DOB, the bloggers are right about the accountability issue. — tjhook
Aren’t they always?
April 8th, 201212:34 pm
never mind..just saw on TV Wilson SS and Diaz in LF..O-My God..Pray!
I guess I don’t mind the story, but Fredi’s decision to comment on the irrelevant, and DOB’s peevishness about being questioned are both par for the course. I can’t believe any of you are actually surprised by either. I suppose it beats answering/asking a few probing questions about some very odd bullpen and PH decisions though.
Nice day though – who’s up for a motorcycle ride? — spike
It’d be a perfect day for it here (and in Atlanta, from what I understand. Nice weather there, too, right?)
Judging from your tone, you might want to consider getting a bike (motorcycle). Great way to relax.
April 8th, 201212:35 pm
Does Coach Van Gundy need a job next year ,I think there will be an opening in the ATL very soon.
Fredi becomes more of a joke as each day passes. DOB has short man disease. Very short man disease. – Bob Rathbun’s Hairpiece
April 8th, 201212:36 pm
Poor DOB, had his feelings hurt by J-Man and decided to rant on how J Man didnt have to read this piece (of s$:’). Typical, ajc writer. They can dish it out but can’t take it. — Jeff Van Gundy
Yes, it was all I could do to gather myself and make it to the ballpark on time today, so shattered was I by J-Man’s critique. Please be gentle with me the rest of the day.
April 8th, 201212:37 pm
Why would you not treat these comments like you did those of
John Schuerholtz? Remeber, “heat of the moment?” Am I to reason that you think more of folks
here than you do Braves brass? Can’t have it both ways. — AtlPanther
April 8th, 201212:38 pm
For those who missed J-Man’s post at 4AM(and you may have) go back and read it. It’s well worth the time as he “hit the target dead center”. May make some people mad, like AJC sportswriters, but it’s the truth. These are the same guys who were saying spring training games were no big deal when everyone was ranting, but now looks like we all knew what we were seeing and they didn’t.
April 8th, 201212:39 pm
DOB I like the info..players etc have other things in their life thats also interesting..Keep up the great job.
April 8th, 201212:40 pm
Diaz in RF? Wilson at SS? Pastornicky is a kid, he does not need rest. Why is Francisco not at 3b and Prado in LF? It’s not fair to Prado to bounce him between 3b and LF. It’s crap like this Fredi…
April 8th, 201212:43 pm
parabrave: I look for someone that has a fire in his belly, under control but will fight in the drop of the hat if need be – thus you have John Smoltz.
Greg Maddox would ‘ MANDATE’ playing the game full speed or you would not be a brave or work for the Braves.
Chipper, without a doubt one of the all time great players and hitters, passion for the game is second to none.
April 8th, 201212:44 pm
The Mets are starting a left handed pitcher. I guess Francisco is only going to play against right handed starters. Any way isn’t Chipper coming back on Tuesday.
“Judging from your tone, you might want to consider getting a bike (motorcycle). Great way to relax.”
Sounds like you may need to ship your motorcycle on road trips, lol… No place like home. Unless your the Braves where home is where the playoff runs end.
April 8th, 201212:47 pm
Francisco hit lefties fine in the minors. Well, .269 anyhow. That glorious Diaz season was like 5 years ago or something. Just leave Prado in LF everyday, leave Diaz on the bench and play Francisco when Chipper needs a spell. Next season it’s Francisco v. Terdo for 3b, so, let’s see what we have.
April 8th, 201212:51 pm
greg maddux for manager. period
Never Too Early to Panic
April 8th, 201212:52 pm
Over/under 3 for runs scored by Braves today?
I say under since it’s a lefty pitching
Hope Minor and the pen can shut them out today or the Braves will be heading to Houston 0-3.
Dr. John Zoydberg
April 8th, 201212:56 pm
A playoff contending team needs ballplayers who can hit righties and lefties, regardless of what side of the plate they hit from. I am tired of that excuse.
April 8th, 201212:57 pm
Well I have apparently become “The voice of reason”……..and thats sad lol. But the fact is Braves fans are upset with lackluster performance, not just from the team on the field but the front office and ownership. That 10 1/2 game choke job still resinates with Braves nation. And the fact that ownership did nothing to improve this team has mad an overwelming majority of Braves fans weary. In the entertain industry such as professional sports, perception soon becomes reality and soon we will see all-time attendance numbers. This team is not a exciting team and they lose. Which is a bad combination.
