in one of the first couple of days he was at big-league camp, he started crying when he thought about where he was, how he’d survived a few years of rambling and now was suiting up in the same clubhouse with Chipper, McCann and the rest of the Braves.

That does it for me, I reckon. Think I’ll just shoot the next analyst who says, “He’s not a prospect.”, because I don’t think I really care about that very much, anymore.

If Bethancourt comes back from the DL and does what it seems he is capable of doing for the remainder of this year and next year the odds of the Braves re-signing McCann seem pretty low.

Especially when you consider that recently the Braves have had a working strategy of starting rookies to open a season (Heyward, Freeman, Pastornicky). Also McCann will be reallllly expensive.. the drop in value between him and Bethancourt might not be worth $15 million a year in payroll. The drop probably won’t even be -that- bad due to Bethancourts superior defensive skills.

Teheran has looked a little better his last two outings…9 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. The important part being the 1 BB in 9 innings, as opposed to the 10 BB in his previous 16 innings.

Also, after a slow start, Andrelton Simmons starting get hot at the plate. Hitting .406 during current 8-game hitting streak. He’s now 7th in the Southern League in average, at .320.

And then obviously Gattis leading the minor league world in nearly every category.

True dat, but we’re not talking about bringing one of these guys up to displace a guy throwing decent innings with a sub-5.00 ERA. We’re talking about bringing one of them up to take Durbin’s place.

And I still think Gearrin is going to be a quality reliever at the ML level. Last year, he had a line of 16 IP, 11 H, 6 BB, 21 K, 3.38 ERA before he blew up 2 of his last 3 outings, so he’s shown he can get out major league hitters. Chapman may never be more than a AAA pitcher, but I just get aggravated seeing Gearrin down there while Durbin is throwing 87 mph meat down the middle.

Year one……….308/ .385./ .557/ .942 in 125 games

Year two……….331/ .405/ .664/ 1.070 including 38 HR and 38 2B in 129 games.

Do you think he and EOF could make the Mariners any better?
