Always a Braves fan, but I suspect those obsessed with them (read: those who post here 40 times per day) are looking at a frustrating summer. Next year, too, if Fredi is retained.

Last year, I was one of those that wanted Venters as the closer instead of Kimbrel. Kimbrel proved me wrong last year and tonight he showed some extra gonads with those 2 strikeouts at the end. Nasty slider.

G-Men drub the BULLS 5-0.

RF JORDAN PARRAZ [.297 BA] 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR [1], 1 RBI [3]

3B JOE TERDOSLAVICH [.231 BA] 1-4, 1 R, 1 HR [2], 2 RBI [6], 1 SO.

1B ERNESTO MEJIA [.306 BA] 2-3, 1 R, 2 2B [2], 1 RBI [5].

C JOSE YEPEZ [.235 BA] 3-4, 1 2B [2], 1 RBI [3].

LF ‘Georgie’ CONSTANZA [.400 BA] 1-4, 1 BB, 1 SO, 1 SB [1].

Lead-off LUIS DURANGO [.292 BA] 1-4, 1 2B [2], 1 BB, 1 SO.

2B DREW SUTTON [.214 BA] 1-4, 1 R.

LHSP YOHAN FLANDE [0.00 ERA] 5.0 Ip, 3 H, zeros, 2 BB, 4 SO. Nice start for the reliefer. Maybe this guy is versatile enough to be the third lefty in the pen AND go long-relief on occasion.

DUSTY HUGHES [1.17 ERA - 2.0 IP - 1 BB - 1 SO] and CORY GEARRIN [0.00 ERA - 2.0 IP -3 SO] combine for a four inning no-hit near perfect ending [1 BB] to the game with a combined 4 SO.

In the Box Score, why is Minor charged with an unearned run? The last batter he faced was Lucroy, who was thrown out at the plate. The runner who scored, (Gamel) was the first batter Venters faced. I realize the run is unearned, but…..am I missing something?

I wondered about it. The only possible explanation I have come up with is that Lucroy was out on a FC. So Lucroy being on the basepaths in some way contributed to the other guy not making an out and, subsequently, scoring. Probably someone will verify this.

Venice Jim

April 14th, 2012
11:22 pm

The unearned run was Minor’s by transference. Venters could have thrown to first to get his own runner rather than home to get Minor’s runner. They call it transference. (per Carroll)

Roman Gal

April 14th, 2012
11:23 pm

That’s a new one for me. I was wondering why Minor was charged with the unearned run instead of Venters.

It still seems a little iffy, though…

Snotboogie

April 14th, 2012
11:25 pm

A minor gripe about Fredi – if he had used Medlen for 2 innings yesterday, he could’ve gotten by with using only one of EOF or Venters yesterday. And he could’ve used the other today. Medlen’s second inning wouldve been against RHH and so EOF didnt have any inherent advantage. Just some ways he can save the 3 arms at the end. How he uses the bullpen tomorrow is going to be interesting.
