Hanson won’t be able to get 6 innings. Great stuff just can’t buckle down. He is averaging less than 6 per start on the season. And it begins.

Bring in Chad Durbin.
He’ll put this fire out.

so much for Heath Bell regaining the closer’s job in Miami….

Gave up 2 runs to the Mets in the 9th (it was a tie game before Bell).

Never to fear, the Mets closer Francisco is worse – promptly gave back the runs

it means that he is not as bad as some of y’all think since you have been watching three top of the line defenders the last few years. he is an acceptable SS, yes simmons will be better, but best for him to have stayed in the minors and continued to improve since he is the likely long term starter

iTiSi

No, please no Durbin! He got lucky the other night. He had given up 5 HRs in his last 12 innings pitched before that.

Wonder if Hanson has Comiskey flashbacks where EVERYONE looks like Carlos Quentin?

Tomahawk Mafia

This is a high-leverage situation that calls for the best reliever, but no chance Gonzalez uses that strategy. He will bring in his worst reliever because it is the 6th inning.

brian

May 13th, 2012
4:27 pm

Braves need to vary the pitches and approaches more as they go through the lineup. Minor was the same thing 2 nights ago. Everything just seems too predictable by the 3rd time through the lineup

It would be nice not to lose this game since we took control of it early.

Kind of looked like we might add on but we haven’t.

A three run lead is not much of a lead against anybody.

DURBIN? WUT THE F!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHY DURBIN?????

Tomahawk Mafia

May 13th, 2012
4:29 pm

It is times like this that make me want to smack some sense into Gonzalez. Durbin is the worst pitcher in MLB and he is pitching in a high-leverage situation simply because Gonzalez uses pitchers based upon their roles.

Why would any team pay big for BJ Upton? He has had 1 big season and has gone downhill since. He went 0-4 today with 4Ks. .257/.317/.400 – terrible line for the season

JNick

May 13th, 2012
4:31 pm

Part of me is wondering if Fredi has a “Managing Baseball for Dummies” book there in the dugout. Sometimes he makes moves that really cause you to scratch your head. And the overuse of the bullpen continues….

brian

May 13th, 2012
4:32 pm

phil – i still think TOmmy is gaining stamina from his injury and lack of throwing in the offseason.

I also don’t think he tired as much as the Braves need to work on varying approaches to hitters especially as we get to the 3rd time through the lineup

abeeewright

May 13th, 2012

Never mind. Fredi just used the Gas Can for one batter. No concession after all. Just playing with dynamite.

JNick

Phil, you just never know what you’re going to get with Durbin….same with EO’F…or Venters….or even Kimbrel. The Big 3 were overused last year and at least one will probably break down before the end of the year. I doubt any will repeat their numbers from last year.

JNick

@Lawton, apparently you didn’t watch the Braves bullpen falter down the stretch last year (with the exception of EOF)….nor have you seen the result this year (EOF already given up as many ER as he had all last year, Venters already needing to take two weeks off due to arm soreness, not counting the week he had to take off in spring training). If the Braves get more than 6 innings from a starter, it’s a miracle. Fredi is quick with that hook. At the end of the year, our bullpen will lead the league in innings and/or appearances, and we’ll have 2 guys in the top 5 in those categories.

the Twins starting pitching is awful. The Rockies are hurting as well. HOpefully as we get more and more into the season, teams will get desparate enough for pitching they will start looking the Braves way.
