Ugh… The Mets. How?
April 16th, 20129:42 pm
http://wp.me/p2lqJ1-49 New at Brave Decisions!
April 16th, 20129:57 pm
Fredi said,” Hanson did a good job”…Was he watching the same game as fans .
April 16th, 201210:02 pm
Hanson and Jurrjens are really good for 5 innings right now.
April 16th, 201210:03 pm
4 Ughs….. 0-4 to start the season against the eeeee-vil Mets!
Sometimes you have to tip your cap.
April 16th, 201210:09 pm
Going back to last season, the Mets truly have the Braves’ number! We have 5 losses and four come from the Mets. The bulk of their wins come courtesy us! Losing a parcel of games to one team in your own division is never good.
April 16th, 201210:12 pm
What are the odds that the braves will go 0 and 16 against the mets this season? I have seen no fight in the braves what so ever when they have squared off agains the mets.
April 16th, 201210:18 pm
Cap is Tipping,,
April 16th, 201210:22 pm
hanson is really our stopper …of winning streaks lol
April 16th, 201210:28 pm
totally unprepared again. Please fire all bearded pitchers and managers. How many more decades do the braves have to pay Uggla? I realize that I am stupid and no nothing about baseball, but I know what Stinks.
April 16th, 201210:29 pm
Please note: Uggla BA .211; Bourn BA .244. These numbers won’t get it done. Oh, and Hanson was awful against Davis. Whose call to throw 5 curveballs in a row? Is that McCann’s bad? the benches? Or Hanson’s?Terrible pitch calling and selection (not to mention, execution). Braves are 0 for the division.
April 16th, 201210:30 pm
i tell you, this lame-ass attitude has got to go. I get giving Wright the BB but throwing Ike 5 straight curve balls is like shooting ducks in a barrel. All he had to do is get square on the 4th or 5th look at the curve and it will go without a lot of effort. We played like the AAA club that we are tonight. Hinske at 1st the whole game?? This had the look and feel of another poorly managed FG game….
April 16th, 201210:31 pm
What does BMFT on Hanson’s glove stand for?
April 16th, 201210:32 pm
ya win some and you lose some, but Durbin and Hernandez are not good enough to pitch in the MLB..
April 16th, 201210:37 pm
You had to know when they brought Livan in in the 7th (I think) that FG was throwing in the towel. He and Durbin together wouldn’t make one good pitcher must less relievers on any other team. There should be a pool on when the two of them get waived….
April 16th, 201210:38 pm
Errors and Excuses.Let the excuses begin. It will be the same with all the better teams.Think win a few lose a lot.
April 16th, 201210:43 pm
We dont have any pitcher that cn consistantly go over 5 innings and we will lose tomorrow and might get swept again by the Mets……But hey tip your cap
April 16th, 201210:45 pm
10 games in
April 16th, 201210:46 pm
I think we should tip our caps to the Mets.
April 16th, 201210:47 pm
How are we losing to the stinkin’ Mets and their mediocre team of nobodies?
Lil' Barry Bailout (Unexpectedly Revised Downward)
April 16th, 201210:48 pm
The Braves faux “big arms” and same-ol’ lame-ol’ offense won’t even be in position to collapse in September. They’ll be looking up at at least two teams.
April 16th, 201210:49 pm
Well at least we only have 14 more games to lose to the mets
April 16th, 201210:53 pm
5 and 5. Realistic that we could be 5 and 7 by Wed. night. and the fun just keeps on comin’. This team is way too fragile to put up a fight. Why? These guys look like a bunch of players in a uniform versus a cohesive fun-loving bunch of guys playing for a team that loves to win…
If nothing else, what else is Freddi’s job but getting the 9 guys on the field to play as a team??
April 16th, 201210:54 pm
Too bad we only play the Brewers and Astros 6 games each because we are gonna get beat up in the NL East. How do we lose 4 in a row to the Mets?????????? Hello (Herm Edwards voice)
This is the main reason why Fredi Gonzalez deserves to be fired. Why is Jack Wilson in the game.and another thing that needs to be mentioned is with these crazy shifts put on our Brave players, why dont they try to go the opposite way like when Hinske had runners on and he had noone except Wright on the Left side of the infiend……To many selfish ABs and guys swing for the fences. We need a more firery manager to call this out and bench selfish players.
April 16th, 201210:55 pm
Jurrgens used to throw fastball low 90’s and Hanson 94mph. Now Jurrgens is 87-88 and Hanson 88-90. I’m a little concerned!
