Collapse hurt. Nothing has happened to change that.
so your saying 109-153?
April 7th, 20124:43 pm
Liberty Media is loving this start! Attendance will be low and they can cut salary!
nothing was expected to by anybody who really knows the team count
April 7th, 20124:44 pm
There are still alot of parts coming together for this team. This is not the finished product. I’m encouraged by Freeman, Heyward, Bourn and Prado today. It’s not enough yet, but I think better is coming. I think there is talent there and it will be a fun team to follow.
John, and how many games will they be back by the time they get it together? Do you think good teams like the Cardinals or Rangers or Rays, and many others are waiting for their players to warm up? They just got finished with a month of ST. That’s where they are supposed to get it together, not during the regular season. I’m sick of the excuses for this bunch of under-performers and their brain dead manager.
I don’t refuse to acknowledge anything. But last year they won 89 games. You dwell on one bad month. I dwell on the entire season. I am not going to freak out after 2 games.
The Braves will rebound, but of course the fan base is gonna get a little crazy starting it off like this. It’s not like were playing the Giants or Phillies where getting so little offense would make sense, were going against the Mets… Its unfortunate that Diaz and Constanza have already been in key situations and come up failing, after horrible springs. Of course were gonna say “I told you so”
April 7th, 20124:45 pm
Diaz may be borderline, but he’s still about as good as we have here or in the system against LHers
nolie – I’m going to need some translation on that one?
April 7th, 20124:46 pm
This team is awful and its manager and ownership are even worse. JJ broke 90 MPH… once or twice today… so we have two relatively young guys.. Hanson and JJ who can barely break 90 MPH on the radar gun… we have no offense, we have no bench… I know its very very early but this is not panning out too well. How much you want to bet in August when this team is 12 games out Fredi gets a 2 year contract extension? That is how this organization operates now… reward failure, do nothing to encourage success and settle for what you can get. I’ve never been less excited about a Braves season and I’ve been a fan for 20 plus years. This team has ran out of excuses with its fans, we aren’t interested in mediocrity anymore.
April 7th, 2012
Geez fredi, Hope the sound-man drowned out ur passin’ gas during the postgame talk. Ah no, I guess He didn’t, you can hear that one a mile away, hey where’s everyone runnin’ off to, awe fredi did it smell like rotten asparagus again?
LOL! Good one for those who take themselves too seriously on this blog (like me).
If this team is relying on Diaz and Constanza to win games they are going to be in trouble. That could be said for Jordan Parraz, Jack Wilson, Dodge Durango, and the like.
They need McCann and Uggla to start hitting the ball, especially if Heyward isn’t coming back.
In March, when Fredi said, “we’re close”, he may have meant that he and his agent were close to working out a buyout on the remainder of his contract.
April 7th, 20124:47 pm
Boring corporate mess of a team.
Rob from SC
How is 1-2 (3B) 2 BB a bad game?
Wow Dan Uggla is 0 for 23 facing knuckleballers. Talk about a Mental Midget.
Bringing Diaz back was one of Frank’s mistakes. There was no reason for it, he’s been in decline for the past couple of years… but he’s cheap.
April 7th, 20124:48 pm
Stevie, I’m encouraged…do you actually think we’ll be only 12 games out in August? I’m afraid we’ll be 12 games out by June 2!
It’s also good to see McCann back in “just strained my oblique” form.
MFin04 – heyward was 1-2 with 2 walks
I guess anything below 1.000 doesn’t cut it??
Yeah but the point is the players who played well and seemed to have earned roster spots got sent packing…. The one’s who we thought would possibly be gone ended up staying and have failed in key spots that stand out over the 2 games so far. We’ll be fine, figured they would come out the gates showing us more after what happened last season and all.
April 7th, 20124:49 pm
Realistically everyone should be chanting Fire Liberty Media, they are the ones who aren’t spending money to field a team.
many thought that there would be no major changes over the winter, and there weren’t. they did exactly what some of us here and some national folks thought would happen. dirt cheap backup SS and a cheap unproven replacement or two
yeah what Rob said
My bad rc35, I guess that is wishful thinking… you are right, we will be 12 games out in early June.. probably 18 or 19 by August!
April 7th, 20124:50 pm
Diaz was an average MLB hitt in 2010 and way above average the year B4, he had ONE bad year
April 7th, 20124:51 pm
tiger297 – Heyward is still batting .167 that isn’t going to cut it. He had a nice day today, he let a knuckleballer walk him, props to him. Still can’t hit lefties and strikes out too much.
