front office and coaching staff need to be fired for being retarded. The Braves have the worst backups at every position in baseball. When you have Chipper out half the f’n season every year, McCann missing a week of baseball because he doesn’t feel good, and Freeman missing game after game because he can’t see, you need better backups than these useless pieces of crap. Well on their way to choking another season away.

This team deserves nothing more than last place and no fan attendance the rest of the year. They gave up, so the fans should give up on them as well. Pathetic bunch of losers.

On the bright side, at least they are quitting in May instead of August. We won’t have the pain and agony of being chokers in the playoff run. They will be out of it by end of July, if not sooner.

Braves have gone back to last year’s idiotic hitting approach “swing for fences boys, no matter the count, no matter the situation”.

The Braves spend millions on guys who don’t play.
If ticket prices and player’s salaries reflected the true value provided, refunds would be flying.

Just got back from the game. You are not going to be competitive with Diaz, Hinske and Pasternicky as starters. Heyward has yet to be a major factor. Prado and Bourne are the only true stars on the team but they can’t do it alone. I don’t understand leaving Livan in. He gave up four runs and the game was essentially over given our lackluster offense. Unless the starters get in the game and stay in, this is going to be a long season. With free agency coming up for some key players, this needed to be our year.

I feel good not having spent a penny on these clowns these years. Chipped deserves better than this in his last year.

The Cardinals will not even recognize this team from the one that took 3 from them recently. They have 3 good pitchers with winning records so should sweep this series from the Braves easily. The only way the Braves could take this series would be to call up the entire Gwinnett team. That brings up an interesting question. Why has Constanza not been called up since he is on the 40 man roster? He is batting near .300 and was a big spark last year when needed. He certainly would be better in the outfield than Hinske or Diaz, and right now as good as Heyward. Baffling!!!!!!

Most of the injuries have been on the hitting side. Injuries don’t explain why the pitching, particularly the bullpen, has been atrocious. A trade is sorely needed. If they don’t at least bring in Oswalt for a workout to see what he has left, they are not doing their jobs.
