The ones with sense knew this was coming back in October when the previous book was closed.
Nothing changed on the field other than getting rid of Gonzo and his pathetic bat. We miss his glove, but it made little difference then, so by definition would make little difference now.
With the same wild, free-swinging hackers on the field, why WOULD it get better? The law of averages argument certainly isn’t applying to the economy, the housing market and so forth this time, so why should it automatically appply to our hitting?
Minnesota and Atlanta are the only winless teams in MLB. I think the Braves will win tonight, but Minnesota might be a while. I actually think they’re worse than the Braves.
So tired of the “Its a long season” comments after early season losses. If the Braves had won one more early season last yr they would have been in a one game playoff with the Cards. If they had won two early season games last yr they would have been the wildcard team. I know there are a lot of games but each win is important. To negate a loss by saying there are many more games to play is becoming an invalid point now.
DOB is an utter hack.He won’t publish quotes because of how bad they make his friend look. A “reporter” that lacks integrity to even ask the proper questions. What a hack

Sam, your mind is misfiring this morning. Try getting some exercise and eating something other than doritos for breakfast.
He stopped the quotes on Sunday because the tide of opinion here was that they’re a waste of time. Which they were because the folks being quoted have nothing new or original to say. Who wants to keep reading “we’ll get em tomorrow” and other such empty bull?
Apparently you do, so go read the main write up on the game and get your fill.
DOB is an utter hack. He won’t publish quotes because of how bad they make his friend look. A “reporter” that lacks integrity to even ask the proper questions. What a hack — Sam
Truly remarkable. A small contingent that has taken over the comments on this blog is gaining infamy around Braves Nation (often referred to on Twitter, other blogs, etc). And this particular quote is absolutely the perfect example of why. I mean, I couldn’t have written this comment myself to better represent all that is wrong on the blog.
Will the exercise in mediocrity continue/The answer is yes..Once again Fredi with all the wrong movies. An old baseball saying is the wins in April are just as important as wins in Sept.DOB here is another musical question from our rock n roll vault..How Long from ACE……
DOB said on Sunday that he wouldn’t do the quote since a bunch of idiots were hassling him about it being the same thing day after day. Well, at least it takes that part of his very busy plate.
…catcher Brian McCann said. “We’ve just got to bounce back tomorrow and be ready to play…. They found the holes when they needed to. It stinks.
“Tomorrow’s a new day. We’ve got to get a win.”
Wow, that sure sounds familiar. Unfortunately, Brian, you guys have been waiting for tomorrow for two lousy (baseball) months now and it still hasn’t come yet. I know, instead of waiting for tomorrow to actually resemble a decent team maybe you could try winning today instead? What a novel idea, huh?
I record the away games with my DVR and fast-forward through the commercials. After last nights disastrous 3-error inning in which we lost the lead, I began to fast forward through the rest of the game. Apparently I didn’t miss much.
Now you know why Bobby retired. He and FW didn’t see eye to eye on which players to get and how and when to play them and FG just hasn’t got the stones to do what he wants, so FW is running the team at the field level as well as stinking up the front office.
Oh by the way, the Braves losing trend started when the traded for Jack Wilson, who has never been in a playoff game. He probably couldn’t even get in to one if he bought tickets….
Freddy is the most unemotional manager in Baseball. Get thrown out once in a while, you boob! And where is it written that we have to run Livan out every night? Oh how I miss Bobby!
If it bothers you this bad. STOP go to the Ted and STOP watching the games. I was done watching them after game 2 of this year. Time to panic over something you can’t control. LOL.
BTW… Saying stuff like “dinrking the Kool Aid and Rose colored glasses” is just LAME.
DOB – Something is very wrong with this team internally. Most of us here know it. Obviously you know it. At the same time, you can’t possibly throw it all out there for obvious reasons.
I don’t envy your position. Thanks for your efforts though. You do an outstanding job that the vast majority appreciate.
How could any Braves fan have a problem with DOB or Mark Bowman?
The Braves are among the best covered items in this entire media market.
I don’t see how anyone can take umbridge with the coverage. It’s fair, it’s indepth and you even get good music reviews out of this blog. This blog is awesome. What are you looking for out of the coverage here?
Fire Fredi Gonzalez, release Livan H., Durbin, Francisco, Diaz, Wilson, Heyward, Bourne, Uggla,
McCann, Costanza . Freeman, Prado, Ross and most of their pitchers are the only major leagurers on this team.
Yep, and same old regurgitations from phil, alexis, Larry, Moe, Curly, Ralph, etc., etc, ad nauseum…. another year wasted by not learning jacksheet about baseball, threatening to leave (please, be puddies of your word… a puddie is always judged by her ability to keep her word) but having not the heuvos to do it, and setting a shining example for posterity on how to be the blubberingest fan that ever walked… you guys never, ever, come on here to post when the Braves win, but jump at any chance to show how much you THINK you know… alexis, I’ve told everyone about the binkies you keep, and how you’ll be a big girl and share, but we all know about widdle puckerbutted girls like you… pill, when are you and Ralph and Larry gonna man up and quit following a team you hate so much? Quit talking about it and DO IT… Let’s try this one more time… YOU HATE THE BRAVES… WE KNOW… YOU HATE FREDI… WE KNOW… YOU THINK YOU COULD MANAGE… WE KNOW… YOU”RE NOT HAPPY UNLESS YOU CAN CRY ABOUT SOMETHING OUT OF YOUR CONTROL…. WE KNOW… MAN UP!!! LEAVE LIKE YOU SAY YOU WILL!