And yes, it is unfair that some guys had great springs and didn’t make the team, I’m cool with Flande and Durango/Parraz making the team, it just shouldn’t effect this team winning or losing games. The starting hitters should.
April 7th, 20124:52 pm
The one’s who we thought would possibly be gone ended up staying and have failed in key spots that stand out over the 2 games so far
who actually thought Diaz would be gone?
NWIH was that happening
Braves fans hail from ‘all around’ –the south’s team and the team supported well–at least respectably….and I don’t feel the hitting issues/offensive weaknesses have not received the attention necessary for improvement–it’s just that our facilitators/coaches/team principals blow!!!
“John, and how many games will they be back by the time they get it together? Do you think good teams like the Cardinals or Rangers or Rays, and many others are waiting for their players to warm up? They just got finished with a month of ST. That’s where they are supposed to get it together, not during the regular season. I’m sick of the excuses for this bunch of under-performers and their brain dead manager.”
Co-Sign! Very Well Put… I pretty much said the same thing!
April 7th, 20124:53 pm
Some of the doomsday comments are so ridiculous they don’t deserve a response. I won’t question the knowledge, I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that some of your comments are semi tongue in cheek.
yeah what Rob said.
April 7th, 20124:54 pm
Tomahawkin – Silly kid, that is because Spring Training doesn’t matter. You get it together during the season.
if y’all are gonna keep bitchin’ over and over, at least try to be original and entertaining. otherwise you’re just like the Braves….BORING!!!! nolie
Wow nolie, are you okay? Kinda strange hearing you talk like that. At least when you aren’t being sarcastic.
April 7th, 20124:55 pm
I’m with you tiger297
“I don’t refuse to acknowledge anything. But last year they won 89 games. You dwell on one bad month. I dwell on the entire season. I am not going to freak out after 2 games.”
You’re a vet here so I say this with all do respect: With what you just said means you fall in the typical Atlanta bin. “Well we had a winning record, so that’s nothing to worry about” It is alot to worry about when that last month can devastate the psyche of a team for the upcoming season, especially with how impressionable all the young players are. Here is a fact for you. No team has ever imeediately recovered from a collapse, especially when the manager is retained. You should worry about that.
I never said this team wasn’t talented. If we were going off talent alone, this team has enough talent to win 95-100 games and end up in the World Series. Sadly this talent is incredibly mismanaged by a man that got his job simply because he was best friends with that of the incumbent.
I respect you for trying to remain positive, but to act like problems don’t exist is entirely different.
Commit this to memory you Atlanta morons- #1 The Braves have not an ounce of honor, dignity or respect for tradition. #2 Fredi Gonzalez is not respected by ANY knowledgeable baseball people person– a weak sister with zero discipline. #3 Liberty Media actually makes money when the Braves lose–they consider them a total financial write-off. #4 Right now, the Braves are the worst team in baseball–AND–the worst ambassador. GET CHIPPER OUT OF THE DUGOUT AND OUT OF SIGHT__he is a worthless throwback and a detriment to the young players.
April 7th, 20124:56 pm
Well, let’s hope we can get to 1-2 tomorrow and hit a lefty. Heck I’ll take a 1-0 win with no hits if that is what it takes.
This offense, WOW! I cant stand this for another year, One is enough. Bourne and Prado seem to be the only two who is ready. Everyone else needs a wake up call.
Definition of insanity comes to mind, when I think of the Braves. Doing the same thing that didnt work last year, this year again.
Fun Activity for the day:
We cant get david wright out, duda duda. He hits long balls all day, oh duda day. all duda day all duda night. He hit 2 HR’s today, DUDA all the way.
Spoken of true words from Mr. Herman Cain “We are not Stupid”
…..thats at you front office
MFin04 – I agree…if Heyward is batting .167 June 1 I’ll be worried as well
but I’m no more concerned about his .167 today than I will be certain he is back if he is batting .500 after tomorrow
Seems to me the trend is that the Braves have far too many players that can hit fine in blow-out games and no runners on situations early in close games. You get to the 5th inning or later in a close game and the other team can bring in an outfielder to pitch (somebody did that in a game a few years ago – I forget who) and toss the ball over the plate and these mental midgets will CHOKE.
I’m with you Jerry, doesn’t sound like nolie.
April 7th, 20124:57 pm
I’m very angry right now. Think I’ll go to the track and walk it off. Try to get in a better mood.
