Dave, thoughts on Blunderbuss?
I just hope Fredo has enough sense to use Gearrin appropriately.
April 24th, 20125:51 pm
I know KC has a love for former Brave players, how about we make a package to the royals to send JJ for Alcides Escobar. But here are other SS we could get for JJ or add a prospect with JJ.
1. Eduardo Nunez, Yankees
2. Mike Aviles , Red Sox
3. Jamey Carrol, Twins
4. Alexi Ramirez, White Sox
5. JJ Hardy Baltimore……A guy thats kinda like Jurrjens where he has underperformed and has a good size so both teams might do a swap in hoping a change of scenery might help both of them
Brian Jordan has that title.
When it all comes out in the wash, I think Jurrjens need will still prove to be the trouble.
Let’s see how well Jurrjens pitches at Gwinnett – and for more than a game or two.
God all of my blogs have been abnned or not going thru
i just bagged everyone from GOD to Messi to Obummer
Oh wait, those 3 think they are the same thing
Great result from CHELSEA…. thanks SNOTBOOGIE
April 24th, 20125:53 pm
J-Man… Jurrjens market value right now is probably near zero.
@count_schemula, how has Halladay “lost his way”?
wishing the best for JJ
April 24th, 20125:57 pm
I’ve never heard Grace call a game, but i trust your judgment on it, Cab…
Replace Mark Grace!!
If by “appropriately” you mean against lefties with the bases loaded and the Braves up by 1, then yes.
Absolutely the best move for the Braves to send Jurrgens down. Hard to feel sorry for a guy who makes millions a year to blow his one and only job every time he is out there. If any “normal” person did that every time they went to work, they would get fired, not demoted, and that is with making much, much less than what Jurrgens makes.
Personal or professional note, I don’t feel even a little bit bad for him. He is off of work for 5-6 months out of the year, he has plenty of time to hone his craft. While some on here will say, hope you get it right Jurrgens, I will say, good riddance and you are lucky to even still have a job in this organization. Good luck to your agent in getting you any kind of deal this offseason. Not much to write home about when it comes to Jair Jurrgens, not even the ruthless Scott Boras will help you this time.
April 24th, 20125:58 pm
Jurrjens value has taken a hit no doubt about it but there is still value there. Now there not getting a great SS but they could get a better SS than what they got for Jurrjens.
consider yourself lucky. I like Gracie…but he really should stay out of the booth
April 24th, 20125:59 pm
I don’t give a damn how many games they win, FREDI G is a dan idiot!
April 24th, 20126:01 pm
Terry red card was a Nancy Boy decision, not surprising from a team of refs representing our enemy from WWI and a team from WWII
ANZAC Day tomorrow, screw Turkey
Also, big difference between AAA hitters and that of the MLB brand. If Jurrgens pitches well in AAA, doesn’t mean for one second that he is right and should come back up. Leave him down there, then let him walk after the season.
“abeeewright April 24th, 2012 5:30 pm JJ will not be traded.”
….because no major league team would want him.
I like the fact that Wren is making these moves. Otherwise FrdiGonz the delusional will keep sending JJ out there every fifth day just like he did with DLowe last September.
April 24th, 20126:03 pm
“@count_schemula, how has Halladay “lost his way”?”
He hasn’t. I know sarcasm can be hard to pick up on a blog, but I did not think that one was a candidate for the distinction. lol
April 24th, 20126:06 pm
April 24th, 20126:07 pm
Could trade JJ for Metta World Peace. Put Metta at SS.
NOBODY PAST SECOND BASE YA’ HEARD?!
April 24th, 20126:10 pm
No one is trading for Jurrjens. Just not going to happen.
I have a HUGE announcement to make around the AS break.
April 24th, 20126:11 pm
If you didn’t have empathy [the ability to put yourself in another's shoes] for Jair last night, you should check on your humanity. The shot of him walking off of the mound after the second inning, head down, talking to himself, incredibly sad look on his face. He just had no clue as to what he needs to do to straighten things out. I hope he figures things out at AAA. For the Braves, but mostly for himself.
Glad to see Gearrin back with the big club. I thought he got a raw deal at the end of ST. But he did what he was supposed to do. Didn’t sulk, just went down and did a great job. Unscored upon with few walks and lots of Ks. He deserved what he received. A promotion.
