Is Chipper playing today?
Need to set fantasy lineup…
May 13th, 201211:37 am
No, Chipper isn’t playing today.
May 13th, 201211:38 am
Happy Mothers Day to all the moms out there.
Gil – In case you missed it…
Braves’ Jones deserves farewell fanfare
May 13th, 201211:39 am
just because I bench him, he will prob hit a pinch hit granny
Cardinals Sunday lineup: Furcal 6, Jay 8, Beltran 9, Craig 7, Berkman 3, Freese 5, Descalso 4, Cruz 2, Lynn 1.
May 13th, 201211:41 am
Shoot, I was hoping Carlos was getting a day off too.
May 13th, 201211:43 am
I have not seen much on JJ lately.I would be very thankful for any info that I get .I also don’t understand why The Braves are willing to let our CF and lead-off hitter walk.We need him more than we need to sign other players to long term contracts They also need to give Prado a long term deal also.I look at Infante in Fla and Escabor in Canada and I am tired of letting these type of players get away!Go Braves
in that case, for the greater good, you should always bench him..
May 13th, 201211:45 am
Infante wasn’t let go, he brought us Uggla
Gil in Mechanicsville
May 13th, 201211:46 am
Coach (2012 Fredi’s Beisbol Fandango) Just remember, Dodge’s numbers are being put up against Triple A pitching. All decisions of player personnel next year are relative how much Liberty Media is willing to loosen the purse strings….
Carlos Beltran is now the player the Mets thought they paid for. Goes to show you the difference in playing hurt and playing injured. The Cards paid him a pretty good price but it was short term. In two years they can look for another free agent to take a chance on.
Most GMs don’t mind paying a guy a big salary as long as they are not committed to it for more than a couple of years. What kills a payroll is being stuck with a guy who is not producing and still has lots of time left on the deal (see Derreck Lowe)
May 13th, 201211:47 am
That’s a cool article and very true. I like the following line:
“Too many knuckleheads have Hall of Fame ballots, but Chipper’s resume is knucklehead proof.”
Classic. Chipper has the highest OPS of any 3rd baseman. Ever. Chipper is the only 3rd baseman with a slash line of .300/.400/.500. Ever. Pretty much, ’nuff said.
May 13th, 201211:49 am
jj – We didn’t let Escobar get away. We sent him away, with a firm boot planted up his patootie, as it should have been. Look up jerk in the dictionary. That’s his picture next to it.
May 13th, 201211:51 am
I don’t know if you know this or not, but Chipper IS 40, so he’s gonna look like a 40 year old at times. Last night was also the first time this season where he struck out more than once in a game….blockhead. Thanks for your time
May 13th, 201212:00 pm
Jurrjens is 2-1 in 3 games at Gwinnnett. He has pitched 22 innings, struck out 9, walked five and has a 1.00 WHIP with 17 hits in those 22 IP.
Not so sure we can even tell which one is better between Durango or Constanza, much less consider making wither our CFer next year.
Constanza – ..340, .420, .437 with 4 2B, 3 3B, 15 BB, 16K, 7 SB and 0CS
Durango – .276, ..349, ..351, with 6 2B, 2 3B, 15BB, 28K (yikes), 19 SB and 3CS

“……A writer for MLBTRADERUMORS is an advocate of giving Beachy an extension. Does anyone have any thought on this? Is it too early for this kind of talk or is he the real deal?……”
I watched BEACHY in regard to his avowed intent to cut down on wasted pitches and get hitters out with ground balls instead of SO’s. At least through the first three innings it worked very well. Seemed he reverted a bit as he went through the line-up repeatedly, and he flagged just a bit in the later innings, but I thought for sure he’d come out for the bottom of the seventh. I guess FREDI knew the gas-can was near empty after six, however.
We’re seeing a progression of an excellent control pitcher with some giggy-up on his fastball morph from a thrower to a pitcher. When he completes the journey, he’s going to be a lights out hutrler in my estimation. Sign him to an extension now? I would.
JasonInMainetoFL – I liked that line, too. Started to post it myself.
May 13th, 201212:04 pm
Excuse me – JJ is 2-0 in 3 games at Gwinnett.
May 13th, 201212:06 pm
Francoeur has zero HR. That’s a little surprising.
May 13th, 201212:08 pm
GIL in MECHANICSVILLE
Top of the afternoon to ya’ GIL. The best to your good wife on Mother’s Day.
May 13th, 201212:10 pm
I want to see JJ’s WHIP disappear below 1.00 and stay there for awhile.

