Nick’s not really negative!! He’s trolling!!
Tight strike zone for both teams today, B_F 52
May 19th, 20125:23 pm
McCann’s fatness cost us a run.
Good news, two open spots in the rotation now, and Jurrjens can fill one of them!

WE WANT OSWALT!!!!!!!
So we can all b i t c h when he goes on the DL ????
Delgado problem this game is him being afraid to throw strikes to the first batter coming up…He walks him then pitches from the stretch
g tomorrow? Why is that?…cab
Price, I guess
May 19th, 20125:24 pm
Guys, it’s just the fourth inning for crying out loud.
At the moment, we have pitching depth of about 3 pitchers: Beachy, Hanson, and Hudson, with one of those coming off shoulder issues and the other one coming off back surgery. Minor with a 7+ era. At triple A, JJ gives up 10 ER this week and Teheran is not exactly tearing it up. So the depth is super thin. Thus, the need to call up Mr. Oswalt’s agent as soon as this evening.
“Good, he deserves it”???? REALLY???? Can you be any more of a selfish ass?
Call me whatever you want. If you don’t throw strikes, you get behind, you walk people, you put runners on, you create situations, and you’re forced to throw meatballs. He created the jam all by himself, and then made a mistake… should I cry and hug him?
He asked for it, he got it. Deserved it. Hopefully learned from it, and now moves on.
Taking Medlen out of the pen will have a negative impact also. Plus, he’s not stretch out enough now so we’d either be putting MORE pressure on the pen or we’d lose him while he was in the minors, putting more pressure on the pen
jeffrey d – Thanks for reminding me not to feed the trolls. My emotions temporarily got the best of me…
May 19th, 20125:25 pm
Heyward with another weak bouncer on the infield.
May 19th, 20125:26 pm
Of course the Braves offense has completely shut down for the day.
Thanks Lawton and thanks mammalian protruberances
At least we know this Braves team can score runs to win the game.
May 19th, 20125:27 pm
Right now there’s not a cloud in the sky, I’m laying in my hammock catching up on another great read of a DOB blog and watching the Braves on my laptop. Not sure how this could be any more relaxing.
Oswalts is a perfect fit for the Braves

“Not sure how this could be any more relaxing.”
Not watching the Braves or reading the blog?
May 19th, 20125:29 pm
Where would the Braves dig up the $5+ million it will most likely take for half s season of Oswalt?
May 19th, 20125:31 pm
By dumping JJ off to a desparate AL team……..Besides they have extra cash
May 19th, 20125:32 pm
No one would take JJ AND his salary right now
What makes you think they have hat much extra cash? And I’m not sure an team would take JJ’s contract right now…
May 19th, 20125:33 pm
I read somewheree the braves said they have have 4-5 mil to spend this year, and so it’s expected they actually have 9 mil to spend. (since Frank Wren wouldn’t show his cards)
May 19th, 20125:34 pm
Cab- Better to have a little pressure on the pen now than suffer the consequences in September. Do you remember what happened to the bullpen last September because of Hansen’s and Jurrigen’s inability to pitch effectively after the All-Star Break? Chris is 6-2 as a starter and the Braves have won more games than that when he starts. You can’t say the same for Delgado.
May 19th, 20125:35 pm
Since Wren doesn’t share payroll information, I’m not sure how anyone would know what there is left over
The Braves have a very legit shot at winning the division and making the playoffs with perhaps a first round bye which would be huge, but guys like Delgado will ruin their chance if they are allowed to continue to struggle in very important games.
He needs to fix his issues in the minors where the games aren’t as important. The Braves can’t allow him to continue learning on the job in the majors, these games are to important as we all found out when the Braves choked away a huge lead last season and lost out on a shot at the playoffs by 1 game. All of these games are crucial if the want a shot at the World Series.
Let Medlen be the 5th starter and either put Delgado in the Medlen’s role in the bullpen, or send him down and bring up a different pitcher for that bullpen spot. So sick of the Braves allowing certain players to continue ruining this teams chances, and letting down the fans who pay their salaries. Delgado is not the best option for the 5th spot in the rotation, now find someone who is.
jeffrey – you are responding peripherally to him more than anyone is directly…
MFin04 @ 5:28 pm
..or we could be winning.but this hammock even makes losing feel okay lol.
May 19th, 20125:36 pm
Hello everyone! Cab – Oswalt is going to Boston , Cards, or the Rangers, not the Braves, and agree now, Oswalt is not the perfect fit. J-Man – Wish Upon A Star. Oswalt isn’t happening…….
Lawton–You might be surprised, if a team like Boston which thinks its a contender and hangs around within 6 or 7 games, they could afford to take the salary and give the Braves a low level player in their system.
