with uggla’s horrible ABs seeming to be nonstop- why not move him to the 7 hole? not doing much better than tyler or wilson at 8. move freddie or heyward to 4th, mac to 5th or 6th.

Rather difficult to hit a ball opposite-field if they pitch you hard and in. You either have to pull it and hope to elevate it over the infield or risk jamming the crap out of yourself and hitting a meager pop-up.

cricket – they only employ the shift against dead-pull hitters, and then they (are supposed to) pitch to that shift. Against hitters who go to all fields and have exceptional bat control, it would be less effective since such hitters have usually demonstrated the ability to inside-out anything.
Mac can go to all fields, but he’s not good at inside-outing the ball. So they employ the shift.