The Broomeister May 13th, 2012 9:31 am I bet nobody even remembers the super, duper, over the back with your right foot tied behind your back CHOKE the braves pulled to get St Louis in the playoffs (and an eventual World Championship). Couch Tater, here’s to hoping it’s true. Chipper is a 1st ballot HOF.
May 13th, 201212:17 pm
Nice article Couch Tater.
Durango is most likely trying something different in the batter’s box by his high amount of K’s. Feel bad for the guy, he only owns a 300/400 avg/obp line in the minors, must have to do something else to get a chance. Even clearly earning a job in spring training isn’t enough.
May 13th, 201212:19 pm
I like to see JJ’s velo come up a tick and have his K/9 go up, especially against AAA hitters.
May 13th, 201212:20 pm
I want DOB’s job!
Flies to a nice city, watches a game, meets the players afterward for a few quotes, types it all up in about 20-30 mnutes, hits send, does the same the next day, takes a few days off every few days and hands it over to Carroll, and gets a 3-4 month break in the off-season. — Larry
No, it only takes us about 10-15 minutes to write. And it’s 4-1/2 months off in offseason. Nothing to cover between last pitch of regular season and first pitch of spring training.
Thanks for understanding our jobs, Larry. Enjoy.
May 13th, 201212:22 pm
Larry – Try pulling your head out of your intestinal cavity.
May 13th, 201212:23 pm
Are the Braves planning to call up George Constanza?…..That’s why they sign Pie?
May 13th, 201212:26 pm
I’d love to be a baseball or football blogger/writer. Just wouldn’t be into the traveling part and so on.
May 13th, 201212:29 pm
The Braves signed Pie? Journalist Jimmy Smih would be thrilled. He always like Pie. And Pie.
May 13th, 2012
Very unlikely that we win today.
We are going aganist statistically MLB’s best pitcher in Lynn. Add to that we won’t have either Jones or Mac in the lineup. We have Hanson going who is our number 4 guy at the moment and hasn’t pitched a gem lately. Also don’t forget we are going up aganist one of the best offenses in MLB.
So lets not get our hopes too high for today. 2/3 not bad
Do you read the blog before posting??
The good news is that Carlos Beltran is 0-for-10 against Hanson, and Matt Holliday, Jon Jay and Yadier Molina are a combined 0-for-9 against him.
May 13th, 201212:30 pm
Yeah, disregard how many days in a row he works. The red eye flights. The hassle at the airports. The getting into the next city at 3a. The number of nights under or around 3 to 4 hours of sleep or the long days. Sure, the job has some perks. But, seriously, let’s not pretend it is all gravy.
There used to be a website called “GreatestJournal” Back in highschool I used to write about sports daily on there. I’d just give my opinion about the moves teams were making and stuff like that. I remember writing a really long entry when Greg Maddux surprisingly accepted ARB and we were forced to trade Kevin Millwood cause of money. Good old times. So this site is perfect for what I like to do in my spare time.
Lance Berkman was activated from the DL for the Cardinals and is batting fifth today.
Braves lineup: 1. Bourn CF, 2. Prado LF, 3. Freeman 1B, 4. Uggla 2B, 5. Heyward RF, 6. Francisco LF, 7. Ross C, 8. Pastornicky SS, 9. Hanson P.
Scheduled day off for Chipper and McCann, day game after night game and 20 games in a row stretch.
May 13th, 201212:31 pm
DOB The guy is just another clueless blogger…. Likely would love to have any job that did not entail him actually having to get out of his pajamas but then his poor mom would have to wash more of his cloths for him.
