salaries are a moving target that is always gonna appreciate over the long term, they got paid more than they would have been worth to us, but not necessarily by another team’s values
@Nolee–with the new money from TV deals and franchise appreciations, yes, salaries are going to be a moving target for most teams–but this team is going to be an exception. You will probably see a 90 to 95 mil payroll into the next decade and that is not going to cut it in the direction the game is going in.
@Ray–I get that you do not want the Braves to overpay for any player but if average talent is commanding in the 3 to 5 million per yr range, what is it going to take to re up with the good talent like Bourn and Mc Cann, deals that are going to be on the table in the future.
Can the system keep up bring in one starter per yr as it has done the last three (Heyward, Freeman last yr and now Pastornicky).
If other teams are paying up and our team does not, we will not keep our players. And its a revolving door of bring in players and they stay here untl its their time to get paid.
Even Pittsburgh went out and extended Mc Cutchen for six yrs. I saw where SF went out and extended Cain for 5 yrs.
Chipper and Lowe’s money comes off the book this yr and who knows what the next excuse will be to go out and get nobody again. And you cannot bank that Bourn re-ups here either.
The system better stay good. That is one thing we have that keeps this team respectable. And maybe Wren makes 2 or 3 diamond in the rouhg trades. That is what it takes to maintain respectability.
I also hear that Votto has gotten extended by Cincy.
For now, we have 2012, so hope for the best and the right vibes come oour way.

Welcome Back Heath!
Good To See You on Here Baby!