Can Of Corn

ANOTHER MADDUX VOTE
I’d love to see Wren bring in Maddux as the next Braves manager — ASAP!

Don’t look now but the Braves are holding down last place in the standings. Looks rather weird but may stay this way the rest of the season. Washington and Houston on top, Phillies in the middle, and ATL and Miami on the bottom. Oh, guess FG is resting some of the “regulars” on Sunday like Cox use to do. After all it has been a long season so far. Also, think maybe he is looking at the first half of the year as an extension of spring training, and they will jack it up after the all star break. Those are the only games that really count anyway. Yep, I am full of SARCASM today!
April 8th, 20121:01 pm
Me too corn….
How about next season? Can’t Prado be the everyday 3B. The Braves brought back Diaz last year ,why not try to bring back Francouer this year. He would be a definite improvement over what the Braves have in the outfield now. He has a reasonable contract and was a fan favorite ,before Bobby ran him out of town. Now that Bobby has retired maybe Francouer could come back,it would be better than this current bunch of talented but unmotivated outfielders the Braves have now.
April 8th, 20121:03 pm
Yea, tell FG ST is over.
Happy Easter! Ball game on! Braves are gonna pound the Mets! I just took my meds!
April 8th, 20121:06 pm
Right, J-Man, and if the AJC writers were telling it like it is and putting some heat on LIKE THEY DO IN MOST MLB CITIES, then some changes might be made. The writers have direct contact with the fans and are our sounding boards. Doesn’t seem like this is getting passed on to the brass at the top. Everything is just “peachy” as far as they are concerned. I am still wondering if the AJC sports guys are going to let FG get away with what he said last night, or will check it out. Once again, he said, very emphatically that “most teams who score first win the game”. It would be interesting to know if that is correct or he just pulled it out of the air, as he does sometimes. I’m guessing it’s about 50-50. We can’t check with Elias Sports Bureau, but sportswriters can. How about it, DOB? Is that a fact or not? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Hell no to Frenchy…Cox didn’t run him out of town–Frenchy did it to himself. Majority of fans wanted him gone.
April 8th, 20121:12 pm
Uggla is Prado’s problem. We spent what little money we had covering a position we already had covered. And by Uggla, I mean management, I don’t seem to dislike Uggla personally, but, he’s a high K all or nothing .260 hitter. Yes he has power, but I was cool with Prado hitting .310 from the 2b position.
I like Francisco, that pick-up has every potential to be a good one. His biggest problem was Dusty Baker. Just play him. Of course, with Uggla, we’d have two high-power high-K guys, but whatever, this is still a sketchy 3HR kinda offense.
Frenchy was a football player out of high school and saw very little minor league action. His problem was combining that lack of fundamentals with a hard head. If Heyward pans out, and I have not lost faith in him, RF is covered for 10 years.
The correct lineup, given what we have now is Prado in LF everyday, Jones/Francisco at 3b.
What I would give to trade Diaz for Gregor Blanco for that role.
April 8th, 20121:14 pm
Interesting blog DOB… Good thoughts from Fredi.
The middle of the lineup is 0-fer the year? Folks, that won’t hold. We’re going to see some runs. Actually, we’ve been mediocre on the mound for much of the spring. That’s the biggest issue I’ve seen. We need to have our starters pitch to contract, get in and out of innings, and save the pen. This bullpen is lights out money. We get the game into the 7th and 8th with a lead…. Going to win a lot of games.
Would like to see someone added to the lineup. We can’t count on Chipper, dude can barely get from the dugout to third base on those wheels.
April 8th, 20121:15 pm
Niese can’t find strike zone.
April 8th, 20121:16 pm
anything but Diaz..
April 8th, 20121:17 pm
0-11, nice . Blow this team up and start over
April 8th, 20121:18 pm
It was encouraging for Prado and Uggla to work walks, but the struggles to hit with runners on base persist. Frustrating.
Just now watching yesterday’s game, since I don’t have cable TV. Nice snare by Francisco on Wright’s liner in the 8th. We have the 3b platoon covered with this guy. Just let him play.