They really need pitching now given that the Bard experiment looks like a fiasco & they have no clue what they are going to get from Beckett from start to start. Note that Beckett has never had 2 good yrs in a row, last yr was a good one.
Then again, if they are in the mix for Oswalt, they have no need for JJ.
You never know who is looking for a SP at the deadline, That is a time JJ could be moved. Of course if would have to be one of thosse $$$$$ teams and by the deadline just how much of his salary is the other team picking up.
You never know.
Oswalt is NOT comming here, but I think you agree with that.
Last year was quite a different story. The Braves didn’t have several pitchers in the bullpen capable of going multiple innings. This year they do.
May 19th, 20125:37 pm
That’s B.S.=Before Surgery.
Well, I see Randall hit his wall in the 4th. Just can’t give him runs and him keep from giving them back.
That is exactly why Kris is in the pen. To help save the back end guys so they don’t get over worked again. But say we put Medlen in the rotation now. He MAY be able to go 4 innings his first opulent outings. Which means the pen would have to throw that many more innings and NOT have Medlen in there to help.
May 19th, 20125:38 pm
I think Braves should try,and trade J.J. Try to get some thing for him, or they will get nothing when next year comes……
May 19th, 20125:39 pm
Actually, I think there is a possibility that Oswalt could sign with the Braves. I’m not saying it s a good chance and I wouldn’t call the Braves the favorites to land him. But, I think there is a chance.
But, i think we’ll see Oswalt sign with some one pretty soon (next week or two).
May 19th, 20125:40 pm
What would you give up for JJ right now?
May 19th, 20125:41 pm
Especially knowing he will most likely be nontendered after the season?
I’ll take Jair Jurrjens, thank you.
May 19th, 20125:42 pm
Martinez up in pen.
Well you probably could just trade him to the Red Sox or Yankees for a journey man player
Cab- Good question. I’m pondering at the moment…….
May 19th, 20125:43 pm
Good job there by Delgado. Get him some runs.
May 19th, 20125:44 pm
Why would the Yankees or Sox want him? He’s not pitching well.
May 19th, 20125:46 pm
What about a low A prospect and 1-2 mil of salary for JJ…. Indians took that kind of risk with Lowe, granted he wasn’t as bad as JJ was, but at least JJ has youth on his side.
May 19th, 20125:47 pm
tho I agree, I wouldn’t want to take him on as an opposing GM… I want him to do well, but I don’t think he’s back here…. I really did want him traded this winter
Darth-He’s not been given the opportunity. Even an unnamed player in an article that DOB wrote in Spring Training asked, as far as Medlin was concerned, something to the effect “Is he more valuable pitching one inning or six?” It usually takes about 18 months to be close to 100% after TJ Surgery. He’s past that. Most cases the pitcher is at least as good if not better than before the injury.
Again, if the general consensus is that JJ will be nontendered after the season, why would anyone trade for him?
May 19th, 20125:48 pm
Braves could let J.J. go through arbitration next year, and his knee should be better too. A healthy J.J. can pitch like an “Ace” , but he’s struggling in Triple AAA right now. My view is Braves shouldn’t no tender him , because they would lose out again. Either keep him next year, or hope he pitches solid in triple AAA, so the Braves can trade him mid – season.
May 19th, 20125:49 pm
huge, huge difference between where Lowe was last year and where JJ is right now.
huge, huge difference between where Lowe was last year and where JJ is right now
Which was what I said…
The Rays announcers have been talking about how unfair the Braves inter-league schedule is compared to other teams in the division. Wanted to know if they kicked the schedule makers dog or something.
May 19th, 20125:50 pm
Cab – Some one who’s willing to take a chance like the Yanks, Boston, or Rangers, Angels, Dodgers maybe? My Guess??????
Awww, so nice and caring…. I mean, really, our schedule is BRUTAL.
May 19th, 20125:51 pm
Cobb’s changeup is pretty good.
If only the Braves had cashed in on their early run scoring opportunities. It looks like Cobb is settling down nicely for the Rays.
May 19th, 20125:52 pm
Is this guy Cy Cobb?
I’m really wondering, did the trades for JJ last year all fall through because of his knee? Or because Frank just didn’t want to trade him…. after his knee issue last year, I was worried about him not coming back to form…. seems it’s happened…. just sucks we’re short 5 mil now
May 19th, 20125:53 pm
Cristhian Martinez to pitch 5th for Braves
Why? The Rangers don’t need anything, the Angels don’t need pitching, and the other 3, I doubt would want a struggling pitcher making $5 million this season…
Frank tried like crazy to trade JJ in the off-season.