The vast majority deeply appreciate the hard work you and your cohorts put in to keep us, the masses, informed and often amused in all things Braves. Thanks…
May 13th, 201212:35 pm
Looks like he’s a banned blogger now.
May 13th, 201212:36 pm
ah, jjmartin, makes me laugh a little. have a feeling if he didn’t know i was a woman, he wouldn’t be able to tell the difference in the writing. and trust me when i say he wouldn’t want to read my cookbook. ask my beau. he’s the cook in our couple.
Haggard, thanks for the lyrics. ….baseball does a great job honoring moms and you can tell how important it is to guys like Bourn and Prado and McCann, talking about it this morning. There was pink everywhere….and to all the women who’ve battled breast cancer, keep up the good fight and many blessings.
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY! to all Moms.
May 13th, 201212:37 pm
Actually, today’s line up is good enough to win, just not sure how many runs they will have to score to do it. And maybe we will get lucky and Berkman will be rusty…
richbrave Thanks, same to your lovely bride.
May 13th, 201212:44 pm
Carroll Do women even write cookbooks any more? Worse, do people actually buy them? I mean geez, how hard is it to turn the dial to warm up left over pizza?
May 13th, 201212:45 pm
Opps…. did not mean to bold the whole thing…
May 13th, 201212:47 pm
Good win last night. BEACHY is becomeing ace of staff. Sunday lineup today but understand resting BRIAN and CHIPPER, also chipper my have a bit of a sore foot, looked like that hurt last night.
May 13th, 201212:48 pm
Nick, bless your heart. It’s not worth it, whatever makes you such an unhappy person. Believe me.
Go Braves!! Sweep!!!!!
May 13th, 201212:53 pm
Often wondered about DOB’s sweetheart contract.
May 13th, 201212:54 pm
I have been to both games this weekend and going today! Let me say this it has been an amazing 2 nights of baseball and hoope todays is the same! I just want to thank David Ross for makin my night friday night. Sweep them Cards today!!
May 13th, 201212:56 pm
Most any job gets old. A baseball writers, if not a huge fan of the team he/she is covering, would seem to get real old.
May 13th, 201212:58 pm
Two LFers and no 3RD BASEMAN, now that is some shift. ONLY KIDDING CARROLL YOU DO A GREAT JOB.
and I’m sure DOB isn’t a fan of the Braves. I’m sure he likes the players and coaches, but you can tell he’s not painting tomahawks on his cheeks.
May 13th, 20121:00 pm
Francisco ain’t that bad. I was surprised in a few at bats against some lefties to focus on left field and he did it. He’s alright, nothing to whine too uch about.
May 13th, 20121:01 pm
No way this lineup wins today. But hey, I’ve been wrong before….
May 13th, 20121:04 pm
We had a sweep last Sunday, with Sunday lineup.
May 13th, 20121:05 pm
But of course this is STL today.
May 13th, 20121:09 pm
Where did everyone go? Still over a hour till gametime.
May 13th, 20121:10 pm
DOB I cringed when I read Larry’s comments because I knew you were going to blast him, but, the response was far more gentle than I imagined. It can’t be said enough how much we appreciate what you and Carroll do everyday. I’ve been a fan since ‘66 and would have loved to read a blog like this to hear comments from Horner, Claudell, Aaron, Dusty, Garr etc. Its fun and I thank you. Happy Mothers Day to all and Mom its been 3 years since you’ve been gone and I wish I could hug you today.
McFann :Ô: :Ô:
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms and Moms-to-be out there!! Hope you have a great day!
Ms. Rogers baseball does a great job honoring moms and you can tell how important it is to guys like Bourn and Prado and McCann, talking about it this morning.