What strikes me as odd is that as soon as Uggla, Fransciso, Hernandez, et Al. start having decent games and producing, the same people who are crying for Freddi to be removed from office will be singing his praises.
I think part of the problem was the overuse of many of the “younger” ball players during spring training when the “team” should have been on the field from the start in order to get things working.
The pitching is there. The defense is there. The bats are somewhere. I think the team just needs a little time to adjust and get back in the swing of things. Wasn’t it something like two or three years ago that they had a 16 game loosing streak in April and they finished second in the division?
What certainly doesn’t help is fans crying every time the team looses and saying that its last season all over again. If we the fans believe that, the team will believe that.
Why in the Sam Hill is Livan Hernandez on the Braves roster? Is there no minor leaguer in the pipeline that can throw harder than 80? The dude couldnt get out a good high school team. Geez.
The braves have not had a pitching coach since Cox ran Mazzone off. Maybe Fredi has decided to bypass McDowell an allow Hernandez to teach Medlen a good off speed pitch.
The fans deserve an apology. Freddi does need to be fired. We’re still collapsing. He had his chance, he’s proven he cannot win. See ya. Bye. Don’t let the door hit ya where the Lord split ya…..
Francisco is a minor league DH……good pick up Wren…and the Hernandez grab is without question an absolute BUST….keep it up Wren….dang, I thought I’d never say this, I can’t wait to see old Achy Breaky Jones back at 3rd
“…catcher Brian McCann said. “We’ve just got to bounce back tomorrow and be ready to play…. They found the holes when they needed to. It stinks.” <- This is the same
Realistically I think the Braves can go .500 this year or better, no doubt it’ll require a few changes along the way but it’s doable. Don’t count on playoffs or anything crazy like that but I can foresee a winning season.
When people say “blow the team up…. Let’s just start over” What exactly do they want the Braves to do right now after only 4 games?? Start trading players away and be the laughing stock of Baseball for giving up on the 4th youngest team in baseball??? This isn’t a video game you can’t just trade players every other day just for fun… Sure we haven’t looked good so far, but it’s been 4 games if they keep playing like we are then they’ll make trades and you’ll probably complain about them like you do about everything!!!!
Look on the bright side.
People had been saying not to get too optomistic early in the season when they were playing the worst teams in baseball — that things would get worse when they started playing the good teams.
Cheer up – AT LEAST, NOW THINGS WON’T GET ANY WORSE WHEN THEY START PLAYING GOOD TEAMS.
The braves aren’t going to sign anybody to a long term contract worth millions. They just aren’t. McCann is going to be gone because the Braves can’t pay him what the market will bear. Prado is the same. Bourn is the same. Why would they want to play in Atlanta in it’s current situation? The TV deal is worse than terrible. Fans aren’t and won’t attend games. There is no way to increase revenue because Schuerholtz signed the worst TV deal in the world. Things are only going to get worse because Liberty won’t allow total salaries to increase. There is just no way to get money to sign big name players. Big names won’t be paid to play here and so the Atlanta Braves will remain irrelavent. I don’t ever see any great players coming to Atlanta to play. The economics of the situation are plain to see. I love the Braves and hate the fact that they will soon be the Pittsburgh Pirates. It’s painful to go through for sure.
I think the Braves need new leadership. I don’t think Fredi is the man for the job. I hope he proves me wrong.
Taking an 82 mph pitcher who has been a starter for 15 years and making him a reliever makes no sense whatsover. I blame Chipper and Wren. Chipper is eating 14 million to play 110 games and hit .260/15/50. That is ridiculous. Are we here to be fair to Chipper or to the team?? Are they the Atlanta Braves or the Chipper Braves?? Montana, Favre, Manning, Emmit Smith, all HOF players who finished their careers elsewhere for the betterment of the organization. THis team won’t do squat until they can use that money for a legit bat.
Wren ridiculously overpaid for Lowe and KK and they are ridiculously overpaying Chipper right now.
i feel that soon the braves are going to dump salary and look at this season as a rebuilding year. chippers swan song wont be very fun, and alot of guys on the current roster wont be there in 3 months. this team cant hit a lick, other teams are gonna run out a ton of lefties and kill them every night. this team cannot hit well with runners in scoring position. the plus side is the starting pitchers are going to do well, but if you cant score runs, its gonna be a very long season for braves fans. the only way to right the ship is to go on a 9 game winning streak! this would take care of most of there problems. i just know this team is not capable of doing that!!! i have been a braves fan for over 20 years and i have to say this is the first team i have seen that has the potential to lose 100 games. its a shame because they have decent team….just no heart and a manager and general manager who make excuses.
mcangeli @10:43am……”the same people”….”will be singing his praises”
No mcangeli, they will not be here singing his praises, when the Braves start winning, THEY will not be here.
This blog now has 446 hits, if the Braves would have won the first four games, there would be around maybe 50 or 60 hits on this blog right now.
It’s pathetic, but that’s the way it is.
Everyone has a right to their opinion, though.
GO BRAVES! Get some hits!!

