Glad the Braves took the first 2 games in this series to get the series win. I don’t see the Braves sweeping the Cards though as they have a tough offense, and we have Hanson going today. Its hard to sweep a very good team like the Cards as it is, but when you put Tommy Hanson in the mix, I believe today is a loss. Hope I am wrong, but if the Braves do win, it will more than likely be because of the Braves offense and not Hanson’s arm.
Yeah nolie, I thought Tommy was okay – but those last two innings he was getting too cute and throwing a lot of pitches high or outside. He needs to trust his stuff more and challenge hitters.
nolie: living up here in Cards/Cubs land, I have to say that there is no better baseball town and no better fanbase than the Cards. They are true lovers of the game. Class organization, classy players, classy fans all the way.
….I have nothing but the utmost respect for the St. Louis fans this weekend. That was the classiest act I have ever seen from an opposing team, and if I weren’t such a hardcore Braves fan I might even root for them………
…..but I am not and I am glad we beat their asses for stealing the playoffs from us, so….
Brave from frozen tundra land (MN): I agree, and having seen many such acts of generosity and appreciation over the years, I have come to be a closet Cards fan. Very hard to admit when you’ve been a Braves and Cubs fan for all your life, But it’s hard to root against such a great organization.
nolie: okay, now I see – we’re dripping with sarcasm. No fanbase I despise more than the Phillies. Take away cheesesteaks, Yeungling beer, Rocky, and the Liberty Bell, and there’s just not much love for the city or their fans.
It sure was nice that St.Louis had Chipper’s number 10 cut into the grass at Busch Stadium. It was a real classy touch for his last trip to St.Louis,it was good of him to play in all 3 games .Give the fans their money’s worth.
I bet you when the new power rankings come out on ESPN tomorrow, the Braves will only move up one spot, despite going 7-2 on the road with two very impressive sweeps.
Go suck it ESPN…..the Braves are awesome this year!
don’t forget that they’ve lost bullpen depth with Lidge and Storen still on DL – though Rodriquez is doing a pretty good job closing. And Zimmerman just coming off DL and not quite 100%.
IlliniBrave – They still have a good team over there. With Harper leaving a good first impression and guys like Desmond, LaRoche, etc. Zimmerman at 70% is better than what have of NL teams have to offer at the pos.
But good chance for the Braves to make their move for the 1st place spot, and maybe even run away with it, just a little. That way, if the guys start slumping at some point, a worst case scenario would be 1st place tie or 2nd place..
from the middle of the 1st to the middle of the 5th, Tommy had his best stuff of the season. He hit a wall in the 5th though. Still, something he can build on hopefully.
…I would love to be nice to ESPN, but they have shown time and time again that they have no respect for any team coming out of the state of Georgia and they need to be called out. I know that our teams have let us down alot, but they never give us any credit for all the good things our teams do.
Carroll, can you tell DOB, now that we’ve beaten Adam Wainwright and the previously unbeaten Lance Lynn and Roy Halladay, never to utter another word about the last place Cubs and their supposedly stellar pitching staff.
If they were any good they’d be somewhere other than last place.
Great sweep, but the Reds are coming, and they have Jay Bruce, and Joey Votto, and solid pitching. Also, can score lots of runs. Braves need to keep playing hard, and not light up.
We need to get more consistant starters………No one seems to be able to throw 7, 8, or 9 innings when needed. We might need to make a phone call to Roy Oswalt.
Roy Oswalt, who hasn’t pitched this year?? How long do you think it would take him to be ready to throw 7 innings? If he signed tomorrow, he MIGHT be ready by the break.
Well right now all we have is Beachy that can go 7 and probably Hudson…….thats it. So I would take a Oswalt right now over Mike Minor, Delgado and Tommy Hanson. Neither are bad pitcher but they have trouble getting out of innings 4-6.
And how much are you willing to pay him for half a season? Because he won’t come cheap, no matter how much he plays. (also, where do you get the money?)
We right now are stacked with a bunch of number4/5 starters……Minor, Hanson, Delgado, Teheran, and Jurrjens……We need at least 1 more consistant starter to take the NL. We need a guy that can give you 7 innings and keep an ERA under 3.25.Maybe Medlen shouldshould get the chance to start I don’t know but I do know there is a proven commodity in Roy Oswalt and if you signed him now it would take 3 or 4 minor league starts for him to be Major League ready.
Oswalt cant go 1 ???????? Are you serious? Oswalt could give 5 right now coming off the street. I know he has bak problems but thats not why he isnt on a team he is just waiting his time for a contender to sign him
You are assuming all of those things about Oswalt, but that doesn’t mean they would happen. Besides, we’re doing ok with what we have now. And with all the teams that need starting pitching, doesn’t it make you wonder why he’s still available?
I didnt list Beachy because he is our ACE im talking about the 3, 4, and 5 spots. And every pitcher except for Beachy has been inconsistant. I believe Hudson will be Tim Hudson, but there are question marks about the rest of the Starters on the club and in the minors……and none of them seem to be able to make it to the 7th inning DOB…..Even you can admit that.
— Mitchell
I’m glad you addressed that to me through Carroll. Until you learn considerably more about baseball, I’d prefer that you continue to use an intermediary.
The main thing is we need to not run out of bullets like we have the last 2 years. 2 years ago we ran out of offensive players, with Derek Lee Glaus, and Prado getting hurt, and last year we ran out of pitching with O’Ventabrel being over worked and the starters not getting it done and depending on Derek Lowe to pitch. And with no other start beside Beachy showing consistancey, our Bullpen will once again be asked to pitch extra needless innings.
With Oswalt you have a true number 2 pitcher that can give you number 1 performances and will eat up innings and not get lit up. I believe he would be a perfect fit for the Braves.