Flande has also given up zero runs, but in more innings than Cory. Of course he has been starting. I kind of understood the Braves signing Livan,’cause he can eat innings and let the other BP guys get more rest. However, for the life of me, I can never figure out the signing of Durbin. A 5+ ERA over his career. At least at some point in his career, Livan was an above average to excellent pitcher, but Durbin?
Who transcribed those Sharon Van Etten lyrics? According to liner notes, should be:
Sitting in the back of the room with a bowl you had owned
Guess that’s less PC for a Braves blog. Good song, anyway.
JJ’ value right now is pretty low. They’re not trading him for anyone good, in fact I don’t think any team would take on the injury risk at this point.
April 24th, 20126:12 pm
April 24th, 20126:13 pm
“I have a HUGE announcement to make around the AS break.
Finally! ARod in Atlanta returning to his glory years as SS!
April 24th, 20126:14 pm
Bob the Blogger
Trading JJ right now is not an option; he has no trade value. All we can do is hope whatever is wrong gets fixed, whether it’s mechanical, mental, or physical. My hunch is that what DOB is hearing from scouts is correct – he has a problem with the knee that can’t be corrected by surgery, otherwise he would have gone under the knife by now and be back to pitching. It’s a shame because for most of his career he’s put up very solid numbers – a 115 ERA+ which includes the second half of last year and this year.
April 24th, 20126:16 pm
Oh wait, there’s not an emoticon for that, yet… lol
I will take the blame for starting the Halladay thread. And yes my original post was intended as sarcasm which has been noted can be hard to detect. I found it ironic the day JJ gets sent down and everyone is talking about his velocity is down that someone throwing about the same is putting up good numbers.
April 24th, 20126:17 pm
time to go
April 24th, 20126:19 pm
I still say it is JJs shoulder that is the problem. I wish I could find some old video footage to compare his arm slot now vs early 2011. I would bet it is different to relive stress on his shoulder…
April 24th, 20126:21 pm
McFann’s date – are you a double quarter pounder with triple cheese, super sized fries, chocky shake and a large girth ?
April 24th, 20126:22 pm
J-Man, you can’t name a SS in the league who is A) better than we have now and B) someone that his team would trade for JJ….
But go ahead and try…
April 24th, 20126:25 pm
The Fredi quotes following the two games which Gearrin inflated his era…
July 10, 14-1 loss @ Philadelphia, down 4-1 in the 7th:
On Gearrin facing so many lefties:
“It’s a tough situation but that’s what he’s got to do and he just couldn’t get the ball down and they hit some balls pretty hard.”
July 19, 12-3 loss @ Colorado, down 5-1 in the 5th:
On Gearrin’s command abandoning him
“His first time in Coors Field, too. The other day at home, I think he struck out the side, or at least got three right-handed hitters out. He’s had a difficult time getting left-handed hitters out. We need to get him to throw something else, a changeup or something, to get those left-handers off that fastball.”
I think both came at a time when Fredi was trying to conserve his bullpen before the break. Yes. Trying.
@ Wash on July 16th, Gearrin came in the 7th and stuckout the side. Zimmerman, Morse & Werth.
Fredi said, “The bullpen did a nice job.”
April 24th, 20126:28 pm
I know this is blasphemy, but for all who complain about Chip Carey, I would take him any day over the current version of Vin Sculley. It’s television, but he never shuts up. He repeats the same story everytime the same batter comes to the plate. And even after Ross hit the 2nd inning HR, he was still having McCann throwing out base stealers (Actually the last caught stealing he attributed to Ellis). Scully can still probably turn a good phrase, but once he does he will never let go of it.
April 24th, 20126:29 pm
Braves lineup: Bourn CF, Prado LF, Freeman 1B, McCann C, Uggla 2B, Jones 3B, Heyward RF, Pastornicky SS, Minor LH
@J- Man,Like your ideas for upgrading short. But JJ stinks out loud, about all the Braves could get would be some seeds and a used jock.
I like Chip Caray and his dad, god bless him, my absolute fave announcer in ANY world sport was SKIP, RIP mate
April 24th, 20126:30 pm
If he can’t push off properly on his right knee, then he’s not going to generate the velocity he had before – and is probably trying to make up for it by trying to throw harder with his arm – so yeah, could be his shoulder, could be some “dead arm” there – he’s probably experimenting with different arm slots, angles, release points in his hunt to regain form…
Vin Scully still does the first 3 innings of every game on the radio also, so he needs to be more descriptive. And he’s totally alone in the booth, so if he does not talk, there would be long stretches of silence…
And most folks don’t mind listening to him tell stories
April 24th, 20126:31 pm
Yeah, it’s blasphemy.