April 8th, 20121:19 pm
YAHOO !!!!!!! my ROY HALLADAY and CLIFF LEE JERSEY just arrived at the door, they are awsom, i think i will ordet a HUNTER PENCE jersey later today, GO PHILLIES, BRAVES BLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
April 8th, 20121:21 pm
Halladay is something else for sure. But as boring as the Braves are, the Phillies are old. Get back to us when Rollins’ calf flares up, Utley can’t go, who is at 3rd? And Howard tweak his legs since he’s a big dude on hobbled wheels, lol.
Great start #36! Game over
April 8th, 20121:22 pm
Fundamentals by mets, must be nice
Settle down, Minor.
Name one current Braves outfielder who had a better season than Frenchy had last year. He mouthed off to Cox and Bobby ran him off . He damn sure did not improve the team by getting some washed up player from the Mets who now out of baseball .
April 8th, 20121:23 pm
I have never seen so many bandwagon jumping crybabies in all my life. You only support when things are going great. Another example of “everybody should get a trophy, and if it’s my fault, it isn’t” mentality. Yeah, it’s time to panic!!!! Only 160 games to go!!! You Johnny come lateleys are so spoiled. If you werent around for the Braves in the 70s and 80s, I really don’t want to hear you bitching about a bad team.
April 8th, 20121:24 pm
Prado would have caught that ball..Diaz had to think before moving..which way to go?#@*
April 8th, 20121:25 pm
Looks like the village is missing its idiot.
Get a man on, move him over, get him in with a fly ball to the OF. Ingenious!
Unfortunately that was good baseball by the Mets to score the leadoff double without any problem.
April 8th, 20121:26 pm
I guess I can turn off the game now. Mets scored and we know the braves can’t. Simple math
April 8th, 20121:29 pm
Diaz stumbling around LF, awesome.
I’ve been a fan since 1979. Loved Garry Mathews. Thought Bob Horner was the answer. Witness the Len Barker deal go down in real time, was running around Peachtree Street drunk in 1991, crying when the Yankees busted us up, twice, and watched in horror as the Astros, Giants and Cubs all sent the Braves home early in the playoffs. So, you have to put up with my kvetching.
The A Bomb
Beth Keener only makes this worse with her (a) topic…. and (b) voice.
Dumbest idea yet.
April 8th, 20121:30 pm
DOB is being a little testy today lol
Thanks Mr Collins..I was there in 60 until now…u taking a lot for granted by saying bandwagon, crybabies like we don’t care.If you don’t like the bitching don’t read..take your wife out to eat and play with the kids. When did you become the Braves fan judge?
Get a life.
Yea fundamental baseball………We havent seen that in a while. In fact we havent seen that since Bobby was here.
Thats how you play this game double get him over then hit SF. Braves will take two months to do that.
April 8th, 20121:31 pm
3 walks before any outs in the 2nd inning.
April 8th, 20121:32 pm
DOB is upset at me because I kinda exposed everything with my 4 am post.
If that’s what Heyward is swinging at, Greg Walker can’t do any better than Satan Parrish.
Heyward sucks. What a piece of shyt. Im so sick of this loser. Get rid of him PLEASE. BUST!!!
April 8th, 20121:34 pm
I’ll say this Heyward is doing his job by getting on base
April 8th, 20121:35 pm
Greg Walker is not hitting..J-Hey is..consider who he has to work with.
I hear Greg Norton is available.
0-12 RISP this year, and counting. Nice
Well I guess It will be a 4-1 loss for the Braves today
April 8th, 20121:36 pm
I don’t know if it is cool, horrible, or embarassing but in the 3rd inning of the third game of the season I am still tied for second on the Braves in RBI and tied for first in hits with RISP.
All from the comfort of my easy chair!
Oh and Heyward has a hitch in his swing.
J-hey has got on this year..Thats good ..thanks GW.
April 8th, 20121:37 pm
I have faith in Heyward. Too many people in his ear. He’s gonna walk. Let him get back to swinging at his pitch and he’ll be fine. Every busts on him, but they forget how electric he can be. He’s freaking 22 years old.
Same team…same results. Who would of thought?
April 8th, 20121:38 pm
This has no-hitter written all over it.
Anything to get management to take the horse behind the barn, because UNLESS there’s a change there will be AT LEAST 90 more of these cluster games we’ll get to “enjoy” this season en route to a fine draft position next June.
Spring training made no difference — this has just been games 163, 164 and 165 of 2011.
Yea most 22 year old players are in Double A so I feel Heyward is just fine
DOB’s getting testy, haven’t seen that side of him in a while….
