Cab – No harm done. That first linked snapped me out of a deep man-crush on Gattis.
It might even keep Murph from leaving his wife and kids. I understand he is blogging with Gattis on an old blog right now. Going to fly out and meet him at a game 17 July.
I’m off to get ready to go to the Trace Adkins “Songs & Stories” concert at the Cobb Performing Arts Center. I’ll be monitoring the game on my phone while I am there. Hugs to all.
Fredi makes some good points – avoiding the big inning has been Minor’s big challenge. During his good run, he did a great job at pitching out of jams and seemed to be over it.
I still think Minor needs to change his approach to hitters the second and third time through the lineup. He has been relatively strong through the first time but then struggles the second and third time through the order.
The Braves know Minor’s psyche better than us. My guess it that Minor would take it really hard getting sent down and may be more counterproductive than helpful which is another reason the Braves will be patient with him here. I wonder if the Braves will get Glavine to talk to Minor. Talking to a starting pitcher about his approach through lineups and getting reassurance from a Hall of Fame lefty who had a rough year or two to start his career would be very helpful
Is Bonafacio related to Victorino? They look alike and have that really annoying factor. Can’t stand either, but at least Victorino is a winner and that other rat is a poser.
My guess it that Minor would take it really hard getting sent down and may be more counterproductive than helpful
There’s only one way to find out… send him down!
If he freaks out and turns into a big pout-pout fish, full of dreary wearies, then he’s too fragile to get the ball every 5 days for the big league club anyways.
Could be a good test for the kid if he’s actually in the Braves’ future plans.
Giancarlo might be the biggest poser of all. What, they change the name of your team and up the Latino culture even more in the offfseason so you suddenly change your name back? They were saying he’s not even of Spanish dedent, that his mom just liked the name. Come on dude.
I don’t think it is pouting like Frenchie Murph. There are always some players that can be ridden hard by a manager and Minor probably is not one. I think he would take it personally and hang his head. If the Braves can turn him around soon and keep him in the lineup it will pay off.
If Minor does not last in the rotation, it would not surprise me to see him go to long relief rather than to the minors
CTB – it is his given first name. I have no problem with Stanton wanting to go by that (though I don’t think he will ever be confused with the first MIke Stanton). He has always signed his autographs Giancarlo Stanton, or at least has since I met him in low A. I can’t remember which Marlin said it but they were right when they said that they will call him whatever Stanton wants if he keeps hitting like he is doing
Murph..Seems like it would be a good idea to then maybe flip Meds and Minor. Would solve both problems. Also, GianCarlo is also Spanish in origin. Gian being John.
Giancarlo is an Italian given name meaning “John Charles”. It is one of the most common masculine given names in Italy and is often short for “Giovanni Carlo”.
Giancarlo Cruz Mike Stanton:
Stanton is of Puerto Rican heritage on his mother’s side and looks up to Iván Rodríguez and Roberto Clemente as his favorite baseball players.[2] To celebrate this, the Marlins will give a Giancarlo Stanton Bobblehead figure to the first 15,000 fans to arrive to the stadium on August 29, 2012, which is Puerto Rican Heritage Night.[3] He also belongs to the Criollos de Caguas in the Puerto Rico Baseball League.
Wellllll………JEEEEEEEZ gals (and guys, too!), you’re making the old lady here think maybe she ought to get stronger glasses or something in order to check these guys out instead of just watching them play ball!
Mike/Giancarlo Stanton is still one of the most impressive 18 year olds I have ever seen play. A man among boys. His low A season was one for the record books

Don..seems the thought process on that one is thus:
1) Give Minor time to work thru his troubles/Meds is too valuable in present spot.
2) Stretch out Meds in the minors then bring up to take Minor’s spot/Who takes Meds place while that occurs?
3) What will happen to Minor if he’s demoted from SP to reliever?/Or can we send him down to work on it and who will be brought up?

Just wondering, but is there such a thing as a performance contingency clause in baseball deals? I mean could the Braves have done their deal with the Indians for Lowe that, based on performance…number innings, wins, ERA, etc…say by the All-Star break, they, Cleveland, would have to take more of his remaining contract or give him back? Right now we could use him and/or the money.

Dirty, I don’t believe that I have ever seen a performance clause other than something related to playing time (innings pitches, plate appearances). I think MLB and even the MLBPA frowns on going to any other type of performance clause.
My wife jjust got a job offer from University of Arizona Law School. Think we’ll stick with the snow and leave the fire ants and 100+ degree temps to Joe Arpayo.
I think it depends on the team and local TV deals (and i don’t know what the rules are, since they are not an issue for me), but, like, if the Rockies have a regional deal, I can see where it would be in their interest to not allow their games to be broadcast on non local channels through Extra Innings or other sources (does that make sense?)

Dirty, I don’t believe that I have ever seen a performance clause other than something related to playing time (innings pitches, plate appearances). I think MLB and even the MLBPA frowns on going to any other type of performance clause.

My wife jjust got a job offer from University of Arizona Law School. Think we’ll stick with the snow and leave the fire ants and 100+ degree temps to Joe Arpayo.

anyone see where mlb is being sued by the fans
over blackout procedures. they sure are excessive.
That’s awesome. I couldn’t believe that Braves games in Houston were blacked out in Austin. That’s a 4 hour drive!

ncgary-
I think it depends on the team and local TV deals (and i don’t know what the rules are, since they are not an issue for me), but, like, if the Rockies have a regional deal, I can see where it would be in their interest to not allow their games to be broadcast on non local channels through Extra Innings or other sources (does that make sense?)

faninva – NO problem. Just a bunch of Mephis Dudes who were probably one of the best unknown hard rock/ souther rock bands of the early 90’s.
