Does anybody miss Schafer?

yes. From yesterday’s blog, I made a comparison of the games started by Schafer and Bourn for the Braves last year. (Bourn started each of the games he played as a Brave, but I wasn’t able to distinguish between games Schafer started and those he appeared in as a late inning replacement — just used the games played as if he played the whole game.)

Bourn vs Schafer in 2011 for Braves

G AB R BB RBI SB CS OBP OPS
Schafer 52 196 32 18 7 15 4 .307 623
Bourn 53 227 30 15 18 22 7 .321 .674

R.G Schafer = 0.615 Bourn = 0.567
R/PA Schafer = 32/214 = 0.149 Bourn = 30/242 = 0.124 (PA = AB+BB)

SB/ATT Schafer = 15/19 = 0.789 Bourn = 22/29 = 0.758

These number are almost a wash. One player the blog was glad to get rid of, the other many would sign to a multiyear deal at 10+ million/year. Schafer has off field issues, but just as a player, he appears to be better value for the price for a longer period of time

Delgado is a good reason to believe that spring training stats don’t mean anything. So far.

Greetings and salutations from the City of Brotherly Love

Haven’t talked to you guys in a dog’s life. Well, looks like both cities had equally miserable Falls and Winters. We were looking for the Sixers to provide some relief but……….you’re REALLY in trouble when you’re counting on the Sixers for help.

Well, the Phillies, being the oldest group of athletes this side of the PGA Seniors Tour decided to go the youth route for some pop. So we signed Thome

Exactly!!!!!!

So, best of luck on the season to my favorire bunch of baseball knuckleheads.

And keep the faith

Mutts are still the Mutts
Nats are overrated
Marlins pitching could be a problem but Reyes knees will give out any minute
We got problems

Wish Freeman and Uggla had brought some of those spring training home runs with them. Well, maybe later.

Uggla hasn’t hit at all so batting him 4th is not deserved.
