Here’s a simple one that Fredi can’t resolve in that low ceiling mind of his. Right now, aside from our lead-off hitter, who he our best all-around hitter? and where do you bat your best all-around hitter? Third!
So, with Freeman out who should be batting third now? Prado!
If FG had half a brain with the injured we have now he’d have batted P-Nicky 2nd and push Prado back to third. With the way Bourne has been getting on, you’d have P-Nicky to move him over and Prado to drive him in. But this this ever cross FG’s mind?
I’ll say it until the day he’s replaced…nice man, player’s manager, but dumb as a box of rocks!
And yes, I’d release/Gwinnettize Juan ‘meet me at the buffett’ Francisco and bring back Constanza.
At least then Prado could go back to third and ‘Georgie’ could play left……When Chippers’ out, we’d have better defense and offense than it is now with Francisco in the game.
Well., I am facing the facts….the Braves can not hang with the elite teams in the National League…Philly, Cinci, giants, mets, and even the Nationals…COME ON BRAVES GET BACK TO BASICS….STOP TRYING TO HIT A HOMER EVERY AT BAT…LOOK AT PASTORNICKY…HE JUST GETS UP THERE AND HITS THE BALL IN PLAY….COME ON BRAVES…DANG!
I’ll re-open the case. Mazzone was grossly overrated…and he lost plenty of playoff series while with Braves. Or did you forget the one WS championship despite making the playoffs 14 straight years while with the Braves from 1991-2005. I would argue that Mr. Avery, Mr Glavine, Mr. Smoltz, Mr. Maddux, Mr. Neagle, etc., made him look pretty good sitting in the dugout watching and rocking like an imbecilic dork.
How well did he do in Baltimore when he had to actually teach something?
I am cognizant of the points you made.
I am not impressed with McDowell.
As for only one WS title, I blame Cox moreso
for that. Mazzone did not determine the
pitch hitters, line up, etc…
Sorry, but I’m really ready for a change. Let Chipper manage the team. ok, not going to happen soon, then please let the starting pitchers pitch themselves out of trouble. This 5 inning, 6 inning stuff is to “2000″. I came up during the years that pitchers threw complete games. They did it in college, they did in high school, but somehow the big league managers don’t think they can. Check out the Nolan Ryan thinking towards pitching.
The Nolan Ryan way of thinking is mostly narrative. Check out the numbers and see how cutting-edge they really are. Not to mention Neftali Feliz just went on the DL with elbow problems (which I don’t think is necessarily Ryan’s fault, especially given how little different they are from the rest of baseball, but you can’t have it both ways).
I’m expecting Fredi to put Heyworthless in the lead off spot and bat Bourn 8th tonight.Like I posted last night, putting Heybust in the 3 hole last night was grounds for immediate termination. This was the final nail in the coffin as far as Fredo is concerned. They will not win with him,and are way too short on talent to win in spite of him.
How about asking Freddi about the TWO hanging breaking balls that uggla missed. We made Bailey look really good in spite of him being awful on the mound as well as the rest of the bullpen. They didn’t even bother to bring in the closer in a save situation in the smallest park in the country. That’s how little they feared our hitting
I think we are tired and i don’t blame them!!!!34 games in 35 days?!? It’s like watching the NBA schedule this year. But i do agree with some of the points. I’m losing confidence in Heyward and McCann needs to be traded while he still has some value. It’s hard watching Heyward struggle and seeing Stanton(came up the same year as Heyward) carry his team….the way he was projected too.
I never had confidence in Heyward. The 9 steals are nice but dude has a whopping 42ks already – almost once every three at bats. That’s a ton of whiffs for someone showing little power. The 19 walks are nice but that will happen when a rookie and the pitcher are batting behind you. Compound the sub-par offense with well-below average range in the field and a second baseman’s arm and you have… Francouer….without the arm.
Freeman strikes out just as often and has a lower on-base percentage than Heyward. I don’t say this to belittle Freeman. Personally, I like both of them going forward. I’m just not sure why Heyward receives such vitriol out here while Freeman gets a pass. I do, however, have a theory……
Tpic, good point. These guys are painful to listen to. I prefer fair-minded, experienced analysis of what’s happening. They will show a replay of a questionable pitch when it effects the Braves negatively, but will let those same calls go without any comment or acknowledgement when it benefits the Braves. I want honest assessments of what is happening regardless, and occasional insight that might allow us to learn something. You get nothing from them, except Homer Babble. It is absolutely painful to listen to. And then you get Turnoff on 680 calling the walk off HR a ‘fly ball.’….as if it somehow wasn’t really a HR. What a joke.
Wow, being a Braves fan you start to hear it all! I’ve heard loses be blamed on coaches, injuries, players, umpires, and the weather. I’ve never heard fans or an organization blame the ballpark for losing games, UNTIL now. Joe Simpson and the rest of the Braves fans thought we were an offensive machine, after playing in the Rockies ballpark. Quit being delusional, and realize this team has a lot of problems to fix before the all-star break. Dan Uggla is in the top 5 right now in striking out, not because of the Reds ballpark. He simply is a dumb hitter! Do you honestly think we can win a World Series, when you have pitchers like Hanson, Minor, and Delgado in the starting rotation?
I’m calling for the triple F’s! FFF (Fire Fredi and Frank)!!! Quit bringing in clowns to manage a baseball organization!
I’ll second the call for Wren’s head. Uggla is pure dog s h i t and we won’t be able to dump him for 5 years. His at-bats are painful to watch. I almost believe he decides whether to swing before the pitch. That contract will be an albatross around our necks
i’m hoping the Braves are doing what they did 10 years ago – play 6 games over .500 ball thru April, May and the first part of June. Then as the weather heats up, so do the bats and they start winning every series and put a choke hold on the division. If we take care of the MEOWS (Montreal Expos Of Washington) this weekend, the disaster that occured in the ‘natti will all be forgotten. Time to step it up boys …
alex @2:02 pm……..I’m right here, little buddy.

Tommy………That is what THEY, call themselves, and they get even more upset than they already are, if you question their ‘loyalty???’ to ‘their’ team. haha
The 6th inning continues to be the thorn in our side. With our strong bullpen Id like to see Fredi be a little more aggressive in going to the pen. Too often we’re waiting until things unravel rather than picking up on early cues that bats are getting on the ball or balls are missing their targets.
Love Fredi but he has got to learn when to substitute pitchers! He made at least 3 errors of judgment in the Reds series and I’m watching the Nationals game now and, once again, he took Hudson out 2 batters to late. It’s a shame because Fredi is otherwise a fabulous manager but this blind spot together with his propensity to be sucked into that massively mistaken myth that “the bullpen was overworked” last year, thereby limiting them too much this year (Venters is suffering greatly from not pitching more) is a HUGE PROBLEM that could be massively detrimental to the Braves before it is remedied.

Fredi needs help from Leo Mazzone,
just like Bobby Cox needed it, managing the
pitching staff (especially the bullpen).
The Braves have not won a playoff series since
Mazzone left. I rest my case.
