it’s very hard to judge what a knuckler is actually doing on tv. it just needs to dart over at the right point and will often look like a ball from where the catcher catches it.
I really wish people would stop using Maddux as an example of not needing velocity. You’re talking about one of the greatest pitchers in the history of the game. These guys are not that.
Nice pitch, Jurrjens.
Gameday shows those pitches called balls, borderline in the zone. 2 were strikes IMO, 1 was low.
April 7th, 20121:47 pm
A CALL, A CALL! WOOHOO!
April 7th, 20121:48 pm
VaBravesFan – Gameday would be correct, the ump…not so much.
Can’t throw it there JJ.
Thought that was outta here.
Hey Frank: You were right, we don’t need any offensive help. Oh wait a minute, 11 innings and zip runs! How could that be?
Sounds like the name stealer needs to stop stealing andosting under other people’s names
April 7th, 20121:49 pm
Double J can’t get away at throwing 87-89 fastballs up in the zone especially when he is getting F’d by the Umpire on calls
The sun is killer today.
if you think gameday is always correct on balls/strikes I got a great investment opportunity for you. send me some money and I’ll mail it to you….
April 7th, 20121:50 pm
I suspect Bourn’s reaction may also have had something to do with the new wall…
“The sun is killer today.”
You ain’t lyin’!
hey fake bravesgrl4life. take a long walk off a short pier buddy.
Well, Jurrjens looks pretty darn good. Couple balls up in the zone and that is about it. The double would have been caught by Bourn if he could see out there.
I guess I could buy that JJs velocity is a result of decreased lower body strength from the knee injury. Again not sure, but hop it comes back soon. It looked like the one on that strikeout was faster, but I did not see the actual reading
April 7th, 20121:51 pm
noleee – Gameday/FoxTrax is a lot more accurate than the umpire is today.
April 7th, 20121:52 pm
Anybody have a radio Link to the game?
Who Hits The First Braves Homer and when will it happen?
and you know that how?
Is every knuckle ball a strike?
April 7th, 20121:53 pm
Tomahawkin, Dan Uggla, today.
y’all do know that it ain’t where the ball is caught right?
noleee – Are you watching the game? This is pretty bad.
Can I propose that until we start losing 10-9 games on a regular basis that we not be critical of Braves pitching?
It’s not the problem.
They may not be mistaken for Roy Halladay anytime soon but as if he would have any better luck.
Come on now.
Dan Uggla, game 12…
April 7th, 20121:54 pm
Bourn’s had adventures in fielding, a baserunning blunder, and is 2-for-2 on the day.
Don’t that beat all…
Does Bourn run here? When we cant score to save our lives…?
I’m just stirrin’ the pot MF, you’re right is is kinda controversial to say the least
April 7th, 20121:55 pm

Tim Hudson, Father’s Day.
Dr. John Zoydberg
Bourn the only Brave looking comfortable at the plate so far. Should be better 2nd time through.
I appears the HP umpire gives the Knuckball more calls than he does JJ
Mitchell – Agreed. I don’t understand bashing the pitching, when the hitters look bad and haven’t scored a run.
Bourn should have stole on the 1st pitch…. The man is throwing 70 mph pitches run!
April 7th, 20121:56 pm
“Tomahawkin, Dan Uggla, today.”
You Taking it to the Bank?
And Its Good to see ya on here Baby!
David Justice, old-timers’ game, TBA.
I Gave Her Undertaker eyes
The A Bomb
22 and counting…..
April 7th, 20121:57 pm
This team blows.
I’m just going to say it.
Starting writing this before Martin’s whiff, let the record show.
That was terrible.
They might not score a run all year.
Knuckleballer…..and Bourn does not try to steal until the last pitch. Thats about right.
Why are we not running?
The beat goes on– 12 innings
Bourn runs on the strikeout, still think Prado gets overly aggressive when Bourn runs.
April 7th, 20121:58 pm
Rilo, maybe he is doing what he’s told to do…
Our offense looks Lost! We still can’t do nothing but hit solo homers…its been like that since last years All Star Break
This is alarming…especially since we are struggling against the NY Mess…but hopefully we will score all our runs (A 5 spot) in one inning?
(what’s left of it)…
Well, I’m no Ms. Cleo, Tomahawkin, but I am going to stick with that.
April 7th, 20121:59 pm
Can anybody on this team hit??
We still can’t do nothing but hit solo homers
I’d happily take one of those…
Coach (2012 Fredi's beisbol fandango)
The Braves miss Chipper’s presence in their line up.
Anyone thing these loser will score even one run all year? LOL
the Braves are dedicating this season to the whiners. They are gonna do everything possible to lose 162 straight so y’all will be ecstatic all year long
April 7th, 20122:00 pm
Too bad Liberty Media doesn’t own a balloon business. Because this lineup blows
12 innings no runs. And counting.
