Post celebration, McCann fine but has small scratch on eye

Vivlamore reporting from Turner Field.

Brian McCann can rest easy – and so can Michael Bourn.

McCann visited an eye doctor Thursday en route to Turner Field, the day after he was poked in the eye during the celebration following his fifth-inning grand slam.

According to the Braves catcher, he suffered a “scratch on the outer side” of his right eye. He was given drops for the eye, which showed no visible sign of injury.

“It won’t affect anything but having a little discomfort for a couple of days,” McCann said.

David Ross started at catcher Thursday against the Phillies because it is a day game following Wednesday’s dramatic 15-13 11-inning victory.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said McCann would be available if needed.

“When it happened you don’t really know what happened,” McCann said. “You hope for the best and it turned out to be just a scratch.”

Bourn was the culprit, accidently hitting McCann during the celebration. The home run capped the first of several comebacks for the Braves in the game, this one erasing what was a 6-0 deficit to Phillies starter Roy Halladay.

McCann harbors no ill feelings.

“It was in the moment,” McCann said.

DOB is “fudging” here. This article written at 11:25AM says “David Ross STARTED at catcher Thursday”. What if it’s rained out or Ross gets injured in pre-game, or etc., etc. That could make him look rather stupd. Not real smart.

Will, you are correct, but since it’s under DOB’s byline, he is responsible. When I saw that “Vivlamore Reporting from Turner Field” I thought maybe that was Spanish for VaVaVoom or something!

“kmarshall4″ you and I agree. I said at the start of the season that TP was just the opposite of what I thought he would be. He is much better offensively than he is defensively. Think he will end up as a 2nd baseman either with the Braves or another club in a few short years. Suprised his on field weaknesses have not been noticed by the EXPERTS already! Does he have connections or know somebody in the Braves hierarchy?

I agree on TP. He is average at best, and hard to take after watching Gonzalez throw the leather for the last two years. I think you will see J Wilson put in for defense every time the game is close after the 7th, when we have the lead.

Eyes do seem to bewitch McCann, which is a shame, as they can quickly end a career.
