There are still alot of parts coming together for this team. This is not the finished product. I’m encouraged by Freeman, Heyward, Bourn and Prado today. It’s not enough yet, but I think better is coming. I think there is talent there and it will be a fun team to follow.
John, and how many games will they be back by the time they get it together? Do you think good teams like the Cardinals or Rangers or Rays, and many others are waiting for their players to warm up? They just got finished with a month of ST. That’s where they are supposed to get it together, not during the regular season. I’m sick of the excuses for this bunch of under-performers and their brain dead manager.

The Braves will rebound, but of course the fan base is gonna get a little crazy starting it off like this. It’s not like were playing the Giants or Phillies where getting so little offense would make sense, were going against the Mets… Its unfortunate that Diaz and Constanza have already been in key situations and come up failing, after horrible springs. Of course were gonna say “I told you so”

This team is awful and its manager and ownership are even worse. JJ broke 90 MPH… once or twice today… so we have two relatively young guys.. Hanson and JJ who can barely break 90 MPH on the radar gun… we have no offense, we have no bench… I know its very very early but this is not panning out too well. How much you want to bet in August when this team is 12 games out Fredi gets a 2 year contract extension? That is how this organization operates now… reward failure, do nothing to encourage success and settle for what you can get. I’ve never been less excited about a Braves season and I’ve been a fan for 20 plus years. This team has ran out of excuses with its fans, we aren’t interested in mediocrity anymore.

If this team is relying on Diaz and Constanza to win games they are going to be in trouble. That could be said for Jordan Parraz, Jack Wilson, Dodge Durango, and the like.
They need McCann and Uggla to start hitting the ball, especially if Heyward isn’t coming back.

Yeah but the point is the players who played well and seemed to have earned roster spots got sent packing…. The one’s who we thought would possibly be gone ended up staying and have failed in key spots that stand out over the 2 games so far. We’ll be fine, figured they would come out the gates showing us more after what happened last season and all.

tiger297 – Heyward is still batting .167 that isn’t going to cut it. He had a nice day today, he let a knuckleballer walk him, props to him. Still can’t hit lefties and strikes out too much.
And yes, it is unfair that some guys had great springs and didn’t make the team, I’m cool with Flande and Durango/Parraz making the team, it just shouldn’t effect this team winning or losing games. The starting hitters should.

Braves fans hail from ‘all around’ –the south’s team and the team supported well–at least respectably….and I don’t feel the hitting issues/offensive weaknesses have not received the attention necessary for improvement–it’s just that our facilitators/coaches/team principals blow!!!

You’re a vet here so I say this with all do respect: With what you just said means you fall in the typical Atlanta bin. “Well we had a winning record, so that’s nothing to worry about” It is alot to worry about when that last month can devastate the psyche of a team for the upcoming season, especially with how impressionable all the young players are. Here is a fact for you. No team has ever imeediately recovered from a collapse, especially when the manager is retained. You should worry about that.
I never said this team wasn’t talented. If we were going off talent alone, this team has enough talent to win 95-100 games and end up in the World Series. Sadly this talent is incredibly mismanaged by a man that got his job simply because he was best friends with that of the incumbent.
I respect you for trying to remain positive, but to act like problems don’t exist is entirely different.

Commit this to memory you Atlanta morons- #1 The Braves have not an ounce of honor,dignity or respect for tradition. #2 Fredi Gonzalez is not respected by ANY knowledgeable baseball people person– a weak sister with zero discipline. #3 Liberty Media actually makes money when the Braves lose–they consider them a total financial write-off. #4 Right now, the Braves are the worst team in baseball–AND–the worst ambassador. This offense, WOW! I cant stand this for another year, One is enough. Bourne and Prado seem to be the only two who is ready. Everyone else needs a wake up call.

Seems to me the trend is that the Braves have far too many players that can hit fine in blow-out games and no runners on situations early in close games. You get to the 5th inning or later in a close game and the other team can bring in an outfielder to pitch (somebody did that in a game a few years ago – I forget who) and toss the ball over the plate and these mental midgets will CHOKE.