April 8th, 20121:41 pm
@ Who Me? …….Its my fault I just opened Pandora’s Box by point out the way the Atlanta media coddles Fredi Gonzalez. And I pointed the people are Fed up with Fredi
Minor backed off Tejada and let him get away, but he has looked good since then. Going after the hitters now.
April 8th, 20121:43 pm
Been a Braves fan since ‘66 ,I remember when the Braves Bandwagon had no wheels. But this current group of Braves seem to have that entitled air to them that you mention in your previous post. There is no one held accountable for their lackluster performance. They don’t do the small things that winning teams do to score runs .They swing for the fences when just making contact can score a run.
April 8th, 20121:44 pm
@ Who Me? …….Its my fault I just opened Pandora’s Box by pointing out the way the Atlanta media coddles Fredi Gonzalez. And I pointed the people are Fed up with Fredi. Besides he wouldnt be getting mad like this if there wasnt truth to what I’m saying, because people come in here all the time and ramble, myself included. But DOB tends to ignore them as he should when they have no relevant point. But I do and he doesnt like it.
April 8th, 20121:47 pm
I predicted a 4-1 loss well i might be wrong. It might be 4-0
Ron in Vegas
April 8th, 20121:48 pm
Bourn is playing his way right out of a big Boras contract……he has for the most part been disapointing since he arrived.
This team sucks. Essh. Getting bent over again
April 8th, 20121:49 pm
Coming up next: Fredi weighs in on the 2012 presidential race and the Trayvon Martin situation. Beth Keener reads a tweet from Kelli G “woo hoo go braves u r awsum”
Anything but real managing and real critique and analysis of baseball. This franchise is fast on its way to jokedom.
April 8th, 20121:50 pm
Niese and his ugly nose just struck out the side.
Nice inning! Mac is a tool.
April 8th, 20121:52 pm
Fedi has enough of his own issues to worry about, and should have told whomever asked him about basketball as much.
The Braves can’t score against the Mets without a HR, and have sored 2 runs in 20 innings against the team most so called experts picked to finish last in the division, and he wants to so he has a pair in responding to something that has nothing to do with his game.
April 8th, 20121:53 pm
If Mauchzalez announces at a news conference tomorrow that a bunch of us want him out, I’m sure all of us wouldn’t mind showing up to CONFIRM that.
Unlike that wussy Dwight Howard did with Van Gundy.
April 8th, 20121:55 pm
Thats why I love these Braves. You can jump in after 3 innings and know you didn’t miss a thing.
How about an idea. Trade some of this great pitching ( I guess ) for some hitting.
April 8th, 20121:58 pm
Y’all make me embarrassed to be a brass fan. We’re two games into the year jeez calm down
April 8th, 20121:59 pm
*braves fan (iPhone autocorrect)
BETH KEENER #irritating #badidea #goaway
To be fair, pitching has been very strong for the first weekend of the year, but the hitting has been non-existence in all areas since July of last year.
April 8th, 20122:01 pm
take a seat Uggla, no bases empty 3-run HR for you
April 8th, 20122:02 pm
At least Freeman stopped the strike out streak, although it was with about the weakest ground ball that you will see in the major leagues…
April 8th, 20122:03 pm
2 runs in the last 32 innings. No lead.
First time I’ve seen a team quit in April.
April 8th, 20122:05 pm
The no no is alive.GMAFB.
April 8th, 20122:06 pm
When did the Braves stop winning games? When they traded for that no hitting back up shortstop, who has never played in a playoff game, Wilson. FW brought him back and the trend continued thru spring training and now into the season against a weak Mets team.
April 8th, 20122:08 pm
I will give us fans credit. No “I told you so” with Melk Dud. He was miserable when he was here.
April 8th, 20122:09 pm
Mister Frisky is right about the no no. Do you think the other Mets players are already avoiding Niece in the dugout since they know it is a real possiblity with this Braves lineup?
April 8th, 20122:11 pm
Melky — enough said. Always will be fat.
April 8th, 20122:13 pm
4 consecutive walks and we could tie this thing up!
April 8th, 20122:14 pm
Thanks for your concern – I have a ‘55 pan, ‘93 FXRP, and ‘01 FLHRPI. They are most relaxing. Judging from your tone, I am going to assume you are on the road without one. Shame – seems like you couild unwind a bit yourself.
