And you’re right, nolie, I’m spoiled. Looking at Furcal today…even whathisname from last year…
good call/advice Joe……………………….
at least it was a solo shot
May 13th, 20124:24 pm
I knew he was going to do that.
joe is right, but it is still funny
Stupid Ross called for that pitch.
Hanson won’t be able to get 6 innings. Great stuff just can’t buckle down. He is averaging less than 6 per start on the season. And it begins.
6th inning blues.
Hanson quickly sinking into the abyss…sigh.
GET HIM OUT!!
May 13th, 20124:25 pm
theres that injury prone beltran again. he probably wont get more than 50 this year before that knee makes him miss 5 games
Bring in Chad Durbin.
He’ll put this fire out.
It is time to lift Hanson, he gave the Braves 5 good innings.
May 13th, 20124:26 pm
Cue the lunatic fringe…
so much for Heath Bell regaining the closer’s job in Miami….
Gave up 2 runs to the Mets in the 9th (it was a tie game before Bell).
Never to fear, the Mets closer Francisco is worse – promptly gave back the runs
Hanson is done, get him out…
Tommy’s out of gas. Looked tired last inning.
I can see a 3-3 scoreboard in the near future…
May 13th, 20124:27 pm
it means that he is not as bad as some of y’all think since you have been watching three top of the line defenders the last few years. he is an acceptable SS, yes simmons will be better, but best for him to have stayed in the minors and continued to improve since he is the likely long term starter
No, please no Durbin! He got lucky the other night. He had given up 5 HRs in his last 12 innings pitched before that.
The A Bomb
Wonder if Hanson has Comiskey flashbacks where EVERYONE looks like Carlos Quentin?
This is a high-leverage situation that calls for the best reliever, but no chance Gonzalez uses that strategy. He will bring in his worst reliever because it is the 6th inning.
Braves need to vary the pitches and approaches more as they go through the lineup. Minor was the same thing 2 nights ago. Everything just seems too predictable by the 3rd time through the lineup
see this is what happens when you get cocky about a sweep
Durbin!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! GOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need comfort snacks to assist me through this dark inning…
May 13th, 20124:28 pm
We agree, nolie. Now, could Simmons have gotten either one of those last two hits?
no worries we are safe, Durbin is coming in….
Well this is a typical Fredi move….3 hits on 3 bad pitches (so, luck) and in comes….Durbin. I hope Chad makes me eat my words…
Yes….time for a large Snickers
May 13th, 20124:29 pm
It would be nice not to lose this game since we took control of it early.
Kind of looked like we might add on but we haven’t.
A three run lead is not much of a lead against anybody.
DURBIN? WUT THE F!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is times like this that make me want to smack some sense into Gonzalez. Durbin is the worst pitcher in MLB and he is pitching in a high-leverage situation simply because Gonzalez uses pitchers based upon their roles.
Why would any team pay big for BJ Upton? He has had 1 big season and has gone downhill since. He went 0-4 today with 4Ks. .257/.317/.400 – terrible line for the season
no way to know
Of course Tommy is tired….
Not in good enough shape…..too much partying….red faced, chubby.
Decent outing though….getting better.
May 13th, 20124:30 pm
What’s the matter Phil? You can dish it out, but can’t take it. You were mocking my name, I was giving you a dose of your own medicine. Hypocrite
nice catch Michael….
Wish we had some of that sun in the southeast.
Freese, no other guy i hate more in baseball since last october..
I guess that was better than two singles then the hommer.
May 13th, 20124:31 pm
Smartest thing FG has done all year, one out by Durbin and get him out of there!
Didn’t have to use the ‘big’ pen pitchers yesterday—oh, now he has a plan more mentally sound.
Manny Acosta gives up a grand slam – Marlins win…
Why did Fredo concede this game? Are all the arms in the ‘pen used up but for Durbin?
Good, Fredi only used Durbin for one batter. Now it is time for O’Flaherty to pitch well in a tight situation.
Join Durbin’s Dude Fan Club.
Chad does his job….again.
He would have stayed in except for his pitch count.
what was Fredi supposed to do? bring in Kimbrel?
No time like the present to start micromanaging your ‘pen.
Phil you made me LOL
Durbin silences the angry and the disillusioned and the…..haters.
And the realistic, frankly.
Part of me is wondering if Fredi has a “Managing Baseball for Dummies” book there in the dugout. Sometimes he makes moves that really cause you to scratch your head. And the overuse of the bullpen continues….
