April 30th, 20129:27 pm
FF with the slow throw.
I’m responding to your 9:14 attack and talking about all the stupid crap you post time after time after time phil.
April 30th, 20129:28 pm
Yes. Once again our manager continues to go with someone (Durban) that no one else in the majors would.
Large Livan mows em down…
April 30th, 20129:29 pm
I can’t wait to see what the Nationals will do to this team… If the mighty Pirates are doing this… god help this team the rest of the year…
April 30th, 20129:30 pm
lock up born and take your chances in the future with bourn prado heyward freeman uggla pastor/simmons and get replacements for mcann and chipper….rotation will be fine once all the kids really learn how to pitch and the bullpen is in good shape…world series titles here we come
Mac 202 since July, wow! Time to move on. He and hurtward should be shipped out while they have value
But I’m sure will pull a Jurjjens and not trade a guy or two when they have value left.
Mac is the best offensive catcher in the game (in 2012)?
I would take Napoli, Posey, Mauer when healthy, and even Molina on offense alone.
Hell, The way Mac has turned into a strict pull hitter into the shift, I like Josh Tole almost as well. No power but aqlways a competetive AB and a lot of hits — a catching version of the Rev we have seen this past week.
April 30th, 20129:31 pm
depends on your definition of mediocre. It is used here quite frequently and seldom is it used as “average”
P B Orr
All this talk about the Pirates being some sort of standard for mediocrity is dumb. They bust out occasionally, like everyone. Even the 1989 Braves would put up a 9 now and then. Stop whining! So we’re getting killed. Hey, they are in the majors too.
April 30th, 20129:32 pm
The Astros beat the Dodgers earlier this year 12-0…
@Bat…Teach continuum—–Yes, I hear he intrepidly utilized ‘The Queen Anne’ while on his speed.

So much for us sweeping the Pirates,
Um, this was not an option as of Saturday…
that post, half empty head? It was directed at the moron Cab was commenting on, NOT HER!
Aside from that, you can kiss my foot. I acknowledge that i post a lot of crap.
What’s your excuse for your mindless drivel?
What I don’t get is how so many of the people that comment here ever ended up on a baseball blog to begin with.
They beat Chad Billingsley…
April 30th, 20129:34 pm
On the trivia question, I’ll go with Jason Schmidt.
Nice AB 5
The Braves will assist McDonald in getting a pretty decent contract one day, His agent will show video of his starts against the Braves and try to convince the buyer he is black Cy Young! Actually, anyone who has seen his starts against the Braves would be hard pressed to argue to the contrary.
April 30th, 20129:35 pm
April 30th, 20129:36 pm
they are not only the lowest scoring team in the majors jim, but they are 20 or so runs under the next to last team. The really really really stink.
Ross is flat out better than McCann right now. Flat out better.
Trade fat Mac for an outfielder and power pen arm. Should have been double play.
McCann is brutal
Teams should just place every fielder between first and second when Mac is up and form a wall like in soccer.
April 30th, 20129:37 pm
If our pitching coach can field like that I’d make him a catcher
I would never call a guy with the career stats Durbin has mediocre.
“What is a BUMB?”
A dumb bum!
Another roller to the right side..The 2nd baseman is so far in the hole that he covers up an error by McGhee.
April 30th, 2012
Their pitching staff also has the 3rd lowest ERA in the NL, behind the Nats & Cardinals
April 30th, 20129:38 pm
phil, it was aimed at me and there was nothing moronic about my statement . It was being used as a comparison of disappointment, so suck your own toes jerk
April 30th, 20129:39 pm
April 30th, 2012
line of the night!! Too funny!
Win some lose some. It’s baseball. We still showed some life tonight. It’s nothing like last year’s hibernation.
I’m just worried about Mac. Something’s not right with him.
Average: typical; common; ordinary
Mediocre: of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad;
Isn’t neither good nor bad in this context indeed average?
Mc Cann already is in August form.Time to turn the page on this fatty.
April 30th, 20129:40 pm
This team would win more with Ross hitting 7th and his defense.
Trade Mac for an outfielder and power arm please frank. The pen will need help come July
the worst 1st place in baseball : the braves
i see a lot of mistakes in this team:
1.- THE LINEUP :
a poor obp by freeman he dont deserve the 3rd spot in the lineup ,,,, is chipper the right player in 3rd spot…. No McCann in cleaup spot….is Uggla with lately clutch hits who deserves the cleanup spot…
release Durbin and call up anybody for AAA
send down Francisco to AAA and call up Constanza…..
i prefer Constanza on LF and Prado on 3B in Chipper’s day off instead Prado on LF and Francisco on 3B…..
so I was trying to put the best possible spin on it Jason. the point still is valid about some good games but not reliable
Well if you were the doof who thought this ended hopes for a sweep, then yes, it was aimed at you.