He sort of fixed the McCann error on the fly.
And just him telling stories, all of which are new to me, is a nice throwback to and era that will soon be gone forever. So, I don’t even try to compare him to the new kids. Nothing to gain by doing so.
April 24th, 20126:32 pm
Well when our starter is hitting .151 so its pretty easy to sat we could get a better option at SS
For years (pretty much my entire childhood and beyond), Vin simulcast all 9 innings, alone, for every game. It’s the only way he knows how to call a game
April 24th, 20126:33 pm
.171, not .151.
If he pulls a 4-4 Uribe style, he’s at .250.
Keep the heat on Diaz, not Pastornicky.
April 24th, 20126:34 pm
…like I said, you can’t NAME one….also, JJ will be a FA at the end of this year, no team will give up a starting SS for him at this point in the year…you can dream, but it’s not going to happen.
April 24th, 20126:35 pm
Actually, JJ will not be a free agent until 2014
lol CBS sports site has “Larry back in the lineup for Braves.”
If it wasn’t for the guaranteed money, Jordan Parraz would have beaten out Diaz in spring training…
April 24th, 20126:36 pm
Vin Scully is just bloody good, so bloody good, tip your hat and move onto some other old man to criticize I say
April 24th, 20126:39 pm
Actually, to quote DOB:
“Same goes for a player’s value when he hits free agency (Jurrjens could be a free agent after the 2013 season, provided he doesn’t spen more than about two months in the minors between now and then (that’s my rough estimate after figuring his service time).”
I was pretty sure it was this year…but it’s definitely not 2014. Either way, no team will give up much for him at this point…especially not a starting SS.
April 24th, 20126:40 pm
Terry red card was a Nancy Boy decision
Could’ve been a yellow – not malicious or violent. The crowd and his repu tation played a part in it. But why do it at all – away from the ball – just silly from a captain. Him missing the finals is justice in a way.
April 24th, 20126:41 pm
According to baseball-reference.com the earliest JJ can be a free agent is 2014.
This is only his 2nd arb eligible year.
April 24th, 20126:42 pm
Snotboogie, the side ref made 2-3 decisions all a bit negative in the scheme of things vs Chelsea and in the spirit of ANZAC Day tomorrow, screw the Turks
April 24th, 20126:45 pm
JNick, most teams looking for relief pitching. If braves woud do it they could get a SS. However I doubt it will happen.
After 2013 is the 2014 season, JNick.
April 24th, 20126:46 pm
Ernie Sr., Pete van Wieren, Skip all excelled because of a lot of reasons – one being that they followed probably the most unlikable announcer ever in Milo Hamilton. I’ll never forgive him for demanding to be the announcer every time Henry Aaron came to bat with a chance to break the HR record.
But if JJ doesn’t show any positive sign the Braves will have to non-tender him, Just no way they can gamble on him for around 7-8 million in 2013 after ARB
Snotboogie – Apparently the BARCA squad is still at the Camp Nou, passing the ball around because ‘possession matters’. Messi still missing. #FindLionel
April 24th, 20126:47 pm
Folks scoffing at the Pedroia trade …
Peds at 2B
Uggla to LF
Prado to SS
’cause we all know ‘Teen can play a mean SS.
April 24th, 20126:48 pm
About a week ago on this blog a presented this question “Suppose Delgado pitches great in his next two starts and JJ pitches the same as he has been, Would Wren send JJ down and keep Delgado:, I got eat up by several bloggers saying “No way Ralph they give up on JJ this soon”, where are all those people now?
April 24th, 20126:49 pm
keylargo – I will always favour SKIP over all else, especially following him from Australia, Africa, UK and Asia etc over the years, he made watching/listening to baseball a pleasure
Grace under Pressure
April 24th, 20126:50 pm
“where are all those people now?”
In happy land!
April 24th, 20126:51 pm
I hope that Jair gets it back, still not convinced that he is healthy but in time the real truth will come out.
@Phil—John Sterling is the most aggravating baseball announcer in the game. Chip—Not that bad. Not great but could be worse.