Again, for those of you who can count…..
We didn’t score the final 10 innings against Philly…..
12 innings this season so far….
That makes 22. Same undercoached personnel.
I’m not sure this group could hit in a slow-pitch league. This is getting to be depressing!
April 7th, 20122:01 pm
12 innings into the seaon and I’m already kind of tired of watching this lineup. Good thing I also bought the minor league package this year. The Braves AAA team might be fun to watch.
One of my all time favorite songs is the old country standard “HERE WE GO AGAIN”. I have been singing it a lot the last 3 days. Anybody notice the Braves have not scored a run now in 12 innings? Yet, spring training did not mean a thing! If there was a contest for “MR OPTIMIST” all the AJC sportswriters would tie for first place. It’s about time they told it like it is!
April 7th, 20122:02 pm
Bourn should run I agree, but come on fellows, a strikeout doesn’t get him in. He does have two hits. Why are we not running? Better question is why are we not hitting.
GO BRAVES!!!…and send the Gwinnett team back when you leave…
“That makes 22. Same undercoached personnel.”
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.
Can’t blame hitting coach anymore this team just BLOWS!!!
April 7th, 20122:03 pm
Wishful thinking That would be dumb even for FG. Pretty sure the fastest guy in baseball has a green light. Especially with 2 outs.
Michael Bourn, can’t wait to play in a night game!
April 7th, 20122:04 pm
You mean like writing a story on the continued struggles against lefties?
Lead off walks usually are a great start.
April 7th, 20122:05 pm
Bourn ran as much here last season as he did in Houston and had the green light most all the time. I’m sure it will be the same this season
There are 2 outs
Back from some cooking I had to do. Thanks to my defenders while I was gone.
April 7th, 20122:06 pm
Too early to make judgements says DOB.
That’s embarrassing. Nothing has changed. Literally, no changes of any kind were made other than free agents signing with other teams as free agents do and Derek Lowe being shipped to Cleveland.
Same exact team, DOB.
Pretty unbelieveable for you to say TOO EARLY TO MAKE JUDGEMENTS!
If Albert Pujols was at first base right now, it would be too early.
If David Wright was wearing a Braves uniform right now, it would be too early.
They’re not, it’s not.
Same team, same offense… same results.
Not too early.
Rilo, I would hope he did but with FG we can’t say that…
April 7th, 20122:07 pm
yeah we know Mitchell, its never too early for you to predict doom
Ron in Vegas
Jurrjens needed 60+ pitches to get through 3 innings. Same old 5-6 inning pitcher it appears…
Best Pitch Double J has thrown all day on the K
Okay, a couple of hits but no damage. Now middle of the order has got to do something.
April 7th, 20122:08 pm
That wasn’t a strike earlier. Looks like the umpire has gotten used to non-knuckleballs.
JJ is going to get rocked this season if his FB tops out in the 86-88 range. If they were playing a team not expected to come in last place the score would be 4-0 by now or worse.
The offense is a joke sadly. Piece parts glued together not a purposely designed lineup.
Wren grabs odd pieces here and there, tosses in some rookies being asked to do too much and this is what you get.
Cohesion level = 0. Rally together potential = 0. Post season odds = 0
They say all the right things in ST and during the season but this team has no glue, no chemistry and no leadership.
Same story since JS had to start dumping good players due to budget and or arb fears.
JJ gets out of trouble with his 3rd strikeout.
Wow, Jurrjens looking like Maddux today. Great control. With a few calls, is working on a shut-out.
but with FG we can’t say that….cholulu
we can if we look at how often he runs over a season
Will #13 be luck inning?
April 7th, 20122:09 pm
Was that a changeup or two seamer Ike Turner… errr… Davis struck out on?
Whatever it was, it was FILTHY.
“I’m not sure this group could hit in a slow-pitch league. This is getting to be depressing!”
April 7th, 20122:10 pm
One big disadvantage for knuckleball pitchers is that they are easier to steal against.
We had Heyward and Bourne on base and failed to force the issue.
Add in a manager who no one respects but everyone likes and you won’t get very far. Fredi will be gone by May 31st if they are under .500 by more than 5 games. Mark it down.
Francona is circling the body in the desert as we speak.
How true Noleee
April 7th, 20122:11 pm
When do the Braves play the Rockies? I’m sure Moyer’s already salivating in anticipation.
Come ON Baby!
April 7th, 20122:12 pm
Perhaps, and this is just a great suggestion, McCann should try to hit the ball to left field.
Uggly is in mid season form already!!! Pop up to left!!
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