Braves need a drmatic shakeup starting with the front office. Both JS and Wren are responsible for the state of the Braves and should be the first to go with Fredi following them out the door.

Chipper…hurry up and get back!!! We finally get some timely hitting and our stand-in third baseman (which I will never understand why we got him) blows the game along with our reliever. Where is Kimbrel, Ventors, O’Flare??? Guys, you get a lead…PROTECT IT! Go for the win with the best you have. Forget this guy at third. Bring in Prado and send Constanza to the outfield. Where is the coaching. BASICS…BASICS…BASICS!!!! Can you tell I am frustrated???

Well, there’s always the Gwinnett Braves, the Rome Braves, the Mississippi Braves (if you’re willing to drive that far). At least the guys in the minors are still hungry and haven’t been corrupted (yet) by the “tip your cap and be resigned to certain doom” mentality that’s plagued this team since a certain hanging slider by Mark Wohlers got deposited over the left field wall at old Fulton County Stadium in the ‘96 World Series…..
Its early in a 162 game season so the Braves can bounce back but what worries me is they have played like this the last month of last year and all spring training. The washed up players they added are no help.I hope the Braves can turn it around and its not back to the days of the season is over at the all star break.Braves fans complain about all the missed chances in the 90s and early 2000s but at least they were in the running.I have got a feeling the braves are about to go through a bad down cycle. And in 5 years us Braves fans will look to those years and say I wish we were in first and in the running for the playoffs.I hope i am wrong but the writing is on the wall back to the late 80s no matter i supported the braves then and i will support the braves know.Go Braves!!!
Its true, these are the same group of heartless chokers that couldn’t get one clutch hit in a month to win one game last year.Real problem? Most of the roster has diminishing skills. From pitchers that have lost velocity,a bench full of guys no contender would think twice about acquiring, and several starters that are overrated or over the hill.Just a bad team.
What strikes me as odd is that as soon as Uggla, Fransciso, Hernandez, et Al. start having decent games and producing, the same people who are crying for Freddi to be removed from office will be singing his praises.
No, they won’t be singing FG’s praises anytime before the Bravos win the World Series. My comment is not necessarily restricted to the folks on this blog but that just seems to be a very widely held belief by certain baseball fans regardless of the manager or the team. Generally speaking, it seems that when the home team wins the credit goes to the players. When the home team loses it’s all on the manager.
Personally, while I do believe that Fredi Gonzalez is far from blameless in this hapless play dating back to last September, the players have just as much blame to share in this as the manager. Just an observation as it is far from hopeless after only four games in but it would be nice to see some offense and/or defense from the Braves befitting of a MLB team. And soon, please?
All the comments we are hearing and we have heard them time and time again.Years ago in Football it was Steve Bartkowski,June Jones and Harmon Wages talking about regrouping.I still remember when Pendleton walked off the field and got his teamates attention.who is getting their attention in 2012.Are we destined to revert back to 1988,,Who has an Answer. It is clear the Braves front office is just as frustrated as we are..Where is Ted Turner when you need him most.I am sure Liberty media is lowering the asking price on the Braves daily!
Cheer up guys. Fredi wants to lose a large amount of games and then come back and win the World Series so he can get a Manager of the Year certificate. Twitter: @heywards_bat
