Kimbrel has some fun with Auburn great Bo Jackson

Braves closer Craig Kimbrel couldn’t resist telling Bo Jackson he was an Alabama fan before going out to catch Wednesday’s ceremonial first pitch from the former Heisman trophy winner from Auburn.

“I said, ‘Don’t throw it in the dirt just because I’m an Alabama fan,’” said Kimbrel, a native of Huntsville, Ala. “He kind of laughed at me. He said, ‘I’m going to throw something, but I’m not going to tell you what it is.’ It was cool just to be able to do that.”

Jackson threw the pitch a little up and away but got it to Kimbrel in easy fashion. He was in Atlanta promoting a 300-mile bike ride he’s participating in to raise money for the Alabama tornado victims.

“This is about the state of Alabama,” Jackson said. “There is no room in there for Roll Tide or War Eagle.”

Bo could fool more hitters than JJ right now. He needs to go to Gwinnett and figure it out.

DOB, you do know that Jurrjens is expendable. We have 5 good pitchers when Hudson comes back. Delgado has the most wins on the team, Beechy, and Minor are pitching great and Hanson is consistant. So when Hudson comes back Jurrjens isnt needed. Also we have Medlin, Livan Hernandez and Julio Teheran that could pitch better than Jurrjens at the moment. I think Jurrjens needs to go on the DL and then be traded. Also JJ used to throw 94 but he now rarely will throw over 88.
Let me ask you DOB is Jair Jurrjens still hurt, because he has lost a considerable amount of velocity since last year.

This is crazy. The Braves will not give up on JJ at this point in the season. He has only started 3 games. He has a career ERA under 3.5. As for trading him, the Braves would be giving him up for nothing right now. There would be no value received.

Now you know why Baltimore didn’t want Jurrjens in any package deal for Adam Jones.

Wren won’t allow them to send JJ down because if he is still looking at trading him then it would seriously downplay his trade value in my opinion.

JJ has structural damage in his shoulder….guaranteed. 88 may be slow for a major leaguer but when you are working on a bum wheel for as long as he did last year, you overcompensate with your arm and upper body. Major league pitchers HAVE to have strong legs to be able to generate the velocity needed to get it into the high 80’s or above. When the part of the body breaks down, everything else goes with it and it eventually leads to damage in the elbow or shoulder. At this point its pretty clear JJ and the Braves aren’t being truthful about his health and are hoping its a mechanical issue. That may be the case but it isn’t likely.

Kimbrel just got downgraded for being a Bama fan. Of course all the sidewalk fans in Alabama loooove the Turd….er Tide.

He has insisted the knee feels good. As I said here during spring training, I talked to a scout from an AL team who watched a couple of his spring starts and said word among other teams is that the knee is a chronic condition, that it’s not going to improve. Again, I’m just repeating what he told me, not what any doctor has told me and not what Braves or Jurrjens have said.
