About the Braves:
Batting: Freddie Freeman has a .438 career average (14-for-32) with three doubles and a whopping six homers, 11 RBIs and 1.094 slugging percentage in eight games against the Rockies. What might surprise is that he’s hit even better against them in Atlanta than hitter-friendly Coors Field, although he’s also thrived in four games there (7-for-18 with two doubles, two homers, four RBIs).
Pitching: Hudson’s second start since coming off the DL will be at one of his least-favorite venues. The veteran’s 4-2 record and 4.38 ERA in eight starts against the Rockies includes 0-2 with a 7.77 ERA in four starts at Coors Field, his second-worst ERA in any of 35 ballparks where he’s pitched (he’s 0-3 with a 10.45 ERA at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago)…. Beachy gave up nine hits, six runs and two homers in 4-2/3 innings in his lone start vs. the Rockies, at Coors Field…. Minor hasn’t faced the Rockies.
Miscellaneous: At Coors Field, Brian McCann is 28-for-73 (.384) with seven doubles, three homers and 14 RBI in 20 games, with a .397 OBP and 1.000 OPS…. Jason Heyward is 8-for-20 (.400) with four extra-base hits (one homer) in five games at Coors…. Chipper Jones has a .323 average with 22 doubles, 12 homers and 54 RBIs in 56 games at Coors, with 40 walks and a .421 OBP. He last played at the park on July 12, 2009…. Dan Uggla is 11-for-53 (.208) in 14 games at Coors, and four of the hits were homers.
About the Rockies:
Batting: Carlos Gonzalez is on a torrid run, going 14-for-34 (.412) with seven homers and 18 RBIs in his past nine games. He’s hit .370 with five homers and 18 RBIs in 12 home games…. The Rockies are 3-3 so far on a long homestand and had a pair of four-homer games in wins Saturday vs. the Mets and Wednesday vs. the Dodgers. They’ve scored at least five runs in eight consecutive home games and in 11 of 15 home games this season, including wins by scores of 17-8 and 18-9.
Pitching: Moscoso gave up nine hits and six runs in five innings of a home loss to the Mets on Friday in his season debut. He’s in his first season with Colorado after pitching in 34 games (21 starts) with Texas and Oakland during the 2009-2011 seasons (8-10, 3.47 ERA, 88 strikeouts, 46 walks in 142-2/3 innings). The 28-year-old right-hander hasn’t faced the Braves.
Miscellaneous: Against Hudson, Todd Helton is 10-for-15 with a homer, seven RBIs, one walk and no strikeouts. Jason Giambi is 9-for-23 (.391) with three homers against the right-hander…. The Rockies are 8-7 at home with a .292 average (second in NL), 98 runs and 21 homers. They have a league-worst 5.19 home ERA, after ranking last with a 4.71 home ERA in 2011.