April 16th, 201210:59 pm
@ Marc Ive pointed this out numerous times and all I get is people that dont know what I’m talking about. Jurrjens hasnt pitched well since late June and Hanson hasnt been the same since August
April 16th, 201211:03 pm
I could’ve sworn I saw Mike Hampton and Dan Kolb pitching tonight.
April 16th, 201211:04 pm
Is there anyone on the Braves with an attitude? Who’s our Jason Varitek ready to shove it in A-Rod’s face? What team are we such rivals with that there’s a good chance of the benches emptying any time we play them?
The Braves have no swagger, no attitude, no balls. They’ve got nothing real going for them.
They’re a big yawn.
Is Hanson using his new delivery, or was that project stopped in spring training?
April 16th, 201211:08 pm
@ lil Barry look at their Manager…..all he does is tip his hat. This team plays like cap tipping chokers they have no heart no fire no hell raiser. I’ll tell you this team just has no since of urgency
April 16th, 201211:10 pm
Someone name me 3 players in the Majors worse than Jack Wilson. Pretty hard, eh.
April 16th, 201211:14 pm
Jack Wilson is new Nate McClouth.
Seriously…if Braves win next 25 in a row…
Get rid of Fredi…the man is brain dead…or a robot..he’s just too ???? to be a baseball mgr. in this day & age.
April 16th, 201211:24 pm
Attitude reflect leadership… hat tipping & complacency.
April 16th, 201211:28 pm
Typical…the Braves play a good team and then the “real” Braves show up. They beat up on the Brewers and now it’s back to reality.
April 16th, 201211:30 pm
Hate to say it but Jack Wilson is a better fielder than Pastornicky is right now. Pastornicky should have spent at least another year in the minors. everytime a ball is hit to him, I cringe. Will he catch it or not? I can’t believe that bone head throw of Hanson. Roger Mcdowell must be proud of himself teachin TH to throw differently. When is mcdowell going to go. When will a braves pitcher u nder his tutorledge going to go more than 5 innings. Enough of mcdowell When is freddie Freeman going to stop hugging the other players and show some anger and attitude. His California attitude is grating.
April 16th, 201211:33 pm
@lil barry I agree. This team acts like a robot. Somebody , anybody needs to get mad, do something, show they are alive. It’s like they show up for a regular job and leave. Bobby was the king of getting ejected. I don’t think all those were for questionable calls, sometimes he would get ejected just to try and motivate the team or give them a shot of adrenaline. We need our swagger back!
April 16th, 201211:38 pm
0-4 versus mets and the braves have yet to see the nats, quite scary right now
I think Hanson is a bit overrated. He’s been around long enough to be able to make the pitch he needed to get out of the inning. He didn’t. But Gee did. My bet against a colleague who is a Mutts fan is not looking good now.
April 16th, 201211:42 pm
DOB, please tell me the players are just messing with us now with the cap-tipping thing.
April 17th, 201212:54 am
I know it was the right decision. He just hit it out.’
Eh, transmission received garbled. Walk a guy to give up a 3 run dinger is not the right decision. Sorry.
April 17th, 20121:06 am
Every time one those losers say ‘TIP YOUR CAP’ I could SCREAM!!
April 17th, 20121:12 am
Was at the game tonight and it was terrible. Hanson rarely got above 89 mph on the fastball all night. And that 73 mph curve that bounced to the plate was nasty, and not in a good way. The offense was missing as well, per usual. As soon as I saw Livan I knew the game was over and the hat had been tipped.
April 17th, 20121:56 am
Piss on the Mets.
April 17th, 20124:24 am
Joe. BMFT on Hanson’s glove stands for Be My Friend Tommy. Brooks Conrad used to say that to him all the time last year, so for some reason he put it on his glove.
April 17th, 20125:06 am
The Braves were not going to be 0-162. They aren’t going to be 5-157. Time for analysis, not panic.
This team is a cut above ‘ok’ with obvious weakness at long and mid relief and right-hand bats. The strengths remain starting pitching, closing and to a degree hitting (just not with RISP – yet). The ‘D’ is ok so far – not great, but ok.
Would you, at this point, proclaim the Mets and the Nats to be the ‘cream’ of the east? If not, don’t proclaim the Braves the worst.
The Braves will be fine and may – MAY – be good enough to make the playoffs.
