Do you let Beachy go past the 7th if he is still dealing, or get him outta there and keep his overall pitch count down? Seems to me it might be a good night to get some guys an inning of work.

But the old school in me says he gets to keep pitching to get that shutout if it’s still an option.

keylargo

Jerry – Adam LaRoche played a good first base for the Braves in his two stints here. I’m not sure why he never really got much credit, but he was as good as Freddie defensively and he hit too. His second stint here in 09, when he came here with 60 games left, he hit .325/ .401/ .557/ .957 which is good by anyones standards.

KeyLargo,

You are right about LaRoche and his defense. In fact, starting with Sid Bream, we had had some very good first basemen. I just believe that Freeman is a defensive step above the rest. I’m more amazed when he doesn’t snag a poorly thrown ball than when he does. I would hate to see how many errors we’d have without him, especially those low throws from Uggla.

Beachy may not be the ace of this staff, but he has been amazing this year. And if he kept this up the whole year, the Cy Young would find it’s way back home to Atlanta again, and Beachy would be the ace that some think he isn’t.

signing a player to an extension is a gamble. Beachy is an extension candidate. The Braves have to decide whether to buy out the arbitration years and 1 year or free agency now or try to go next year, assuming Beachy does well, and do a 5 year contract buying out 2 years. It is a gamble either way. Sign him this year and risk injury or wait and possibly watch the dollar signs explode if Beachy keeps developing as a pitcher