McCann is not getting traded.
April 30th, 20129:41 pm
McCann is looking very old!
April 30th, 20129:42 pm
Sheeesh Jason, obsess much over nothing ? It was not the point of my statement.sorry i offended you by using one word you disagree with
Minor to Gwinnett.
Release Durbin. .
Yeah, it would have been nice to win the series and take possession of 1st place before the Phils come into town. But, you are going to have a stinker of game now and again. We are still 14-5 in our last 19 games. Not bad…not bad at all.
April 30th, 20129:43 pm
I suggested trading mac back in week one.
Any return we’d get is worsening by the game.
Maybe he’ll wake up eventually. He’s hoping.
Are you a general manager on the side. Do you know for a fact he won’t be traded. Do you see the future.
You are so insightful and know so much about the game
April 30th, 20129:44 pm
I did not say anything about the Pirates. They are mediocre in 2012, but not terrible. They lack power, but have good pitching, and a decent young nucleus in McCutcheon, Walker, Alvarez, Tabata. They will hit a lot better than they have in April, but not as well as they have tonight. They should end up in the middle of the pack of the NL Central.
I did not say it ended hopes for a sweep, I was comparing the probable 2-2 series outcome against all the crap that was being talked about a Braves sweep before the games started.
Brain Half Empty – having a tough night, eh?
April 30th, 20129:45 pm
let’s just have 7 run bottom of the 9th. Hey I can dream if i wan’t to.
No team is as bad as they look when they are losing, and no team is as good as they look when they are winning. That is why I take anything that happens this year with a grain of salt. I said the Braves will win 84 games and I’m sticking with that. The team has done well since losing it’s first 4 games, but we will see leaner times this year. I really believe that.
I apologize jim, it was Orr’s comment that I was responding to. You deserve an apology
April 30th, 20129:46 pm
In that case, Head Half Empty, I apologize.
McCann like hurtward are done. This team would be fine with Ross and his defense.
Is it even possible for you to have a rational discussion without insulting people? No, I don’t “know for a fact” but I think it’s a pretty safe guess.
April 30th, 20129:47 pm
no phil, you who are too stupid to understand English are having the rough night.
Half, not obessessing much at all. Simply pointing out the fact that it would be a logical conclusion for one to reach that when reading someone referring to someone else as mediocre that said someone was indeed calling the someone else average.
No offense taken in the least. Just having a friendly convo as we get slaughtered by the worst offensive team in baseball which lends credence to the fact that Durbin is indeed not mediocre and well below average.
April 30th, 20129:48 pm
Mr. Frank Wren has done an admirable job putting together the Pittsburgh roster.
May turn out to be very valuable eating mop up innings.
Actually, CAB does know a lot about the game and is very insightful.
I guess we are all pyssed off tonight including me
When is the last time we scored 7 in an inning?
April 30th, 20129:49 pm
I never saw the comment, half empty dunderhead…
April 30th, 20129:50 pm
April 30th, 2012
Ok cabravesfan fan
Assume all you want or think! Just like you think Hayward is any damn good!
April 30th, 20129:51 pm
I will, thanks.
April 30th, 20129:52 pm
Thanks, phil & Jason.
April 30th, 20129:53 pm
I can’t get over the people on the blog — Minor to the minors (along with Delgado), trade Heyward, bench McCann.
April 30th, 20129:54 pm
You are welcome, CAB. Just speakin’ the truth.
a loss and the world (or the blog) is falling apart…….
trade McCann, Freeman can’t bat third, Heyward isn’t worth anything, etc.
I wonder if some have quick replace text to get those lines in quickly
April 30th, 20129:55 pm
Heavy Hinske will need a week off after this mayhem.
April 30th, 20129:56 pm
Jim – you forgot release pastornicky and fire FG!!
April 30th, 20129:57 pm
April 30th, 201210:00 pm
That game was discouraging, but it will be nice to see the Braves seek some revenge on the Phillies starting tomorrow.
Sens Chipper to AAA
April 30th, 201210:02 pm
April 30th, 2012
and I say stupid stuff?
