CraZy – If Mrs. CraZy puts up with that….well that explains why you are so happy.
raleigh…. My wife would be pissed if she read this blog!!
prado did a very nice job leading off one year not too long ago
…and would still be the best option on this team next year, without a Bourn or someone of his ilk.
May 8th, 20124:42 pm
Yeah, but he also took a pee break before the ninth inning, much to the awe of everyone in baseball.
Yup. He was asked about it in the post-game interview and said he just had to. So much for superstition, huh.
We couldn’t hit a nerf football. Just wasn’t our night
Dempster’s not going to be a walk in the park, he can deal. Hope the rook has good stuff tonight .
Bat Prado leadoff.
dump Bourn to 8th….he clearly can’t hit.
Move Rev up to 2.
May 8th, 20124:44 pm
And fire FG!!
Made me laugh, BAS.
May 8th, 20124:46 pm
Some advantages with Prado 1st & Bourn 2nd:
If Prado gets on less likely for GIDP.
The sac bunt could actually create runners on 1st/2nd with no out.
Could reduce stolen base attemps for Bourn
Lefty/lefty if Freeman is hitting 3rd
Leave Chipper on the list, Crazy…
He changes his mind soon and reups for 30 million.
Well if the plan works and Chipper sits every other game and hits a HR or gets 5 RBI the game after he sits. I’d be fine with that!!

I’m a Durbin. No turbin.
I’m white, and a baller.
Think LeBron, but smaller.
I’m gettin’ old.
Still strike you out cold.
I got three pitches.
Wait did I just use RBI in a comment?? Forget I said that!!!!
May 8th, 20124:48 pm
Bourn’s not batting anywhere but leadoff.
I said that Durbin would be a terrible signing. I am so glad to be proven right once again no matter how badly it affects the Braves…
May 8th, 20124:49 pm
I lol’d at the durbin poem.
May 8th, 20124:50 pm
but wait…i thought that before michael bourn, the Braves havent had a “true leadoff hitter” since rafael furcal!?!
May 8th, 20124:52 pm
Bat the pitcher 8th, Prado 9th, Bourn 1st. Problem solved!
said that Durbin would be a terrible signing. I am so glad to be proven right once again no matter how badly it affects the Braves…
Pretty much took a huge leap of faith on that one with a guy with 5. ERA didn’t ya!
Nolie’s hate leeching out in the water again…
May 8th, 20124:53 pm
I’ve got a poem too:
Roses are red
Bacon is also red,
Poems are hard.
well he’s not a “treu” leadoff hitter due to lack of speed, but he still did a pretty effective job
I need a haircut…
May 8th, 20124:54 pm
Who cares if no one else thinks Gattis is a “prospect”, it matters what the Braves think and since they have a brain, this slugger is a hot prospect! Rooting for you, Evan, hope you make it and your dreams come true. Great Story. Now, back to the Braves tonight, got to win, boys…
“treu”… I hate it when I lapse into French on the blog…..
May 8th, 20124:55 pm
Nice idea, Tony. It seems to have worked for you as well.
May 8th, 20124:57 pm
DOB, on the broadcast last night, right before commercial when Heyward was stranded on 2nd base, the camera caught, ever so briefly, Heyward yelling at the long haired ex. ND WR turned pitcher. Is there any light you can shed on this? I assume it had to do with Heyward getting plunked earlier in the game, but thought it was odd that it would come up so late in the game.
He did a good job getting on base, not much after that. He isn’t a threat to steal bases.
The plural of RBI is “RBI.” Not RBIs” – That would be Runs Batted Ins.
Flowers vs Gattis…the hype of the oversized catchers…
May 8th, 20124:58 pm
Nice poem BAS. Thanks for re-posting SOPH.
Hensenberg……..how does Gattis run? LOL He is a knuckledragger who is a catcher. How do you think he runs??????? Gabby Hartnett just ran past him! For those of you that don’t remember, Gabby was the slowest player in ML history.
