Call me superstitious but with the written and broadcast media raving so much about Beachy today… I anticipated this outing. It’s like jinxing a pitcher throwing a no-no.
As for the teams as a whole, when the Braves staff throws a mistake, the Reds lineup hits it out of the park. When the Cincy staff throws a mistake, Braves hitters pop it up or hit it to the warning track.
When you get some support in this ballpark it’s a bit easier to pitch. The Cincy lineup is coming to the plate with the lead, digging in, and teeing off! I’m not one who likes the idea of throwing at hitters but the Braves are going to have to get the Reds off the plate or they will be killing the pitches for another 2 and a half games! Can you say brush back, chin music?
Bad enuff to have to watch them lose a game without having to come here and read all the ignorant hating remarks that are so far from reality as to be ludicrous
this ball park is a joke
If i’m not mistaken those fences are the same distance for both teams, the joke is braves hitters.
May 22nd, 20128:30 pm
Don’t read them!
just getting to 50pitches in the 5th inning. thats pretty good
May 22nd, 20128:31 pm
Beachy could easily get us 7 inning still. Not pitching great but still good enough to win.
how can you not when they take up 90% of the damn blog when we are losing
well atleast teheran pitched well today lol
May 22nd, 20128:32 pm
In 23 games Brice Harper has as many doubles and triples and J-Hey does in 42 games and he has a better average, OBP, SLG %, and OPS and he’s 19 years old…..
Join in on the fun!
May 22nd, 20128:33 pm
ignorance is not fun
May 22nd, 20128:34 pm
Misery loves company.
hey braves fans…..how does it feel looking up at us?
Harper’s in a different “league.”
Heyward will never know that league.
There you go Beachy!!!! Nice 1,2,3 innings. Come on offense pick it up for Beachy like he’s done for you plenty of times in his young career…With as many HR’s as the Reds are hitting we’re bound to hit a few out tonight too!!!!
Quit looking in the mirror!
May 22nd, 20128:35 pm
Lets get a run or 8.
When you give up 7 home runs in less than a game and a half all on fastballs, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that you may need to throw your off speed pitches more than just once to each individual hitter.
Harper has had 94 plate appearances. Jason has had 1245. Can’t really compare the numbers…
Do some of you actually expect Beachy to pitch a gem every outing? My God, even Halladay throws a stinker now and then. We are still very much in this.game. Chill.
I see you cozy-ing up with us……feeling rough today?
May 22nd, 20128:36 pm
Also, Mike Trout is significantly better than Harper is at this point in their careers. (and this season)- would be nice for him to be getting even half the attention
You almost have to pitch backwards to this team in this park.
May 22nd, 20128:37 pm
I want the Reds in double-digits tonight.
Maybe that’ll teach us!
Joe in SoCal
Good start Marteeeen!! keep it going FF
May 22nd, 20128:38 pm
Even Chip is annoyed by Latos. Never seen him annoyed by a player.
Teach us what?
Hey Freddie would it kill u to take the 1st pitch ?
nice hit by Prado. We need Freeman to pick it back up
Whats Freemans AVG since being annointed the #3 hitter by chipper?
May 22nd, 20128:39 pm
Nope, I’m alright Mixxo. Just seems like everyone’s even more pessimistic than usual. We’ll be okay.
Smallest ever MLB yard I heard of was the Polo Grounds, home of the Muts prior to Shea…..I hope Freeman got those wet sand bags out of his pants for this at-bat……….Polo was 260 ft. down lines.
Bad boy Freddie. Go in the clubhouse and sit in a corner.
Lets start getting some walks
Better than a double play still, gives Uggla a chance to tie game.
why the Braves guess so much with 2 strikes is beyond me. Latos throws hard enough you have to prepare for the fastball and adjust if it is offspeed.
May 22nd, 20128:40 pm
Pizza & wine. Happy on a plate
Teach us ….. we just can’t Lah-Di-Daa our way into Cincinnati after a good series in Tampa and expect to win w/o effort!!!
Polo Grounds was around way b4 the Mets…
Uggla is taking some pitches something good is about to happen hopefully
May 22nd, 20128:41 pm
Beachy has built some equity that Minor does not have. Beachy hasn’t been his best tonight but Minor has stunk it up for many starts in a row!
Really isn’t going to matter if the Braves bats can’t score runs in the “Great American Smallpark!”
May 22nd, 20128:42 pm
When will Fredi learn that having two strikeout machines batting 3rd and 4th isnt such a bright idea?
Uggla leads the team in walks doesn’t he?
The Mets did play at the Polo Grounds for 1962 and 1963
always taking the first pitch is not a good plan – pitchers groove one if you always take.
That being said, take the first pitch a lot, but keep the pitcher honest by occasionally taking a swing. Go up there only swinging on the first pitch on occasion only if it is the pitch you want in the location you want it. Taking a rip here or there will keep one from always being down in the count 0-1
May 22nd, 20128:43 pm
The Polo Grounds may have been 260 down the right field line, but it was 449 to Right Center, 483 (not a typo) to dead center, 450 to left center, and a short 279 down the left field line. So if you didn’t hit it right down the line, you were not getting a home run there…
Uggla is f****** worthless folks.
Well, got his pitch count up anyway. lol
The Reds hit homers, the Braves hit popups.