Good night all….even you half senseless.
April 30th, 201210:03 pm
kidding aside, I would not mind seeing Delgado sent down to regroup before his confidence gets dented at such an early age.
Flande has started a lot of games, I’m not sure he would be any worse
I hope McCann was watching Hinske tonight — a bunt and a hit to left, and the Pirates abandoned their shift.
April 30th, 201210:04 pm
Telling it like it is…love that Ronnie Gant.
April 30th, 201210:07 pm
The Pirates poor offensive numbers might be partly a result of the teams they have been playing in April — Giants, Dodgers, Phillies, and Cards. They are mediocre = average, not mediocre = poor this year.
April 30th, 201210:08 pm
Ron throw somebody under the bus?
April 30th, 201210:15 pm
Ok people, just know this – Minor is NOT a major leaguer and Durbin is Sherill all over again.
April 30th, 201210:16 pm
gee stretch, just the other day, Minor was an ace….
April 30th, 201210:17 pm
LSAT is a test for gays???
April 30th, 201210:18 pm
does Braveheart know this??
April 30th, 201210:19 pm
kinda disappointing game today. I guess it was a good one to miss.
April 30th, 201210:20 pm
hjmmm. usually a bad loss keeps the ol’ blog churnin’ for hours….
April 30th, 201210:21 pm
I’m probably the only one who feels this way, but I feel that McCann has become a liability as a catcher and as a clean’up hitter. His blocking of balls in the dirt leaves a lot to be desired, his pitch selection and positioning just doesn’t make sense sometomes, how long has it been since hes had a meaningful hit, how many runs have scored as a result of him bot blocking the plate or misplaying the relay throw,or acting like he is in a fog back there. I expect much better from an “all star catcher.
Cap: Where's My Tip
after some good starts, a few of the starters end April with their ERA’s going in the wrong direction:
(the demoted JJ: 9.37)
Delgado is starting to get blasted but Minor’s result is from just 2 bad starts (vs Mets / vs Pirates). Minor can get it turned around but I might start worrying about Delgado …. just have to see how he does in his next start vs Blanton and the Phillies
April 30th, 201210:22 pm
and here I wasn’t even being douchebaggy…
April 30th, 201210:24 pm
trade Mac today!
April 30th, 201210:29 pm
Wren dropped the ball on JJ,now he is worth nothing in return.I think he would pull the trigger on Mc Cann while people still think he is in his prime.
April 30th, 201210:31 pm
Good to see I have not missed all of the incredibly brilliant and wonderful posts from the most insightful bloggers in the good old US of A…
the only time JJ had any real value in a while is the middle of last season. If Wren would have traded hin during the pennant run this place would have gone even crazier that it normally is
April 30th, 201210:42 pm
Knicks Amare Stoudemire punched the glass area that enclosed a fire extinguisher, a source tells @YahooSports…
cutting his hand rather badly. Very clever…
April 30th, 201210:47 pm
Wren? He doesn’t irk me as much as the bench decisions made regarding several areas–focus on starting pitching and Mr Minor….when it is apparent the command issues are causing him to not utilize his full arsenal of hurls–effective was only the fastball. Why are we latent in sending him downstairs? For heavens sake; we have other arms available for these situations and preparation for this should be all worked out in the off season, i.e., what to do and when. No, we sit there on our @ss and watch the guy implode because the opponent is waiting for the one and only pitch working–the fastball. Seems to me if you are that incapable on any given night/outing…a 4-2 score at hand I’d be thinking minimize the other teams runs–not wait for more=balls parked in outfield seats.
April 30th, 201210:50 pm
I love Mac, but he is what he is. He is an average defensive catcher who happens to be the best offensive player at his position in all of baseball. But, he should not bat cleanup. I like him in the 6-hole myself.
Mac’s replacement in the organization is at AA, at least 1 year away. Would the Braves get value for him if they traded him now? I doubt they would get an offensive player that would be good for 20-25 HRs and 90 RBIs (I don’t think McCann will reach those numbers this year either) He wouldn’t bring back a Garza or that quality of a starter, and it’s unlikely he would bring back a catcher any better than say Johnny Estrada before the collison. What is disturbing about his offense is that he is not giving good ABs, How many times this month have we seen him have ABs of 4 or more pitches? Someone asked when was his last big hit? The line drive off the head of Guerra in the LA series. The thing about that was that if it did not hit the pitcher and bounce toward third, it would have been right to the player behind 2B in the shift.