No, pill… it’s like this… I enjoy the game and everything about it… I enjoy the pace… I enjoy the fact that it eats up such a long time in a season and serves as an ongoing diversion to the ups and downs of life…I understand that it is a game in which a hit in 3 out of 10 trys is considered superior, and from that realize that most of the time a hitter is going to fail… I understand that it is one of the hardest games to play when you reach a level above little league, and realize that for every single person on a team to be clicking at the same time does not last an entire season… I understand it is a beautiful game of streaks, and that I can vicariously live and cheer and empathize with said streaks… I understand that to be a fan, I must ride along with the streaks and realize that EVERY team goes through their ups and downs… I understand that to call myself a fan, I should SUPPORT my team when things aren’t going well…. I’ve always told people who don’t like baseball that it’s such a beautiful game… that one can witness or experience the full range of human emotion in a single contest…
You, on the other hand, along with your fellow armchair 20-20 hindsight blibberots, see it as an outlet to vent your own personal shortcomings by never cheering but looking for anything that you can cry about, pissandmoan about, and try to convince your fellow morons that you could do better…You seem to wait for a loss so you can spew your same old whiney remarks… And I need a psychiatrist? Anyone who follows a team, calls it their own (referring to them as “we”), and does nothing but cry like a baby about it is the person who needs serious help… you guys remind one of the idiot listeners to talk radio… Sorry, Chumley, but it’s you, not I, who doesn’t understand baseball and needs help now…
Last night was tough but I still think this is a good team I agree Fransisco does have defensive issues but the braves will prove all of us wrong and will right the ship on the Positive Pastornicky is playing well it was good to see him get his first RBI last night.
GO BRAVES!
Maybe it’s just me…but at times I feel like we’d be better off with Scott Proctor over Durbin or Hernandez…they all can’t work a scoreless inning to save their lives but at least Proctor can score some runs for you..
Lobo sucko, Lobo dodo, Lobo doodoo, or what ever that silly name is,
You know, it is amazing out of a million sperm cells you were the fastest to the egg. But, even the most ignorant and profoundly inferior pinheads like you can become offsping, may we suggest you and your 2-3 butt lick supporters on here just simply go away! Few like you already and even fewer think you have the aptitude of a snell!
I can’t see the braves getting better…… the pitchers have to be perfect….. look at this if verlander was our pitcher he would have never wont the cy award because of teh lack of hitting… the braves dont have a reliable 1-2 punch anymore they have a AA 1-2 punch……COME ON BRAVES FIRE WREN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and FREDDI!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isn’t it amazing guys , we heard all winter long that Jason Heyward lost like 20lbs, reported to camp slim, lean, powerful, etc
and has worked so heard with his new batting instructor that this was going to be the J-HEY we all come to expect…
Well, he hit .200 in spring training against minor league pitching and he hasn’t hit to start the season either…
Lets face it, this guy is as over-hyped as the Braves made the signing of Fredi Gonzalez so over-hyped as the “perfect fit to
replace Cox, …” ” a seamless transition”….”an all around great guy and SMART baseball man”…..et patati et patata……blah
blah,blah…
Now that first paragraph makes abundant sense, Lobosolo. I could not agree more. You are absolutely right.
Frustration is being vented here. Other crud too, of course, but mostly frustration.
Ups and downs are of course a part of life and all sports. That’s well understood. I don’t think we’re seeing normal ups and downs though with this team. I will personally continue to support them through thick and thin, from afar until FG is canned, but something systemic is wrong and needs correction with this bunch.
That’s not whining or complaining. I consider it to be a candid opinion, nothing more.
And I’m sarcastic as heck and enjoy acting the fool as a part of that diversion you reference above.
Got to give Beachy major props for not even mentioning the defense in the post game interview. In particular when he said something like “I just need to make my pitches.” Dude, you did, we all saw it but Juan Francisco decided to play hot potato with the baseball.