Dadgum, our offense has been taken to the ole school house. Need to take some lessons.
May 22nd, 20128:44 pm
We’re missing a lot of fat pitches tonight.
All of sudden, the Braves hitting coaches aren’t looking so great, huh?
your right nick…..braves blow….they dont have the lineup or rotation to match up with the nats
May 22nd, 20128:45 pm
it is hard to hold homeruns against a pitcher in this park, but it makes it more inexcusable about the Braves lack of production the last 2 games.
We need one more bat in this lineup, especially when Chipper is not in the lineup. Francisco and Diaz are not that bat that we need
Heyward’s swing is god awful.
Uggla leads in both walks and strike outs
hitting coaches are just fine – no Mac and no Chipper = no offensive production
Michael Tucker K, the kid is a BUST.
May 22nd, 20128:46 pm
With such a young team I find myself asking myself if I’m older than these guys. I guess on avg I’m older than them.
The Braves bats have gone ice cold lately and the opposing pitchers are making some tough pitches on them.
yup a weird shape cab, Mell Ott was an expert at pullin’ them down the line.60 % of his homers were there
May 22nd, 20128:47 pm
Heyward needs to sit, he really does. He’s spiraling into that Mendoza area here soon. Needs to get it together with a breather for a bit. Hate what I’m seeing from him, having terrible flashbacks.
Latos has some serious white trasher ink.
We are now seeing the real braves, I stand by my no better than 4th place prediction.
May 22nd, 20128:48 pm
Uggla leads the team in walks and strikeouts. He seems to have a more patent approach at the plate. But were paying him to slug.
The LA Coliseum was 251 down the left field line (they had to put a 42 foot high screen up to keep balls in the park), & the left center power alley was 320
May 22nd, 20128:49 pm
nolie, if that was a list of good shows that got cancelled, Body of Proof is coming back, thankfully. We will still get to watch the delicious and delectable Dana Delaney and Jeri Ryan.
Latos tattoos or Heywards swing,I don’t know which is uglier.
The term “Moon Shot” came from Wally Moon of the Dodgers hitting home runs over the screen in left field at the Coliseum
May 22nd, 20128:50 pm
There ya go J-Hey… I can’t be too mad because he had a nice double but he’s had ONE yes ONE multi hit game since April 20th. It’s pathetic I mean he’s barely averaging .200 over the last month plus it’s a joke. He has no excuse this year. He’s drawing less walks and striking out more than his rookie year his K’s are up even from his terrible 2011 season and his walks are only the same as his terrible 2011 season. He’s hitting for about the same power as his pathetic season last year….
I’m really starting to worry that this is the real J-Hey not the kid that got on base at a .380 clip his rookie year. It’s a shame because he hasn’t lived up to the hype. He hasn’t even been anywhere near it since his rookie year….
I thought I read it was cancelled ken. Hope you are right, but I will miss the others to one degree or another
Beachy knows how to pitch, unlike Minor. He adjusts himself out there changing patterns. He just doesn’t have the pin point location tonight. Happens.
VJ is a big fan of Dana Delaney (who shares a birthday- but not year- with me)
May 22nd, 20128:51 pm
Would be awesome if Beachy can buckle down and get us 7 innings
I never knew that cab…the biggest CF? Just know about the porch in right….saw SF and Willie Mays vs. Mets in I think 1962 at age 5.
Body of Proof was renewed (VJ follows Dana on twitter and the news came directly from her )
May 22nd, 20128:52 pm
Ross’ throws have been off this year.
Damnit Ross Votto stole 2nd on you??? Votto???
May 22nd, 20128:53 pm
good to hear
May 22nd, 20128:54 pm
I hope there was not a bigger one
Votto stole around 15 bases on year not too long ago
May 22nd, 20128:55 pm
It is amazing how pathetic our offense is when Chipper is on the bench. It’s like the entire morale just changes when he’s not out their almost like the guys say “oh well Chipper isn’t playing we’re gonna loose.”
Lets go Brucey!
How the heck did Tim McCarver get in the HOF??????
May 22nd, 20128:56 pm
nolie, it was on the bubble, but TV Guide reported it got a last minute reprieve. Besides the eye candy, it was a well done procedure show, except for the story line with the Miller High Life dude getting to be boss for a few weeks…it just didn’t work. That guy is a one note actor and gets old real fast.
How bad are we gonna be next year without Chipper?
Stick it on Heyward. the guys just hit a double with a ribbie FCS
Any dummy could see during our averaging of 5-7 runs a game woudn’t hold up. You get out on the road in a grueling games played stretch and then a Chipper goes down with an injury, things can get a litle ugly sometimes.
Dana Delaney?Isn’t she like 55 years old?
Deion pulled some strings.
Fan since '66
Brian, doesn’t Heyward have on of the Braves’ 2 RBI tonight?
Waffle House or Bust
Anyone else notice the DOB headline curse continues?
Miller High Lite dude?
May 22nd, 20128:57 pm
Nolie – Votto stole 8 bases last year and got caught stealing 6 times….He shouldn’t be running on the combo of Beachy and Ross. Beachy gets the ball to the plate quick he doesn’t have a long wind up or leg kick and Ross has a great arm. Votto shouldn’t be stealing bases on those 2 guys…