One last Heyward thing… Maybe if Chipper kept his mouth shut, and management listened to how much pain he was in, he would have gotten the correct amount of time to heal.
Brave New World
April 7th, 20124:58 pm
The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
cab, You are the only one who refuses to acknowledge that this team’s mentality is not that of a winning one. stizz
I don’t think she leaning one way or the other. She just doesn’t get into all the bashing. At least, that’s my take on it.
stizz – not sure anyone is saying we don’t have problems…I think the point she is making is the season/world isn’t ending here
Liberty shouldn't spend money
Since nobody supports this team. They’ll finish lower quartile in attendance just like every Atlanta team. Imagine how well the Hawks would draw if they weren’t good enough to make the playoffs!
I should have said how poorly they would draw*
April 7th, 20124:59 pm
I’m getting nervous by the Fact that the Team Is Banking on Chipper to Come Back andbe the Savior of the Offense…
I dunno WTF Fredi and The Team is thinking that a 40 yr old Chipper can Hit Like its 1999
I didn’t realy enjoy Chipper’s jokes about his bat speed during the in-game interview.
How much money did he make today?
I thought Diaz could get the Ax… I mean he is coming off a horrible season, He only can hit LHP, no power, no speed, below average defense. Solid possibility that he is on the decline and some younger guy could out-produce him. Sometimes going with the better player should be the choice. Now for Diaz I did say he deserves a chance since he’s the veteran out of the mix, but so far he’s stuck out like a sore thumb. Been only 2 games and he’s left 4 runners on base when we were trailing. Of course this is how i’m going to react.
April 7th, 20125:00 pm
ok what Jerry said LOL
Fredi Will Screw It Up Somehow
“If we were going off talent alone, this team has enough talent to win 95-100 games and end up in the World Series.”
WUT… Uhh no, maybe 88-90 games at best. Worse defense on the left side will cost a few games.
“Sadly this talent is incredibly mismanaged by a man that got his job simply because he was best friends with that of the incumbent.”
Well, yeah, this is correct.
“I’m very angry right now. Think I’ll go to the track and walk it off. Try to get in a better mood.”
Co-Sign! I’m Going out to Mow The Yard…!
April 7th, 20125:01 pm
“One last Heyward thing… Maybe if Chipper kept his mouth shut, and management listened to how much pain he was in, he would have gotten the correct amount of time to heal.”
Chipper is the last one to comment on players health. That would be like Rush Limbaugh giving out health and fitness advice
South ga boy in the ATL
Another offensive explosion (heavy sarcasm). Well I was chastised by fellow Braves fans after my criticism about the lack of offense the other day. It’s only one game everybody said. Uh no it’s not. Lack of offense, especially clutch hitting, has been the Braves problem for the last 2 yrs. But go ahead and stick your head in the sand and defend Wren, who refuses to part with any of his outstanding 8 or 9 starting pitchers for some right handed power hitting. Don’t give me some crap that he’s tried. 90 % of all teams are looking for young talented starters and willing to trade hitters. We will, again this yr, waste championship level pitching because Wren wants to keep at least 3 quality starters stuck at Gwinnett. Go ahead and, stupidly, defend him
April 7th, 20125:02 pm
Clearly RA Dickey is just getting his Cy Young campaign underway. Or at least that’s the excuse what we’re gonna to hear from the blind homers.
April 7th, 20125:03 pm
Money and Control effect roster moves too much IMO. If there is a player you believe is better than someone on your 25 man roster that’s in the minors how does that make sense?
It’s 2 games and everybody wants to jump off a cliff. I just don’t enjoy that, but not trying to talk anyone out of it either. I think there are some good young players to be excited about. If Heyward and Freeman have big breakout years and the team doesn’t make the playoffs, I think i could live with that because the future would be bright. Hopefully, they can compete and develop at the same time, we’ll see. Rooting for them to succeed and come together.
that has always been a big part of my problem with constant whiners Jerry. The same thing over and over and over and over etc etc etc . I have no trouble with folks expressing their disappointment, I do it too at times. it is the hyperbole repeated ad nauseaum that kills…
April 7th, 20125:04 pm
I am afraid I have seen this movie before and I know how it ends. Every year we hope we will be better even though we bring the same group that couldn’t hit the year before back with a new face who somebody else gave up on. Good pitch + no hit = no win. It is so frustrating but so predictable. Why are we surprised. The Braves recipe for success needs to be thrown out because it does not taste good.