Hopefully Martinez can keep the Rays at bay.
May 19th, 20125:54 pm
Dmitri Young just sold his Rookie Card Baseball card collection for $2.4 million. When I was a kid collecting cards and autographs in the 50’s and 60’s, my heroes were guys who played for the Atlanta Crackers, so I was more excited to get a card, picture or autograph of Bob Montag or Corky Valentine instead of Ty Cobb or Mickey Mantle. You never heard of Montag or Valentine, right? That was a tragic mistake on my part in hindsight, as it was easy getting autographs and memorabilia from older and retired players back then…they loved the attention and liked to share their stuff. I have hundreds of photos and autographs of Atlanta Cracker and Southern Association players that are pratically worthless, and just think what a Ty Cobb autograph letter or T206 card would sell for today.
I think the issue was that before the break, JJ was our best pitcher, and after the break, he was hurt and untradeable.
May 19th, 20125:55 pm
I like the Rays announcers..can we make a trade?
Bodemister 2-1 in Preakness or I’ll have another? Just a few mins away.
May 19th, 20125:56 pm
Cab – J.J. doesn’t suck totally, and teams like those do take chances. Also, Rockies are in need of pitching badly, and Royals right now. A trade is possible.
May 19th, 20125:57 pm
I never said he sucked. I actually like JJ a lot. I just don’t see a GM making a trade, given his salary & current struggles
I would not trade J.J.to the teams in our Division though………
May 19th, 20125:58 pm
Cab – Wasn’t saying you did. It’s cool………
Looks like they got him…grrrrr
McFann :Ô: :Ô:
HE WAS OUT BY A FRIGGIN’ MILE!!!
May 19th, 20125:59 pm
He was so out. Woulda been if that was Bourn.
May 19th, 20126:00 pm
I loved Bob Montag and his homers on RR track…plus Mike Deprema @ 2b sp? The old wood stands and 10 cent drinks. Corky was also my nickname.
YET ANOTHER EPIC FAIL BY MLB UMPIRES!!! BUD SELIG GET OFF YOUR DEAD REAR-END AND INSTITUTE REPLAY.
Boy, that’s a punk call. We sure got jipped!…
May 19th, 20126:01 pm
A Friggin’ mile!
That’s the other reason why BMac seems to have so many SBs against him…
May 19th, 20126:02 pm
I think the call umpires miss the most are the calls on stolen bases. Braves sure have been on the short end of a few those this season.
Or get some umps that don’t favor home teams……..
May 19th, 20126:03 pm
Should we hit Rhymes to see what he does again?
May 19th, 20126:04 pm
AMERICAN LEAGUE BASEBALL IS SO SLOW OMG
May 19th, 20126:06 pm
I mean, that was unbelievable—never seen a guy more out called safe…
May 19th, 20126:07 pm
He looked safe to me…
May 19th, 20126:08 pm
Chipper not likely to play again before Monday
May 19th, 20126:09 pm
Has Jurrjens ever pitched 200 innings …….Once back in 2009. In order to be an “ACE” you have to eat up innings as well. Jurrjens has not been healthy for a full season since 2009 and he has not pitched with any consistance since June 2011……He is not that good plain and simple because of injuries and because he wont allow himself to rest and rehab. He cant even get AAA hitters out but you people think hes an ACE.
May 19th, 20126:10 pm
Looks like the Braves are not into this game
May 19th, 20126:11 pm
- B. McCann grounded out to first
- J. Heyward grounded out to first
- J. Francisco grounded out to first
- End of Inning (0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Errors)
Braves last 7 batters: 6 groundouts and a strikeout
Isn’t that originally a Buddy Holly song?
Buddy made it famous, but it was written by Sonny West. He should get the credit.
Sonny West – “Rave On”
May 19th, 20126:13 pm
Well there not working the count there getting in that 2011 swing fisrt mentality for this game thus 7 straight retired
“dont worry we got this one”………cabravesfan
hiway61: Frank DiPrima. Corky became an Atlanta police officer after he retired from the game. Buck Riddle, Sammy Meeks, Frank Sacka, Billy “Ace” Reynolds, Country Brown, Poochie Hartsfield. Stan Palys, Bob Hartman, Jack Daniels, etc. Great names from my childhood.
May 19th, 20126:14 pm
J-Man – J.J. Had “Ace” stuff before injuries hit him, so there could be a rebound for next season. Just don’t think Braves should let him go next season. He could still turn it around this season
Dude. Let it go.
Martinez and Durbin give up way too many homeruns.
Gotta win today, or we lose the series, not gonna beat Price tomorrow.
We need Oswalt DOB and you know it
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
