McCann has been shyty since July. Is this the guy you all want the braves to build their future around for 100 mil that the Sox are gonna give him?

Durbin for example….. if you are a pitcher who lacks confidence and gettting some tough breaks, you want to go to Atlanta because they will show you extreme amounts of patience. If you are a pitcher who just sucks and you are trying to hang on, you want to go to Atlanta because they show extreme patience and will let you hang around much longer than any team should and draw a paycheck.

Well….we all knew Fredi was going to lose at least one game single-handedly. You can blame McCann and Durbin all you want but Minor should have been gone last inning and we possibly still have a one run game against one of the worst hitting teams in baseball. Look, it’s doesn’t matter who’s fault it was at 2nd… mccann’s throw or uggla’s drops. the fact remains the play wasn’t made.
Behind the plate is all mccann. It used to be that everyone knew he wasn’t the best defensive catcher, but his bat more than made up for it.
Not so much anymore. His defensive has gotten worse and so has his bat.
His technique is horrible.

Our team budget is both a burden and a Godsend. I wish we could afford some really good offensive pieces, but on the other side, I pray that they don’t shower McCann with anything resembling bigtime money. That would be a huge mistake. We should wave bye bye to Mac after next year when Bethancourt is ready to be a real catcher in this league.

Why did Fredi run Minor out for another inning when he was already at 99 pitches? Once he walked the first batter, it set up the inning for the middle of the order.

I have to admit…I wasn’t expecting this. The worst offensive team in the NL vs. Minor. I was expecting an easy win tonight. But, like they say, that’s why you play the games I guess. Of course Durbin sucks…sheesh, just look at his CAREER stas: 5.12 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, and xFIP of 4.76. He was awful, is awful, and will always be awful.

I’m gratified to see some objective knowledge displayed about McCann. That play behind the plate was just disgusting. I’d take Marv Throneberry if he’d get in front of the ball. That’s just one of those things you learn on the first day – get in front of the ball, keep it in front of you. If you’re getting millions to catch, at least move a few feet out of gratitude.

I think you’ve got to get McCann out of the #4 hole. I would go Bourn, Prado, Heyward, Freeman, Uggla, Chipper, McCann, Pastor. (I think Heyward is streaky and a 270 hitter, but he can make things happen on the bases and will get more walks batting third, rather than 7th.

I’m not piling on Mac. He’s been a great Brave and can’t be expected to put this team on his back and carry them to the playoffs. I do believe he should be treated with respect and sent on his way at the end of this contract.
Can anyone imagine paying him the 15 plus mil per year he will command?
Let the Red Sox or Yankees pay him. Braves need to be looking at a catcher like Yadier who can get the best out of the pitching staff. Let other position players worry about carrying the offensive load.

I think McCann is a good player. Not a great player. His value is and will be decreasing. A short cheap contract is a valid idea but not long term.
He is a good guy and everyone likes him but not for big dollars or years.
Baseball decision has to be made. He is going down hill and should be hitting 7th

Two huge concerns:
1. The glarring pattern heyward has….he struggles then outta the blue he’s been hurt or hiding an injury.
2. B-mac has been down right awfull since july of 2011…to the tune of an 202 avg and an 700 OPS

I think they’ll look like the same team but from the way it’s shaping up, when the series is over … there won’t have been many runs scored between the two teams (and whether it’s 1-0 wins or 3-2 wins, all the Braves need is, at best, take 2-3 and win the series)

Durbin is not mediocre. He is a below average ML reliever that we have a million to instead of letting one of the young guys have a chance. Of course, if Viz doesn’t blow out his elbow, Durbin isn’t here anyway. But still, we have guys in the minors that can outperform Durbin’s career stats. On such a tight budget, I would think that million would come in handy at the tread deadline.