April 7th, 20125:06 pm
Does Heyward look better to you
April 7th, 20125:07 pm
there was no way they were gonna dump Diaz millions when they are so strapped
IMO its that kinda thinking that is part of what leads to such disappointments for folks
April 7th, 20125:08 pm
Heyward did hit the triple to the opposite field, and draw 2 walks. When Heyward was doing well he was seeing alot of pitches and such. He’s on the right path.
April 7th, 20125:09 pm
No team has ever imeediately recovered from a collapse, especially when the manager is retained
I assume you have stats to back that up?
I never said the team was perfect. I never said there were no problems. But I also don’t see the point in complaining about it day after day, inning after inning. Doesn’t help. Won’t change anything. So I don’t do it. I’m a positive person. I focus on the positive.
(Jerry & tiger- thanks for the support )
okay.. I just read maybe the most idiotic post of all time. The world series of garbage. Maybe maybe you were saying this just to get a comment, to stir the pot. However if this is your true feeling, then why even bother. If you are that disgusted and that miserable then why are you here or follow the braves.
April 7th, 20125:10 pm
DOB; you’ve gots alots of frustration & venting coming from the fan base, print this off (all 1,264 comments) or until this is finished & see if somebody in the higher ups might care(If you share it w/them)…. just a little, it just might take an ounce of concern if they would listen to the fans for a change. We need something Big to change, New ownership like a stan kasten type group w/deep pockets.” If -u- can’t beat em’,Join em”. Everybody’s(or majority) are tired of the Bull that’s being dealt.
yeah he does look some better Rob. he is more in sych with his hands and body. I expect him to do better than last season but perhaps not as much better as we want
April 7th, 20125:11 pm
Which is why Bobby Cox or Braves announcers (today) suggested he swing at 3-0 or 3-1 pitches is ridiculous. Let the kid hit. He has a good eye. Of he can draw walks, let him draw walks. He doesn’t need to be overly aggressive if he tries to go to left field some, and will take pitches.
April 7th, 20125:12 pm
I agree MF, especially at this point in his rebound attempt
April 7th, 20125:13 pm
ive been defending this team for a long time now and now i can say we suck i give fredi till middle of may if this keeps up hes gone
It isn’t as if the bitching comes at invalid points with some posters though. How many times do we need to see the Braves fail at the some RISP opportunities as last year? How many times do we need to see Fredi put us in a hole with a bad decision? Why do many of the players have the same looks on their faces of past September?
As long as people invest time and resources in this club, as ill as it may be on the brain, you can bet they are going to complain if they aren’t happy with the product. Essentially the same product as a season ago.
Can Of Corn
April 7th, 20125:14 pm
IT’S A GOOD THING
It’s a good thing the Braves schedule allows them to start off against a weak Mets team.
They might be already down 0-2 if they were playing against a contender.
I just read maybe the most idiotic post of all time…Ray
kinda hard to guess which of many possibilities that might be Ray
WE HE EVER BE A STAR
April 7th, 20125:15 pm
Just google MLB collapses and see the condition they were in for the following years. Hell, the Mets still haven’t recovered from the days of Willie Randolph.
Go Go Pilots
April 7th, 20125:16 pm
Lookin Good freddi had his favorite out at bat n he did and we Now 0-2 No worrys Marlins be 0-3 after tonight lost to reds….so its this now Ny mets 2-0 washington Nats 2-0 and phillies who is all wash up old folks accourdin to AJC and writers n hurt 2-0 in east now….yes Phiilies will beat Pirates now after all not playin Braves now yet!…Great cap tippin frddie said we played well just had bad breaks here yea u lost to two Pitchers who pitch as if Braves were facein Lefty grove and christy Matthewson today. April 7th, 20125:17 pm
cab, you do focus on the positive. When there is a negative or for that matter, most of the points you make are based with facts. On this page alone just when I couldn’t get more surprised or shake my head more, some one goes beyond the realm of moronic comments.
April 7th, 20125:18 pm
there ya go CoC, get a little levity into the complaining. makes it more interesting for others to read and I find that when I do it that way the attempt at humor lifts my mood some
April 7th, 20125:20 pm
Its gonna be a long year folks… That $15 million Chippers making sure could land us a real hitter for this dreadfull line-up…..