April 24th, 20126:52 pm
Apparently the BARCA squad is still at the Camp Nou, passing the ball around because ‘possession matters’.
Dude!! You do realise that you are saying that to an Arsenal fan, right?
They played liked us – no plan B. Slow, tippy tappy, footy.
April 24th, 20126:53 pm
Remember that Cliff Lee was sent to the minors a few yrs ago when he was with Cleveland and once he got back the rest is history.
Jair is taking it like a man, so unless he is not healthy me thinks he bounces back. If not here, somewhere else.
April 24th, 20126:55 pm
one being that they followed probably the most unlikable announcer ever in Milo Hamilton
My cousin called me one night, a long time ago, he was drunk and arguing with some guy about Hank Aaron. So he says to me, yada yada yada, about Aaron, is that right, I say yeah, then he says I told this guy you are Milo Hamilton, tell him you are and I’m right. So I did.
April 24th, 20126:56 pm
Why do so many old time Braves fans dislike Milo Hamilton so much?
I was not here in the early 70’s so I do not remember him with the Braves but have heard some of his Astro broadcasts and he is not so bad.
I am getting used to Jim Powell, but its just not the same. He has a good broadcasting voice, keeps up well with the plays but its tough for him following the legends and traditions we have had.
April 24th, 20126:58 pm
Hey- first we had Alien Tornado and now, Space Twister! I love Sci-Fi Channel…
McFann, that’s wrong to tease like that Especially this early
April 24th, 20126:59 pm
I will commit blasphemy in that I personally have never been a big Vin Scully fan even 30 yrs ago with his National Broadcasts.
I did not like Chick Hearn with the Lakers, and I admit I have an anti-L.A. and NY bias. I hate everything that NY and L.A. teams stand for.
tip your hat and move onto some other old man to criticize I say
hmmm…nolie or Venice Jim?
One tater, two tater, three tater, four…
five tater, six tater, viagra in the drawer.
April 24th, 20127:00 pm
Sorry, what do LA teams “stand for” ?
Instead of another reliver called up which we do not need right now our bull pen is well rested why did they not call up JC Boscan so David Ross could be used at anytime as a pinch hitter he has the hottest bat on the bench
April 24th, 20127:01 pm
VJ’s not that old, especially compared to nolie
April 24th, 20127:02 pm
Personally i’m not worried about JJ, we have a surplus of pitching and JJ has a surplus of money.
We do need another reliever…Hernandez is not available tonight and most likely not tomorrow either
McFann :Ô: :Ô:
bravesgrl4life that’s wrong to tease like that Especially this early
What’d I do…?
April 24th, 20127:03 pm
Suppose Delgado pitches great in his next two starts _ Ralph
Pat yourself on the back for being half right. Delgado has not been great
April 24th, 20127:04 pm
We have Medlen and Martinez available.
Now, if they’ll just send Chipper packing so they can have an everyday player………….
April 24th, 20127:06 pm
“Sorry, what do LA teams “stand for” ?”
Standing O when Metta World Peace goes off.
Sorry, McFann, it was somebody sort of highjacking your name – McFann’s date. Something about a huge announcement around teh all-star break. I just saw “McFann”. Goes to show how tired I am. Didn’t get a lot of sleep last night thinking about that missing kid. And all the while, he was safe at home after 10:15. Oh well, better to be concerned, right?
And did not mean to post it 3 times. Jeez, maybe I ought to skip dinner and just go to sleep.
@bravesgrl4life Something about McFann ? lol
Milo was a jerk as well as a crappy announcer.
April 24th, 20127:08 pm
Standing O when Metta World Peace goes off
Which really has nothing to do with the team, or any other team or fans in LA…
Blog is a lil’ wonky today… could be about to blow.
Remember the Random Post Order of 2011? Wild times.

“From the previous blog which had 2,005 comments, count_schemula led the way with 131 posts.”
@ Jnick I cant name 1 ………I named 5 SS if you bother to look up . Now will it be a straight swap for JJ not necessarily but I think ally the American League teams I mentioned would be inteested.
April 24th, 20127:11 pm
No. Because again, you are lumping every fan of every sport in Los Angeles with a tiny number of stupid or terrible people.
Ralph, JJ nor Delgado should be in rotation. Go with Hudson and Medlen and they will be fine.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