I thought Diaz could get the Ax… I mean he is coming off a horrible season, He only can hit LHP, no power, no speed, below average defense. Solid possibility that he is on the decline and some younger guy could out-produce him. Sometimes going with the better player should be the choice. Now for Diaz I did say he deserves a chance since he’s the veteran out of the mix, but so far he’s stuck out like a sore thumb. Been only 2 games and he’s left 4 runners on base when we were trailing. Of course this is how i’m going to react.

Lack of offense, especially clutch hitting, has been the Braves problem for the last 2 yrs. But go ahead and stick your head in the sand and defend Wren, who refuses to part with any of his outstanding 8 or 9 starting pitchers for some right handed power hitting. It’s 2 games and everybody wants to jump off a cliff. I just don’t enjoy that, but not trying to talk anyone out of it either. I think there are some good young players to be excited about. If Heyward and Freeman have big breakout years and the team doesn’t make the playoffs, I think i could live with that because the future would be bright. Hopefully, they can compete and develop at the same time, we’ll see. Rooting for them to succeed and come together.

I am afraid I have seen this movie before and I know how it ends. Every year we hope we will be better even though we bring the same group that couldn’t hit the year before back with a new face who somebody else gave up on. Good pitch + no hit = no win. It is so frustrating but so predictable. Why are we surprised. The Braves recipe for success needs to be thrown out because it does not taste good.

Which is why Bobby Cox or Braves announcers (today) suggested he swing at 3-0 or 3-1 pitches is ridiculous. Let the kid hit. He has a good eye. Of he can draw walks, let him draw walks. He doesn’t need to be overly aggressive if he tries to go to left field some, and will take pitches.

It isn’t as if the bitching comes at invalid points with some posters though. How many times do we need to see the Braves fail at the some RISP opportunities as last year? How many times do we need to see Fredi put us in a hole with a bad decision? Why do many of the players have the same looks on their faces of past September?
As long as people invest time and resources in this club, as ill as it may be on the brain, you can bet they are going to complain if they aren’t happy with the product. Essentially the same product as a season ago.

Sorry, just back from the hospital, but I wanted to say: I told you before Thursday’s opening day that dope of a manager would bat the slowest man and most untypical 3rd in the order, McPopup. He’s dumb, his veterans know it, and they haven’t an ounce of respect for Fruiti.

But, I also told you because of the very average Hanson and JJ, and stupidity of their manager, they would also win with Mike Minor on the mound. I said we’d go 1-2 (because of Minor) and all the pork ring goobers snorted pork regurgitated rinds and Schlitz out of their fat nostrils. LOL!

I agree with nolie on Heyward. He got a couple of walks today and that is good. His triple was fortunate in that he wasn’t trying to do that. He was just trying to hit a pitch that he was fooled on and he survived and it worked out for him. I’m not a fan of Heyward. I think he’s missing a lot between the ears, but that’s just my opinion and I could be wrong. It’ll be hard to be as bad as he was last year. If this team is to resurrect itself, they will need this kid to do better than last year.

This team is sooooo not into baseball! They act like they don’t have to do anything until the ninth inning! They BELIEVE it’s going to happen EVERY game . . . just play around, until the last at-bat. Bourn shows he wants to be traded, he don’t want to be in Atlanta. Was not even running hard on the double which would have been a triple if he had hustled, then again on the tag out at-home on the passed ball, he was going back instead of breaking for home and did not even attempt to avoid the tag by going around the plate. Heyward was the smartest hitter, making the pitcher throw strikes instead of hacking at every offering, got two walks and a triple! DANG ! This team is disgusting!

How about those Braves new look New season same ole poop….0-2 and playin like well its chipper team. why would sportsouth be takein time lookin at chipper who said we goin be in world series last year not cards we better then Phillies was not..and today Mets team who has about started over in team players n talent play like they ones who are contenders and we also rans….Nats are 2-0 no suprise since everyone was pickin against like phillies Marlins be 0-3 as braves 0-2 at bottom ..its early so could reverse soon mets in 5th n we in 4th still……To bad Magic Johnson not buy braves and let Denver owners take La instead.