Sorry, just back from the hospital, but I wanted to say: I told you before Thursday’s opening day that dope of a manager would bat the slowest man and most untypical 3rd in the order, McPopup. He’s dumb, his veterans know it, and they haven’t an ounce of respect for Fruiti.
DOB, doesn’t know it (or if he does he’s afraid to say it about his bike buddy), but Fruiti has lost his players confidence in his ability to put together effective lineups, use appropriate pitchers at the right time, or make in-game, situational decisions–in short, he can’t manage a baseball team.
But, I also told you because of the very average Hanson and JJ, and stupidity of their manager, they would also win with Mike Minor on the mound. I said we’d go 1-2 (because of Minor) and all the pork ring goobers snorted pork regurgitated rinds and Schlitz out of their fat nostrils. LOL!
It just seems like a good idea, when making an argument or a point, to be able to back it up with something other than just one’s opinion. Not that I am against anyone expressing their own thoughts, just think folks should distinguish between opinion and fact.
I agree with nolie on Heyward. He got a couple of walks today and that is good. His triple was fortunate in that he wasn’t trying to do that. He was just trying to hit a pitch that he was fooled on and he survived and it worked out for him. I’m not a fan of Heyward. I think he’s missing a lot between the ears, but that’s just my opinion and I could be wrong. It’ll be hard to be as bad as he was last year. If this team is to resurrect itself, they will need this kid to do better than last year.
April 7th, 20125:21 pm
This team is sooooo not into baseball! They act like they don’t have to do anything until the ninth inning! They BELIEVE it’s going to happen EVERY game . . . just play around, until the last at-bat. Bourn shows he wants to be traded, he don’t want to be in Atlanta. Was not even running hard on the double which would have been a triple if he had hustled, then again on the tag out at-home on the passed ball, he was going back instead of breaking for home and did not even attempt to avoid the tag by going around the plate. Heyward was the smartest hitter, making the pitcher throw strikes instead of hacking at every offering, got two walks and a triple! DANG ! This team is disgusting!
“WUT… Uhh no, maybe 88-90 games at best. Worse defense on the left side will cost a few games.”
They won 89 with the same player in left as last year.
April 7th, 20125:22 pm
Fruiti has lost his players confidence in his ability to put together effective lineups, use appropriate pitchers at the right time, or make in-game, situational decisions–in short, he can’t manage a baseball team.
This, for example, is not actually a fact- it is an opinion claiming to be fact.
I want to see this incredibly moronic post Ray keeps referring to.
April 7th, 20125:25 pm
cab, that is exactly my point. If some of the so called experts on here that are all naysayers, just simply back up the statements with facts. And its funny I have found that for most of them when you ask them to back up their statements with a fact, they suddenly cannot be found.
April 7th, 20125:26 pm
that has been known to happen from time to time
April 7th, 20125:28 pm
“And its funny I have found that for most of them when you ask them to back up their statements with a fact, they suddenly cannot be found.”
The poster said he has just returned from the hospital. I’m sure he has more pressing needs than looking for replies on an ajc board.
“This, for example, is not actually a fact- it is an opinion claiming to be fact.”
No, it is an absolute fact with a certain core of veteran players. Trust me…I know!
April 7th, 20125:29 pm
If he is Rob, it will prolly be down the road a coupla years IMO.
I know he is bright, but I’m not sure how mentally tough he is as yet, which is not uncommon at all with kids as young as he is who are experiencing their first rough times and setbacks.
stizz.. go back to the last page and look at the 455 post.. it will stand out like a perfect game.
April 7th, 20125:30 pm
nope, its an opinion claiming to be fact. always irritating when repeated with force
I’m sure you do. Let me guess- you know “people” but won’t say who, right?
that was not about anyone in particular.
April 7th, 20125:31 pm
How about those Braves new look New season same ole poop….0-2 and playin like well its chipper team. why would sportsouth be takein time lookin at chipper who said we goin be in world series last year not cards we better then Phillies was not..and today Mets team who has about started over in team players n talent play like they ones who are contenders and we also rans….Nats are 2-0 no suprise since everyone was pickin against like phillies Marlins be 0-3 as braves 0-2 at bottom ..its early so could reverse soon mets in 5th n we in 4th still……To bad Magic Johnson not buy braves and let Denver owners take La instead.
April 7th, 20125:32 pm
should be interesting, stizz had a 4:55 post….
Larry,, so do you have access to the clubhouse? Do you have access to the players. yes I have never called any one out point blank but I can ASSure you that you are making garbage up. Nice try.