Check back in late June. But give it at least until then.
April 17th, 20125:09 am
And how do we convince the AJC to get rid of this ‘Meebo’ stuff. Ain’t we got enough crud on the site w/o this extra layer of annoying b.s.?
April 17th, 20125:26 am
So strange how the Braves have all kinds of fire against good teams, like the Brewers, but let the Mets come in and it’s like we are laying down for them to be the Cinderella team this year. Hm, is Frank Wren or someone else eyeing a job in the Big Apple? Nah, just kidding, but it is definintely weird. We played better even in the first game against Houston that was lost. Just seems we have nothing for the Mutts.
April 17th, 20125:45 am
Fredi said,” Hanson did a good job”… For the 10th time this season, please fire Fredi the braindead before it’s too late. We are wasting young talents on this psycho. I realized why he kept saying the same thing about DLowe last september. Fredi is trying to win a popularity contest among players. His main objective is not to win a pennant. What an insecure piece of crap.

[...] Win streak snapped, Braves fall to 0-4 vs. Mets [...]
April 17th, 20126:14 am
Braves VS Mets. Same song, next verse.
This tune sounds too familiar. This tipping your hat crap has to go. That’s close
to bending oner and kissing their donkey. Too close.
Who’s at fault with all the curve balls, pitcher, catcher or manager? Whoever it is,
it sure seems to be dumb, doesn’t it. Part of being a pitcher and not just a thrower
is keeping the batter off balance because he doesn’t know what’s coming. (Guess
we really fooled him, huh!
After the beat down Sunday night, Hawks came back and whipped the boys from
Canada. Can the Braves do the same for the Mets?
Collapse late last season, then do it again against the Mets this season. Too much.
April 17th, 20126:45 am
0-4 against the mutts I told y’all how much I hate the mutts, hated them since 69 when they overtook the the cubbies. come on bravos lets get going beating up on the astros not impressive the princeless brew crew a step up, but you haven’t won in your own division yet.
April 17th, 20126:49 am
“I think it was … I know it was the right decision,” Gonzalez said.
This ^ from your rock solid, decisive manager.
April 17th, 20126:55 am
Uggla: “It’s a funny game. We’ve got to obviously make an adjustment against them, because they’ve kind of put it to us these first four games.”
Uh, Dan, and what kind of “adjustment” do you speak? Regardless of the need or circumstance, you’ve been swinging as hard as you possibly can on every pitch since they day you first picked up a bat.
April 17th, 20126:57 am
maybe he threw 5 straight curve balls because his “fastball ” tops out at 89-90 mph. between Hanson and Jurgens( also 89-90) the braves have the two weakest top of the rotation pitchers in baseball. Good luck with that Fredi….
April 17th, 20127:01 am
Calling for 4 or 5 consecutive, identical curveballs to a major league hitter is beyond stupid by any measure.
McCann is at time just awful calling pitches. In Kimbrel’s last save, he almost cost us the game with this same nonsense. Kimbrell needs to work off of his high 90’s fastball, not his slider. McCann calling for this slider too much gets Kimbrell out of his rythym and he starts walking people.
Ross, by far, is better at calling a game.
April 17th, 20127:05 am
Both Hanson and Jurrjens need to watch what both Minor and Beachy did their last game instead of mimicking the walrus, Hernandez.
April 17th, 20127:09 am
DOB, please tell me the players are just messing with us now with the cap-tipping thing. — glacialspeed
I thought about that last night. It’s possible they might be. If so, can’t blame them. It’s an easy target.
April 17th, 20127:13 am
This Uggla clown is not even hitting his weight. Would Florida take him back??
April 17th, 20127:19 am
Hanson is washed up thanks to injuries. Can no longer throw past 89 MPH, not a good sign for a power pitcher. When was the last time he hit 90 much less the 93 to 95 MPH he used to. Hanson = the new Livan Hernandez.
April 17th, 20127:28 am
I don’t know I keep waiting for Tommy Hanson to be that dominating pitcher that was predicted of him. So far he is probably just a good #3 or 4 starter. To me he hasn’t lived up to the hype yet. I will say it probably is tough pitching knowing if you give up one or two runs the game maybe over. This offense is so inconsistent. It is either feast or famine. Too many lost opportunities
April 17th, 20127:31 am
DOB– I thought Hanson had worked on his delivery/mechanics? That’s what we were told by the media prior to his first start– that his delivery was now much smoother. It looks like the same old herky-jerky stuff to me.