May 8th, 20124:59 pm
he scored 100 runs, which BTW Bourn has never yet done in his career.despite all his steals
Getting on base is the biggest part of it
nolie well he’s not a “treu” leadoff hitter due to lack of speed, but he still did a pretty effective job
furcal was a little overrated, i think. good player, but prado and even kelly johnson were better leadoff hitters. they got on base more.
May 8th, 20125:01 pm
sorry not johnson, meant to say blanco. yes, gregor blanco.
May 8th, 20125:02 pm
nolie well he’s not a “treu” leadoff hitter
i would like to add that i am a terrible typer.
Hype with value, nolie. We got Javy for Flowers didnt we?
Gattis is our Michael morse, our Logan Morrison
May 8th, 20125:03 pm
I don’t ever remember hearing any stories about Flowers crying.
Gattis > Flowers
May 8th, 20125:04 pm
lot of potential in RF in the NL east – Harper, Heyward, and Stanton
2 prospects and a surefire HOFer
nolie he scored 100 runs, which BTW Bourn has never yet done in his career.despite all his steals
Getting on base is the biggest part of it
bourn gets on base as well as furcal ever did. he hasnt scored 100 runs yet because he played for the astros.
May 8th, 20125:05 pm
meh..my forearms may be thinner but they are way more hairy..
well, folks, i’ll be getting off now…. got a baseball game tonight, so hoping it doesn’t rain. I will miss the start of the game, but hopefully they start well. I should be back by the 4th inning.
Peace out, bloggers.
May 8th, 20125:07 pm
The plural of RBI is “RBI.” Not RBIs” – That would be Runs Batted Ins.
Picky, picky. What if the player only has one RBI? What then?
True… Prado had the luck to be on a 90 win team, while bourn was stuck on a 60 win team that didn’t hit all that much.
May 8th, 20125:08 pm
Went and seen Gattis in Mobile on Friday. He looked real good in outfield made a diving catch and went back on ball well. At the plate a homer and double and one to the wall. He is the real deal. Can’t wait until he gets a chance.
May 8th, 20125:10 pm
While some who write about drafts and minor leaguers and prospects for a living keep insisting that Gattis is not a prospect because of his age, and won’t be a good outfielder (unlike them, I’ll admit I honestly don’t know, since I haven’t seen him play the outfield).
I wonder who DOB might be referring to?
May 8th, 20125:11 pm
We want Gattis!
May 8th, 20125:12 pm
Gattis can bloop balls for HR’s.
there have been numerous poor low-scoring teams that had 100 run scoring leadoff hitters
May 8th, 20125:13 pm
My name is not Crawford, it is Chuck. Samantha real name is Amber. We are being moved out of state where she can get the treatment she needs. The story I told you about her multiple personalities is true. I have never seen any people like you before. I thought maybe you cared about her but apparently you have no heart. We will be fine. I am going to get her cured. We will not be back so Be happy. Take care of each other and may God be with you. So long. have peace and Go Braves.
May 8th, 20125:14 pm
I heard that Gattis once leaned into a pitch and it hit off his elbow… and cleared the CF fence. The umps didn’t know how to rule, so they gave him a HR and HBP.
He’s just that badass.
May 8th, 20125:16 pm
What if the player only has one RBI? What then?
when 1 then R = “Run”
when > 1 then R = “Runs”
Thus still RBI either way.
May 8th, 20125:17 pm
When Gattis drinks, he drinks Dos Equis. He is the most powerful man in minor league.
May 8th, 20125:20 pm
Did Flowers ever have a stretch at the plate in A/AA like Gattis has had?
Live long and prosper, Crawford.
May 8th, 20125:22 pm
@Murph,We need Gattis like Vincent and Jules needed the Wolf.
May 8th, 20125:23 pm
I seem to recall Flowers had a really good winter ball stretch in Arizona, but was traded that winter in the Vazquez deal.
