Random, I am sure that you get your stats from the same place. ERA stats are not whack, they were meant to be cumulative (Apr-May) to show overall improvement…It was really the other individual game stats that were the point, to refute the “you never know what you are going to get out of Delgado.” crowd. Frankly, he has been fairly consistent, even with that last start.
But he still sucks.

There’s a fellow who plays CF and leads off that might disagree with that…
that’s another problem with this team, players don’t know their roles. lead off hitter should be getting on base, which is mostest important thing, than hitting meaningless homers and leaving bases empty, killing any chance of a rally. fire FG if he doesn’t pull Bourn today to “send a message”…
btw, statement “keeping-series-alive” game today, absolute must-win

We will have SOME money to spend during the off season…even after the increases to several players. Of course, we will have to fill some holes with somebody. That should still leave enough for one or so big salaries. So, do we spend it on McCann, Bourn, Wright, and ace….it’s a real puzzlement.

Guys- Wright is not a FA this off season unless the Mets trade him this season which isn’t happening. There’s a club option for next year which they will absolutelypick up even if they can’t sign him and they can trade him next year instead. Unless the Braves offer the mets a kings ransom their best shot at Wright will be for the 2014 season. Oh yeah, and it will likely cost a few sheckles to lock him up.
Now you might be able to pry A-Rod from the Yankees if you split his salary with them. {:

Anders – Maybe it is more than that. Stranger things have been known to happen and I’ve always liked Wright and was surpirsed at his drop off the past coupe of years – attributed that to health issues.
But can player turn it on like that? As often as players have career years in walk years? Yeah, I think it happens all the time.

Lew – I think your 9:23 is spot on. Very good point and might be a turning point for Minor this year. His outing was better than the three before it, 4 moonshot homers or not.
A hitter’s ballpark….why aren’t we jacking homers left and right too then, aside from Bourn? I hate using excuses for our pitching like that when we face the exact same conditions and aren’t taking advantage of them.
That said, yeah, if we get swept, the world won’t stop turning, but I don’t expect this team to let that happen if it’s as good as we think/hope it is. Time to go out tonight and win the game.

Not a bad game last night. It was close. Fun to watch. Would have liked the win, but c’est la vie.
I’m thinking Freeman is going to be a little bit more thoughtful on his next attempt to stretch a single into a double. Seems like this series the team has been a bit over aggressive in that area.
Hope Chipper gets in there today.

That offensive slump has a lot more to do with things than Minor or Delgado or any other starter, for that matter. They’ve hit a little slump. And everyone knows that a 10-game slump completely negates the offensive surge of the other 30 games. In other words, the previous 30 games mean nothing, only the last ten are truly indicative of the offense.
If this weren’t self-evident, why, you only need to read the posts in this forum to be fully informed of the fact, LOL.

I think part of Wright’s resurgence is that the old guard is finally gone and even Reyes leaving has pushed him to the forefront as the clear single leader and Sr. guy on the club. Murph, Freeman has hit .204 over his last 15; Uggla has hit .245. The middle of the order as a whole is struggling. Only McCann is starting to come alive, in the middle. Heyward’s had a bad month, and that’s a fact, but he isn’t the only one.
Right now, the team is getting a lot of outs from 3 through 7. Even with Bourn and Prado rippin’ it, gotta have somebody to get them in. Got to have at least two of those guys (McCann/Uggla/Heyward/Freeman) going good.

And it ’s one reason that I fully expect a contract extension for McCann, who – after Chipper leaves – will be our veteran presence and face of the franchise. Murph – Well, Chipper wasn’t nearly as vocal, nor did he take as large a leadership position while Smoltz was still with the team. Such may well be the case with Mac. But they will give him a contract extension and the reasons I just cited will be a factor.
And I also believe that Prado is extended and that it’s a third baseman they look for next year (and CFer) and not a LFer. We already have a LFer who can hit, brings a positive poutlook to the team and – as many as well as Murph have mentioned – leads by example and hits damned well.

you didnt ask me, but i dont really think they are, personally. the W-L record with and without him is kind of an anomaly, bulked up by the 0-4 start where he was on the DL. this team can win without chipper in the lineup, and they have been proving that for several seasons now.

Jim Abbott was first drafted in 1985 by the Jays and then again in 1988 by the Angels was traded by the Angels to the Yanks for Russ Springer, among others. Springer last played in the majors in 2010. Of all the guys Abbott was traded for, Springer was the last to leave the majors. And Russ Springer outlasted all the guys he was traded for. When Springer retired, that was the last strand of Jim Abbott on the game.

Chipper’s been out a lot lately.
Yes, it doesn’t help that, when Freeman/Uggla/Heyward are slumpy, the two guys who actually are swinging it in the middle are MIA. That’s just bad timing. When McCann was struggling early, Heyward/Freeman/Uggla were getting it done. Now, those guys have struggled some, and it’s up to McCann and Chipper to carry it until the other guys break out.
As long as Bourn or Prado (and, to a lesser extent, The Rev) are getting on base and at least a couple of guys in the middle are going good, this team will be fine, offensively.