April 17th, 20127:48 am
April 16th, 2012
First, they play 18, not 16.
Second, we’ve seen no fight in them in any game in which they trail.
When they have a lead they usually win. When they don’t they look hopeless.
Anytime they fall behind and have to try to put together runs they fail to have productive at bats.
The moment Ike Davis homered every Braves fan watching (or listening) knew that it was over.
You can’t convince 30,000 people to show up on Monday nights during the season if you can’t prove you’re a changed team than the one that lost eighteen games in September.
Same team, different year. That’s a fact, Jack.
Got to win these types of games a little more often than they do, which is seldom.
Double Zero Eight
April 17th, 20127:49 am
Bring back Leo Mazzone.
Add a big “bat”.
If the Braves maintain the status quo, they will
finish third in the division.
April 17th, 20127:55 am
Who IS the Braves pitching coach now? Hanson needs help!
April 17th, 20128:10 am
You just got to tip your hat to those Mets. Yea, tip it now four times in a row.
April 17th, 20128:14 am
89 Mph by a power pitcher will never get it done, I think his arm is gone.
April 17th, 20128:18 am
losing to the mets is embarrassing–the braves need to pick it up and start beating them regularly.
April 17th, 20128:25 am
you think the mets have the braves #, wait till the nats come to town!!
April 17th, 20128:27 am
Hanson is living in a dream world. His comments each time he loses are pathetic. As long as he utilizes his stupid pause-delivery, he will get lit up by any team hitting against him. Apparently he still thinks that his mechanics are sound and his performance is credible. Not so.
Hanson sucks and management needs to remove him from the mound until he can be useful. I don’t know how he is perceived as a legitimate starter.
April 17th, 20128:28 am
There was a baseball game at Turner Field last night. Apparently, nobody told the Braves players. L. Hernandez came in to give another HR. (Like the other castoff, Durbin spit out more runs on Sunday. The work of Franki Wren continues to pay dividends.) Five breaking balls in a row? Brian and Tommy must be brain dead. 0-4 vs. the Mutts. And the clutch hitters in the 9th…a groundpout and 2 k’s. Typical When the Braves are behind, they’re toast. Oh well….there’s another game tonight. I hope somebody tells Fredi and the boys.
April 17th, 20128:35 am
when the Braves don’t play long ball they don’t score. PLAIN AND SIMPLE. Thats what we have to look forward to for the rest of the year.
Retired 6 years too late
April 17th, 20128:55 am
This Is Bobby-Lite(FG). He was hand picked by BC, JS and FW. No one else interviewed for the Braves Manager opening. This FG could not manage Shiloh High School Baseball team. Hw need to be TIPIN his HAT as he catch Delta back to South Florida. Fire FG,FW. JS and that Dummy McQuirk(sp). Playing Wilson and sitting Freeman is so dumb. Wilson would not be on the roster of many Major League Baseball Team but only on The Cheap Braves. We are the ONLY Major League team, touting Divison Flags Winners. This organization has been a JOKE since Ted went with Time Warner. The fans will say away in huge numbers until FG, FW, JS are gone……………….fired.
April 17th, 20128:56 am
April 17th, 20128:59 am
Ah, good to see all the negative nellies coming out in droves. It must have almost killed you all to have to be quiet when the Braves were winning 5 in a row.
April 17th, 20129:02 am
So…Hanson loses the first series with the Mets after opening…lets just let him open for us again!! Brilliant Freddi. Please bring Bobby back!!
April 17th, 20129:07 am
It’s no wonder the Atlanta Thrashers left town, that’s how many people show up to a Winnipeg Jets game…..THAT’S A HOCKEY ARENA!
What the hell? This is a pretty good team, 5 wins in a row and 16,000 people show up? Atlanta has the worst fans ever.
April 17th, 20129:13 am
During the 5 game winning streak I was wondering where all of you eternal pessimists were. Bet many of you were just praying for a bad outing so you could jump on the “Braves suck” bandwagon. Just a guess, but I suspect a perennial All-Star catcher knows more about calling a game than many of you that got your knowledge from Pee Wee baseball. It must be tough to see Heyward off to a good start after the trashing so many of you have given him the last year. It’s just amazing, not a tenth of the season gone,Braves 2.5 games out at .500 tied with the Phillies and many of you sound like we have the worst team in baseball. Sorry your life sucks so bad- go kick your dog again.