May 8th, 20125:26 pm
Sheeesh Ef, You’re getting married in the middle of the Season? Tough man. I had mine moved back to November so it wouldn’t impact any baseball.
I remember you telling me that. Unfortunately, I think she planned it to be in May on purpose to keep me away from my Braves….
I’ll still be checking the box scores in Hawaii to see how Heyward and Hanson are doing….
May 8th, 20125:27 pm
If the Braves don’t sign Born, why not put Simmons in center if the Pastor contunies to improve. Gattis in left for the future. The Braves will be young and ready to go for the future. Go Braves
May 8th, 20125:28 pm
Just going to have to wait and see on Gattis. Tough to figure how he’ll do up in the majors given his age level currently. Also be nice to see him pummel for a full season across three levels. That would be a nice sign heading into next year.
May 8th, 20125:29 pm
plural or RBI is Ribbies
Gattis and Simmons both are ready for AAA, the sooner the better.
May 8th, 20125:30 pm
Rome loses again. Shut out again.
David Filak with another strong outing. Lone bright spot for Rome to date. Him and Kyle Kubitza.
I’ll still be checking the box scores in Hawaii to see how Heyward and Hanson are doing…
polish’s feelings are hurt
May 8th, 20125:32 pm
Gattis to Gwinnett soon, I believe. Well, soon being then next couple of months.
May 8th, 20125:33 pm
22 year old David Filak in 7 starts: 35.2 IP, 25 hits allowed, 7 ER, 1.77 ERA, 17/45 BB/K ratio. Add him to the 2010/2011 draft class that could be better than I thought….
Simmons, Gattis, Terdoslavich, Gilmartin, Ahmed, Lipka, La Stella, Graham, Martin, Kubitza, Filak.
May 8th, 20125:34 pm
Bill M, Simmons is and will continue to be a better defensive SS than Pastornicky. Pastor got the nod because of more experience in AAA and better hitter. Now that Simmons is hitting in AAA, he would most likely beat out Pastor in a rematch next spring. Thus I suggested earlier that Pastor move to CF in that scenario.
May 8th, 20125:35 pm
If the Braves don’t sign Born, why not put Simmons in center if the Pastor contunies to improve.
I’ve read from multiple people that Simmons is like an 80 defender at SS. Why in the world would you move him to CF?
I think Gattis goes to Gwinett as soon as Bethancourt comes off the DL.
I had mine moved back to November so it wouldn’t impact any baseball.
I got married during the playoffs… just so happened that the Braves lost to the Astros that day, and someone wrote a little sign with the score on it and put it on my groom’s cake, which was a perfect replica of Turner Field.
I proceeded to get really, really drunk. And the cake tasted awesome, despite the tampering.
May 8th, 20125:36 pm
Simmons is still in Double-A. Doing well there in a small sample of a little over 110 plate appearances.
Gattis isn’t in AA to catch. He’s learning a new position and catching as a back up. He’ll probably be there for a bit longer…unless Bethancourt is out for a lengthy time…
May 8th, 20125:37 pm
Simmons is not at AAA, he’s at AA Mississippi
May 8th, 20125:38 pm
Oops, accidently typed to many AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAs
May 8th, 20125:39 pm
Really hoping for either Clemson 3B Richie Shaffer or Stanford 3B Stephen Piscotty.
May 8th, 20125:40 pm
But my opinion on the Simmons/Pastornicky thingy remains unchaaanged.
Enquiring Minds Want to Know
May 8th, 20125:41 pm
Regarding Gattis’ age, wasn’t Ryan Howard 25 or 26 before he made the Phillies major league roster?
Or any pitcher that can hit 93mph with the fastball. College or High School. Preferrably a pitcher that is 6′3” or taller.
Who here likes Dempster’s ‘glove waggle’ wind-up?
I really don’t like it.
Love Durbin tho.