DOB @10:30am……A small contingent that has taken over the comments on this blog is gaining infamy around the Braves Nation”
I have to agree(and have said many times), most of these people here, do not represent the vast majority of the Brave’s fans.
braves are worthless. minor league. last yr against philly they could not hit minor lg pitchers.
they front office is good at lying, scuse me, promoting the team.
too many bad decisions.
BIGGEST PROBLEM IS OWNERSHIP! SOMEBODY IN ATLANTA START A REAL BOYCOTT TO GET THE GREEDY FOOLS’ ATTENTIION! BRAVES HAVEBEEN SEXUALLY ABUSED, SO TO SPEAK
Beachy should have been out of that inning with zero runs allowed but too the blame. He’s going to really be good, I predict. If given the option to pick between he, Hanson and Jurrrjens, I’d take Beachy in a New York second!
Remember the last RF for the Braves and his 2+ year slump? Heyward has looked awful (so far) and had a terrible spring. We all know how poorly he played last year (please infer I include defense) and fell far below expectations, unwarranted as they were. I looked at his last 20 games of 2010 – in 70 at bats, he hit .214 with 2 HR and 5RBI. This inability to be an even average offensive player has been going on for some time now.
Law of average says Braves will win one soon..right Reckingballs and losoloso and bat0822994.
The fans that say shut and enjoy are idiots..the fans that care are the ones bitch for improvement. Bet those three agree with ozzie too!
and poor ole reckingball….such a simpleton. would’ve gone down with the Titanic back in the day just because he thought it would be warmer to stay inside….
“I have to agree(and have said many times), most of these people here, do not represent the vast majority of the Brave’s fans.”
reckingball,
You haven’t hurled an insult at me lately so I’m going to take the high road here and offer something for you to consider.
You have basically three types: the lovers, the haters, and a group of neither–the indifferenct.
You and I can argue all day, but right or wrong we can enough to do so here. However, there is a large and growing population of people that are apathetic, indifferent, even bored about this Braves baseball and their manager and, unilke us, they could care less about this blog or attending a game.
Those are the ones the Braves and DOB must consider; those probably make up the majority and the Braves, regardless of mine and your blog insults and battles, had better find a way to reattract back to this team.
Apathy and indifference, not love or anger, are the hardest things to overcome in business…you have to actuallu care to like or dislike a product, service or form of entertainment like the Braves.
Larry, I’m with you on Beachy; I think in time he will grow into a very good pitcher. He has the right demeanor and takes full accountability. He reminds me of Glavine in that he pitches as if ahead 5-0 or behind 5-0. He’ll never be flashy, but seems to be destined for a long aproductive career. Even at his age, he displays a lot of consistency.
“We’re not real pretty to watch right now as a team, but we’ll get it going,” said manager Fredi Gonzalez. So, “cap tipper” Fredi, why is it that at the start of a new season, the team is not pretty to watch? Who’s fault is that? It’s YOUR FAULT Fredi. The team will only GET GOING once you are gone.

BTW, Hinske should be starting in the OF over Diaz….
Offensively, the 2 BIGGEST problems are BOURN (not getting on base) and UGGLA (not being a clean up hitter)

I like Hinske and have from day one with the team….
That said, he has put on another 20 pounds, and all that weight on a 30 something body isn’t going to work.
The guy has become a disaster and frankly should’ve been vut for showing up like that.
Livan and Fatsisco should be shown the door immediately too. All three are disgraces to the game looking like they do.

Mike,
Beachy should have been out of that inning with zero runs allowed but too the blame.

This inability to be an even average offensive player has been going on for some time now.

reckingball,
You haven’t hurled an insult at me lately so I’m going to take the high road here and offer something for you to consider.