May 13th, 20124:32 pm
phil – i still think TOmmy is gaining stamina from his injury and lack of throwing in the offseason.
I also don’t think he tired as much as the Braves need to work on varying approaches to hitters especially as we get to the 3rd time through the lineup
Never mind. Fredi just used the Gas Can for one batter. No concession after all. Just playing with dynamite.
toldja we was safe with the Durbinator
May 13th, 20124:33 pm
Now I’m worried about meself, I just used the words “smartest” and “FG” in the same sentence. My Bad!
do we have an off day tomorrow for the pen to work?
Nice L-R thing to encourage the Cards to bring in Holliday
May 13th, 20124:34 pm
Nobravesknowledge – use something that isn’t over the line.
Phil, you just never know what you’re going to get with Durbin….same with EO’F…or Venters….or even Kimbrel. The Big 3 were overused last year and at least one will probably break down before the end of the year. I doubt any will repeat their numbers from last year.
overuse of the bullpen continues?? i don’t get some of you people. Maybe that is a good thing.
Good job, EOF!
Nice EOF—very clutch bro.
It would be a step in the right direction. Use your best relievers in the highest leverage times.
as I said, way to “trick” the cards into bringing in Holliday. Yeah Right!
Great pitch EOF – we have missed that version of EOF
May 13th, 20124:35 pm
That’s the best back foot slider EOF has thrown all season.
Guess that settles that on TP!
And there’s the pathetic error i was waiting for…
Send the bum to Gwinnett!
ok, maybe that one was hard to watch
P-nick falls down a lot.
This defensive crap with Tyler has to stop—we got to have championship talent @SS!!!!!!!!
May 13th, 20124:36 pm
Eric is not da man this year so far
That was below average.
Pastornicky’s defense is really costly. That ball needs to fielded and turned into an out.
hahaha. I wish y’all could here my 85 y/o moms commentary. She’s watching the game with me.
Her: “Now, where they get Pastorini from?”
Me: “Minor league.”
Her: “I wondered…”
here go da game
May 13th, 20124:37 pm
I think Fredi figures that you can blow stuff up and put out a fire (use up all the oxygen in the area). So, sometimes Gas Can can put a fire out.
Kimbrel in the 7th?
No PedoPhil, you either treat me with respect, or get no respect at all. Just because I am positive about the Braves and don’t freak out everytime something goes wrong, gives you no right to attack me. If you can’t handle it, leave.
May 13th, 20124:38 pm
No shortstop! We need one badly!
Come on Eric.
Don’t let some guy named Tyler Green or whatever it is beat you.
Indeed, the Rev cost us the game…
Pastornicky dodges the error, but Hanson is on the hook for the two runners on 2nd and 3rd, should they cross the plate.
filthy, that is the old EOF right there
It’s the 6th, Phil!
But, yes, I could make a case to use him now
May 13th, 20124:39 pm
Great pitch calling by Ross!!!
Good stuff, EOF.
@Lawton, apparently you didn’t watch the Braves bullpen falter down the stretch last year (with the exception of EOF)….nor have you seen the result this year (EOF already given up as many ER as he had all last year, Venters already needing to take two weeks off due to arm soreness, not counting the week he had to take off in spring training). If the Braves get more than 6 innings from a starter, it’s a miracle. Fredi is quick with that hook. At the end of the year, our bullpen will lead the league in innings and/or appearances, and we’ll have 2 guys in the top 5 in those categories.
Couch Tater, that was a good one, bless your mom. Will never ever forget Dan Pastorini. Loved to watch him play.
O’Flaherty looked the best he has all season in that inning.
huge, huge outing by EOF. Hope he has another inning in him.
That is the EOF we need to play in October. Venters – hope he is taking notes
X's and O's
Chipper said in Chicago that you can live by the shift (in a win) and die with the shift) in a loss.
Braves are gonna live with Paster (offense) and die with Paster(defense)
@Couch Tater….:)great post:)
That was ‘11 EOF. Hope it’s the beginning….
EOF looked like himself today….attaboy!
Couchtater – tell mom that phil wishes her a happy mother’s day! Sounds like a great gal.
May 13th, 20124:40 pm
I can now breath normally.. for the moment…
Get more runs for God’s sake!
Phew … dangerous situation. Good job by Durbin and O’Flaherty.
Now, how to cover the last three innings. I’m guessing we’ll be smoking some Livan before this game is over.
the Twins starting pitching is awful. The Rockies are hurting as well. HOpefully as we get more and more into the season, teams will get desparate enough for pitching they will start looking the Braves way.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