May 8th, 20125:44 pm
I believe Dempster’s ‘glove waggle’ came from earlier in his career he was tipping pitches with something he did with his glove on off speed stuff. So he came up with that on every pitch.
May 8th, 20125:46 pm
Yeah Heisy, that what I’ve heard as well.
don sutton's poodle perm
May 8th, 20125:47 pm
As Biggie Smalls rapped, “Who Got Da Gat?” Da Braves Got Da Gat!
May 8th, 20125:49 pm
You know those “Go Barves” tshirts that Fish Bisch bought Here is a story about it on Talking Chop and 11Alive.
May 8th, 20125:57 pm
The interwebs (and Bob Brenly) seem to think that one of the Braves bullpen guys got the number of a cubs ball girl.
May 8th, 20126:00 pm
The Durbin experiment is over, time to OR him. Give Medlen more opportunities off the bench and increase the side-work on OFlaherty til he figures out the hitch in his giddy-up. time to cut way back on the Free Runs we’ve been handing out across the board lately.
Snot, thanks for posting the link… that’s awesome!
May 8th, 20126:01 pm
told you guys Gattis isn’t blinking at AA. They’ll send him to G-Braves next where everyone can go ga-ga over his power and then he’ll be here in Sept. for the stretch. Simmons too most likely…
May 8th, 20126:03 pm
Who would you rather have on your playoff roster, Simmons or Wilson?
May 8th, 20126:04 pm
Snotb – excellent link dude, and she’s not ugly. Wonder if Marteeeen was hitting on that in LF last night lol???
May 8th, 20126:06 pm
Great new DOB blog today, thanks David. Perfect read to get in the baseball watching mode after a long dreary day at work. The Gattis story this spring was pretty cool and it’s great to see him do well this year. I hope he gets promoted to AAA if only so that I could see him play when Gwinnett travels up to NY in June.
May 8th, 20126:07 pm
I hope the Braves take their time bringing up Evan slowly as he’s learning to play the corner OF spot. No need to rush him this season. Let him learn and get some seasoning and get him out from behind the plate.
Even if McCann leaves or is traded down the road, I think the Braves see Bethancourt(sp) as their “next in line” not Evan (at catcher).
BTW…why does Fredo continue to put Prado 2nd and Chipper 6th? Who has the higher OBP??? Isn’t the job to put the guys who get on base the MOST near the top of the lineup? I believe Chipper is better suited to hit 2nd at this point in his career.
Who here first posted “Go Barves”? I can’t remember… but somebody posted it on accident, then a few people laughed about it, and it’s kinda taken off since. Was it Mixxo? Or Bat? Damn my short term memory loss!
May 8th, 20126:09 pm
for me, too early to say right now. Question isn’t defensive in my mind, its the offense that will decide for me. Simmons is ++ on defense and arm strength, Wilson is – for me – solid but not spectacular defensively with an average arm. Thoughts?
Wilson can play 3 infield positions. Not sure if Simmons has played anywhere other than SS. That would be the only advantage of Wilson over Simmons if that decision is to be made. But Braves got Francisco/Prado to back up 3B and Prado at 2B so it could happen.
That is all for me. Bye.
May 8th, 20126:11 pm
Murph I’ve seen “Barves” thing on Twitter since spring training or even last year.
64 year Braves fan
May 8th, 20126:12 pm
With McCanns terrible stats against Dempster why is he batting 4th. He kills us in that spot. Too many double
play grounders to kill potential big innings. Batting 8th he can’t clog the bases if he gets on. Then
serves as cleanup hitter #2. I would not sign him to a long term contract. With his size and advancing
age it would be a killer contract. Go with Ross and bring along Bettancourt. A lot cheaper and a lot
better defense. Also can Durbin now.
Wasn’t me. idk
I too am on my way out the door… Mrs Murph is picking up pizza tonight! I don’t know if I’m more excited about eating pizza or not eating Mrs Murph’s cooking.
Either way, it’s going to be a ++ night. GO BARVES!!!
