Great news! Nickelback is coming to SLC in June! Get your tickets folks, they won’t last.
Heading off for the pregame fun before the Jazz/Suns game tonight. I’d ask you folks to look for me, but camera’s are not capable of getting a clear shot that far away.
David O’Brien @ajcbraves
Hudson’s first two walks of the game load the bases but he strikes out Gimenez to escape. 91 pitches through five scoreless.
I think it’s interesting how many folks don’t like the cow or the wave or anything that a lot of young folks love about the game.
Last year the cow was the highlight of my nephew’s 3 year old! And two years ago, when my mid 70’s mother was doing the wave at the game on her 56th anniversary, it was the best part of the game for me.
My son says if you listen to a Nickelback song backwards, it’s messages from Satan. But worse than that, if you listen to it played forward you hear Nickelback………..
Fredi G on Jurrjens: ““Tough call all the way around, but obviously it wasn’t the JJ we’ve seen in the past. And you could tell by his frustrations at times, the last three or four starts — even going back to last year, a couple of his last starts. It’s not a health issue; he feels great.
“So like I told him last night, and again this morning before he got on the plane: you’re not the first guy to go down to the minor leagues. Come back up after whatever amount of starts it takes to get fixed, then come back up and have a great, long career in the major leagues. It’s up to him. And we as an organization are going to try to get him back and help us win ballgames in the big leagues.”
“Without going into the details of the conversation we had, or the conversations that have taken place between Marty Reed, Roger and me and Dave Brundage. It’s a big … it’s almost a re-do, the whole thing. And it’s up to him. He needs to buy into whatever we’re going to ask him to do, for him to get back up here. Confidence, arm strength, leg strength, weight training, conditioning, the whole thing. It’s mental – I guess that falls under confidence. He’s going to have to buy into it.”
“It sucks. It sucks for all of us. But he’s going to work hard, and he’s going to be back here before too long. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he’s back to that All-Star form and being a leader of this staff again.”
“It’s one of the mysteries of this game. It’s like a reminder to me – I’m not comfortable. I go out there each start knowing it could be my last.”

Vans versus Chucks represents the Great Cultural Debate of sneakers, like whether you were a Unitas or Namath fan in the 60’s. It said a LOT about who you were – from politics to social mores.
Me!? Always been a Chuck’s kind of guy, but a pal bought me a pair of Vans way back when, and I kicked around in ‘em. That said, the kicks of choice have always been the hard-core Chuck’s – the punk rock / rockabilly choice of sneakers!
Eric Karabell and Keith Law talk it up about the Braves rotation including the demotion of JJ. He also had some interesting comments about Fredi and Delgado. http://espn.go.com/espnradio/play?id=7850523 Start around minute 10.
Any word about JJ from Roger McDowell? I’d be interested to hear his take on this situation as to if he thinks JJ has a mental block, arm fatigue or a change in mechanics that caused his issues. Hopefully Marty Reed can get him turned around in Gwinnett and back with the big club by the end of June. Should also be noted that JJ is not the only Braves pitcher who has lost velocity under McDowell.
David O’Brien @ajcbraves
That’s it for Hudson, up 2-1 w/ two outs in the sixth. Gave up six hits, two walks, four Ks, 110 pitches, 68 strikes. leaves runner at 3rd
He needs to buy into whatever we’re going to ask him [JJ] to do, for him to get back up here. Confidence, arm strength, leg strength, weight training, conditioning, the whole thing.
I remember some talk here last year regarding JJ’s workout ethic. Fredi’s comments make it sound like the organization is concerned about his conditioning – as well as his confidence.

Nice catch by Constanza to save Hudson’s runner. Final Hudson lineup: 5 2/3 IP, one earned run. 6 H, 2 BB, 4 Ks. 110 pitches (68 strikes)
tough luck for JJ, but time to cut him loose. we have enough talent in medlen as well as a plethora of prospects in the minors. need to make a play for a LF or SS asap!!
If only the Braves had been in the position to send down Derek Lowe and Kenshin Kawakami when it became evident their continuing to pitch was a serious liability. I guess the differences here are either contractual and/or the fact that Jurrjens still had options, but hopefully the end result will A) be getting Jurrjens back on track with help in the minors and B) not losing uaranteed ground in the division every fifth day.
He [Jurrjens] needs to buy into whatever we’re going to ask him to do, for him to get back up here. Confidence, arm strength, leg strength, weight training, conditioning, the whole thing. It’s mental – I guess that falls under confidence. He’s going to have to buy into it.”