Well if Wilson Ramos has a torn ACL then he is dine for the season…….I expect Ivan Rodriguez to get a call, so maybe he can still get to 3000 hits
May 13th, 20121:17 pm

“DOB The guy is just another clueless blogger…. Likely would love to have any job that did not entail him actually having to get out of his pajamas but then his poor mom would have to wash more of his cloths for him.”
I don’t want to defend the guy, but in his first post, it seems to be pretty clear that his mom has passed away. Try to lay off of the mom insults, Gil.
May 13th, 20121:22 pm
Last thing we need is Lew writing off the Phillies, kiss of death. Every year they are too old, can’t hit. Don’t comment Lew! Just revel in their demise right now.
May 13th, 20121:31 pm
My points about the Stereroid Era is that we shouldnt just exclude because of stereroids and just act like the stereroid era never happened I feel that the ENTIRE history should be accounted for and players that made contributions should still be honored. While its unfortunate that players took stereroids, I cant blame any players doing it if it could mean earn a multimillion dollar contract and to be able to provide for their family for generations. It wasnt illegal in MLB until 2005 and it took Jose Canseco to “Blow the whistle” before anyone looked at it and the congressional investigations before anyone believed it and until the Mitchell report until people had names. Plain and simple the “Baseball Reporters”, these SAME baseball with the “MORAL AUTHORITY” tonow keep players out did nothing because it ment people read their articles and bought their books on the amazing Home Runs. Remember “Chicks dig the long ball”, everyone was profiting off the Home Runs but now we have the phoney sports reporters now excluding a lot players like Jeff Bagwell because he worked out a lot and never actually had a positive stereroid test…….Its just a witch hunt.
May 13th, 20121:36 pm
Great Blog Ms. Rogers and wish your mother a Happy Mother’s day from me as well
Bravos on TBS today happy mothersday to everyone
May 13th, 20121:37 pm
My wonderful son had gotten us tickets for the Gwinnett Braves’ game for Mother’s Day because our Braves are on the road and I’ve never been to Coolray Field. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate and the game has been rained out. So, I guess we will be watching the Braves’ game on TV. Doesn’t matter, as long as I get to spend time with him. I’m gonna really miss the young man when he goes off to law school in August. Tearing up just thinking about it…
May 13th, 20121:45 pm
No crying in baseball…..hit it for twenty!
HEH! Congrats on the law school future. All the best.
May 13th, 20121:47 pm
derek k : “I just want to thank David Ross for makin my night friday night. Settin on the leftcenter front wall surrounded by cards fans I waved at him and he waved back, might not seem like much but it meant alot. So Thanks David. ”
I wish more players (hope you read this, JHey) would realize that just a smile and a wave to the fans means a lot. We realize that you can’t come over and sign for everyone who wants you to, but you could treat us all like fellow human beings who are excited to see you, who came to the game to watch you and are spending their hard-earned money to be there.
Look up, smile and wave. How hard is that?
A big and a big “wave” to all you Moms out there!!
May 13th, 20121:51 pm
I’m not a mom, but I am so happy I went for a baby dedication at a different church this morning. Our friends dedicated their adopted baby boy, my little A.J., this morning. I may not be a mother, but I am the world’s best aunt (just ask my niece!) and I am so happy Sandy and Jason are allowing me to play that role for A.J.
So, Happy Mother’s Day to all of those of you that are moms or moms-to-be no matter how far in the future that may be. Mommies make the world go round.
It’s really a hard day for me to celebrate, having lost my mom 8+ years ago, but I hope everyone who still has their mom will remember to call her today. We’ll be calling my husband’s mother, whom I proudly call “Mom”, later today. Grateful I have her.
May 13th, 20121:52 pm
Any idea where I might be able to dig up info on current survivors who served with the 77th Infantry Division [1569 Depot Engineer battalion] and my uncle. He received two Purple Hearts, one on SAIPAN and the other along with a Bronze Star in the PHILLIPINES [Leyte]. I’ve just had no luck on the internet. One site suggested the Library of Congress. Can’t seem to find a survivors site. Probably should have started this quest 25 years ago when he passed.
May 13th, 20121:54 pm
Thank you, rich. I’ll get right on that twenty… beers, that is.
On second thought, 20 might be a bit much. 19 oughta do it.
BMac waved at me once… (Marcus Giles waved at us once, too…that was hilarious…)
Awl, congrats! And sorry to read about your Mom… Dad lost his Mother almost 5 years ago…so, so sad…

Chipper’s numbers seem a lot lower in the third and fourth games in a row, so having him out of the lineup today is not a huge deal.
May 13th, 20122:00 pm
I used to injest copious amounts of alcohol as a youngster. Can’t fault my two sons-in-law much on that account. I did start to taper off a bit as I approached forty however.
Just one beer, and I had to sit down here for a bit to sober up. Hic!
May 13th, 20122:01 pm
Thanx BRAVA. Enjoy the game.
May 13th, 20122:03 pm
You too, rich. You’re welcome.
May 13th, 20122:04 pm
Danged # not in service. Same thing happened to me previously. Thanx anyway.
May 13th, 20122:05 pm
Furcal and Wainwright made presentation to Chipper…
May 13th, 20122:07 pm
Smoltz on the TBS broadcast…
Nice to have the former Braves do that for Chipper.
May 13th, 20122:08 pm
Kevin Millwood just got his 2000th K vs Granderson…
Sorry, rich. I guess you could try snail mail.
May 13th, 20122:09 pm
TBS is showing HLN weekend express…..TV guide shows Braves vs Cards WTF???

Bravefaninok – it is on TBS out here…
May 13th, 20122:12 pm
“The Duck” is dead? Bummer. RIP Don Dunn
also an alcohol lightweight…..I’m fine with that.
May 13th, 20122:13 pm
Happy Day to all Mothers….may wonderful blessings come your way. I just went out to the garage and checked the broom closet…found one behind the H/W/H….fully stocked and really to go…sweep ‘em Bravos–Go Tommy; you are due.

Get the brooms out.
May 13th, 20122:17 pm
Everyone…pitchers on the Cards seem to hurl 93-94!
Bourn is having a helluva season.
May 13th, 20122:18 pm
Great AB by Bourn already regardless of what happens.
We all need to be Bourn.
Yes, VaBravesFan……yes he is!

Pitchout? Did this happen much at the start of last season? Differential of Michael.
Love the patience so far, running the pitch count up quickly.