April 17th, 20129:40 am
Wow. Lose one game after winning 5 in a row and now all of a sudden we are the worst team in baseball again. You guys really need a better understanding of the game.
April 17th, 20129:57 am
still too early for jugdement on these braves..by the all-star break then we can start jumping or staying on the bandwagon..GO BRAVES!!!!!!
April 17th, 201210:01 am
It was good to see larry run out all the ground balls he hit last night……HAHAHAHAHA!! still cracking myself up. Must be all that fluid on his knee.
April 17th, 201210:02 am
April 17th, 2012
Who IS the Braves pitching coach now? Hanson needs help!
Taxi Smith…..not THE Taxi Smith are you? If so, congrats on your long ago race “win”!
April 17th, 201210:03 am
Hanson arm is shot
April 17th, 201210:06 am
Just cause you tell it like it is doesn’t mean you’re not a fan. Hanson is not the same Hanson, his fast ball is constantly clocked at 89 mph , 89 mph just can’t get it done unless you’re Maddux.
April 17th, 201210:14 am
Hanson is done, bring back Proctor.
April 17th, 201210:18 am
Hanson’s velocity is way off from last year. His FB is only 88-90. That aint gonna cut it. Not sure why he’s lost the velocity, but its not good
April 17th, 201210:19 am
When you have a line up that is winning, change it. Otherwise you may win too many games. When they dump Hernandez, Durbin and Francisco and replace them with ball players maybe they can win again. Both Prado and Uggly need to start hitting when a hit means somthing good!
April 17th, 201210:20 am
And…the Braves announcers sure aint what they used to be. All the sugar coating, corporate butt kissing is a little sickening.
I sure miss the tell it like it is style of Skip, Pete, etc.
April 17th, 201210:50 am
Chipper Jones will be player manager of this bunch next year
April 17th, 201211:01 am
I was probably on Heyward worse than anyone and so far I was wrong & I hope to goodness that I was REALLY wrong. Keep it up Jason!
April 17th, 201211:17 am
Someone get Hanson a bag of skittles and a hoddie.
April 17th, 201211:27 am
No offense Longtimefan…but every analyst, retired player, and former coach I saw comment on the game last night questioned the several curves in a row last night after Davis had struggled with the fastball. Just because someone criticizes doesn’t make them stupid. Weak argument.
April 17th, 201211:28 am
If the players are screwing around with the “Tip the Cap” comments, that is hilarious – and it helps remind me, there is a long way to go – and the players know it. If they aren’t messing, then it might very well be a looooong season.
April 17th, 201211:32 am
I’m sure Chip Carey and Joe Simpson are nice people, but Gary Cohen and Ron Darling are so much more interesting to listen to…even for a Braves fan. Too bad their feed is blacked out on the MLB package when they’re playing the Braves..
April 17th, 201211:33 am
Let’s just do the obvious ….. lose the braves tag and go with “The Atlanta Cap Tippers.” We could adopt the golden rule as a motto and let Freeman hug all the opposing players as they leave the dougout. Freddie manages like Mark Richt anyway.
April 17th, 201211:43 am
It’s hard to witness the Muts Duda this to us! It just ain’t Wright! We need to get something in the win Collins and get ourselves out of this Thole.
April 17th, 201211:53 am
During the 4 game losing streak I could see the angst but its one loss to a team that is playing good baseball.
I don’t have crazy high hopes for the Braves but we won’t know what we have until the end of April at the earliest.
They may not have been as bad as the open 4 games and probably not as good as the Brewers series.
The Brewers starting pitching sans Greinke is suspect. Their pen is not very good either. Unless they hit a ton of bombs they are are easy mark.
AZ, LA, WAS, STL and the entire AL interleague schedule will be the real test for this club.
So far the schedule has been pretty soft.
The real question will be how long can Chipper’s knees hold out? If he needs them to be drained every 5-6 games he will be done by mid May.
If that happens then they will lose a ton of ballgames. Prado or Juan at 3B and a human book mark in LF won’t get it done.
April 17th, 201212:33 pm
Heyward has been our best player thus far, hands down. So why hit him 6th and 7th in the lineup? He’s getting on, stealing bases, hitting for power, doing everything right. Sounds like a #3 hitter to me. They will stop pitching to him unless he gets some protection in the lineup. I’d follow Heyward with Chipper and McCann and stick Uggla and Freeman in those 6-7 spots.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