April 2nd, 20128:37 pm
I’m gonna predict a Kentucky victory tonight. 50/50 are my odds
April 2nd, 20128:40 pm
Regardless of how you feel about the Braves’ chances, here’s something to get everyone in the mood for upcoming season:
April 2nd, 20128:42 pm
Had to get away from all the “negative nellies”. Not sure how much with which I can deal…
April 2nd, 20128:43 pm
Disgusted, I don’t think the Pirates overpaid for McCutchen. I thought that was a pretty good deal. I think one of the hidden benefits that the Braves will get when they resign McCann is next year when there are going to be a lot more interleague games, the DH will be more prominent in the NL. I have never liked seeing teams sign pitchers for 6+ years. In regards to Bourn if he is going to get somewhere in the 14-15m range.. I don’t want to see the Braves sign him.
April 2nd, 20128:45 pm
One final thing, no matter what we will always see teams overpay players. If you have a huge payroll like the Yanks, you can make that mistake. Not a big deal. A mid level team in payroll, it effects them for too long when they overpay especially for mid level guys.
April 2nd, 20128:49 pm
Are there going to be more interleague games? I thought it was pretty much going to stay the same
April 2nd, 20128:52 pm
Ray–I agree that the Mc Cutchen deal was tremendous for the Pirates.
I am curious what Bourn will get in his 30 yr old contract. I do not see the Braves offering him $9 or 10 mil per.
Hey, I want to see guys like Hanson, Jason and Freeman have the bulk of their careers in Braves unis but I do not trust that it will happen.
April 2nd, 20128:56 pm
I do assume that some fatphobic bloggers made the assumption and repeated it until others picked ip up, true or not.
Exciting week: KU vs.UK, Basketball. Tiger vs. Rory, Masters. Francisco vs.McCann, All You Can Eat Shrimpfest.
Blahh Blahh Blahh
The regulars here will be swapping recipes and talking about current movies by mid June.
By that time, the Braves will be 15 out and taking on water fast.
It’s 1989 again your turkeys! You deserve it! lol
what is it going to take to re up with the good talent like Bourn and Mc Cann, deals that are going to be on the table in the future.
Bourn and McCutcheon are one thing when you are talking about extensions. McCann is another. The horror of having McCann under a high dollar long term contract could be devastating to this franchise. Arguably McCann had his career year in 2008. He really hasn’t come close to it since. I think his best years are behind him and I’ve heard all the excuses about off season conditioning I can stand. . McCann in 6 years at $20 million is a franchise crippling opportunity.
April 2nd, 20128:58 pm
I think Bobby and the future stars USE the Braves current big league lineup! The Braves will think they are playing a regular season NL East game they way they will be used!
April 2nd, 20129:00 pm
“Stoogation causes the brain to ricochet and bounce…leading to moronic behavior.” This explains A LOT…
April 2nd, 20129:02 pm
keyLargo is using REAL logic which is in short supply on this blog. McCann is a wonderful human being and swell guy who is not going to be worth tying up with a high dollar contract for multiple years.
Sorry McCann fans, that’s just a fact! Leave your fandom at the door and think about reality.
April 2nd, 20129:04 pm
They should blow this team up and start over. Keep Freeman, Kimbrel and Venters and sign Victorino in the offseason. The rest can go to somewhere else. Stupit lozers
April 2nd, 20129:08 pm
I got a Kindle Fire for my birthdayand I’m typing on it now. Such a cool gift!
April 2nd, 20129:11 pm
(I don’t guess the new Mrs. Efrim would be all that excited about you checking box scores instead of passing her longing gazes, LOL. That Heyward. He can test a man.)
Thanks, scoots! And yes, the iPhone will be ablaze of box scores in hoping that Heyward posts 2 for 2, XBH’s, 2 BB performances. I’ll be back by June 4th, though. Should be a fun night awaiting for #21 – and that polished college pitcher who can’t break 90mph……..
April 2nd, 20129:13 pm
Happy Birthday, Brava.
Congrats…one question. Is she a Niners fan?
April 2nd, 20129:14 pm
April 2nd, 20129:15 pm
Gotta master the spacebar.
April 2nd, 20129:16 pm
I turn 30 tomorrow. Yay.
April 2nd, 20129:18 pm
Happy birthday to both of you
April 2nd, 20129:19 pm
ARIES rules, CTB!
Why thank you cab
April 2nd, 20129:21 pm
Thank you, Cab. Trying to get the knack of this thingy.
April 2nd, 20129:22 pm
Pisces are pretty cool…Rossy is a Pisces. JONNY is a Pisces. MAC IS A PISCES…
Good luck, Heath.
Good luck, DOB.
I hate both of your teams.
April 2nd, 20129:23 pm
Happy Birthday, CTB
April 2nd, 20129:24 pm
Took me a bit to get used to my iPad, and my iBook (seriously, the mousepad on this thing is so different…literally tool me a month to figure out what I was doing to make the screen zoom in…)
April 2nd, 20129:25 pm
Happy birthday to all the birthday people. Party away.
Here’s hoping you have a long and happy marriage, Efrim.
April 2nd, 20129:27 pm
She is now, cab.
April 2nd, 20129:28 pm
According to ESPN every year UK has won the National Title, the Yankees win the World Series. So if you’re not a basketball fan but love the baseball diamond you still have a team to root for, KU!
1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996 and 1998.
And let’s be honest, that’s all that matters, right? (well, that and the Braves…)
April 2nd, 20129:29 pm
Uh oh. They better hope Kidd-Gilchrist is okay.
April 2nd, 20129:30 pm
So that’s what happened, damn those Wildcats.
Tie up??? Seriously? Wow what a bad call…
April 2nd, 20129:31 pm
cab, the Niners have no holes. Perhaps at RG. But that’s honestly it. Deepest team in the NFL and the draft hasn’t even happened.
Yeah, this thing will take some getting used to, cab.
April 2nd, 20129:33 pm
I know. It’s been a long time since I have been so happy with the Niners offseason. They have made some great moves that both help the team and allow for financial flexibility. Having all 11 starters back on that great D makes me really, really happy. Jed York & Trent Baalke are smart men (as is Jim Harbaugh…)
Thank you, Soph.
April 2nd, 20129:34 pm
Osama’s a Pisces
Happy birthday Brava
April 2nd, 20129:35 pm
the iBook mousepad works pretty much like the screen on the iPhone- all touch and depending on how you swipe your fingers (and how many you swipe), it does different things…still don’t know all of them (and the screen still randomly does weird things when I least expect it…)
April 2nd, 20129:36 pm
jeffrey, is the carnival closed this week?
April 2nd, 20129:37 pm
Yeah, Soph. They also payed us on Friday, and I decided to celebrate by spending a ton of money this weekend. I wish I could say it was exciting stuff, but it’s a lawnmower, Blu-Ray player, curtain rods, etc
April 2nd, 20129:38 pm
Well he was still born in March no matter if he’s dead or alive
April 2nd, 20129:41 pm
Man, UK is stifling KU. Just taking the ball from them.
(and the screen still randomly does weird things when I least expect it…)
Mine too, I’ll be working away and all of a sudden there are naked women on my screen, crazy huh.
April 2nd, 20129:42 pm
Speaing of the Blu-Ray player…I got a Best Buy gift card for my birthday and finally decided to spend it. I got a few movies I knew I should see, but the one I really wanted was only on Blu-Ray. So I figured…what the heck, I’ll get a Blu-Ray player. I also had a Visa gift card that would’ve eased the burden from the amount the Best Buy card wouldn’t cover.
Now I’ve never used a Visa gift card. So it’s only natural that the only time I do try to use one is the 40 minute window when their system was down. I thought I was given a dud
April 2nd, 20129:44 pm
everyone wants to be like me
April 2nd, 20129:47 pm
BALLGAME, BLOWOUT….Kansas sucks!
April 2nd, 20129:54 pm
I thought everybody knew that Kentucky would win the whole thang….
April 2nd, 20129:55 pm
some of us might not wanta be exactly like you….
Thank you, Jeffrey.
April 2nd, 20129:56 pm
most of the newer BluRay players will play your regular DVDs better too.any internet apps with it?
April 2nd, 20129:57 pm
“Had to get away from all the “negative nellies”. Not sure how much with which I can deal…”
I’m Considered one of those, But I could Give a Flying F.. What the so called blog journalists/experts on here who think that…I don’t take this blog so serious. So If I’m Considered a Neg Nellie…Hell, Then So Be It
I just want us to overachieve and make the NLCS Dammit, Its Been 11 years since a LCS Series!
It’s ok. You don’t have to admit it out loud. We all know what’s in your heart
See, all that bouncyball hate is a front. I know nolie polie secretly hearts it.
April 2nd, 20129:58 pm
Happy birthday, Brava!
I was thinking more along the lines of boy/girl cab….
Happy B-Day Brava
I’m Pretty Sure you went all out on the weekend and Down in Florida? No?
April 2nd, 20129:59 pm

April 2nd, 201210:00 pm

Kentucky will win …SEC once again rising to the cream of the crop in most college sports….just hope this Braves team can speak out a wild card winner this season….just don’t look like much to much and being the experts none of you are don’t waste your breath replying to me…as a matter of fact this team seems to be in reverse instead of fast forward…
Damn, I was hoping for a tight well played basketball game. Unfortunately this getting out of hand in a hurry.
April 2nd, 201210:04 pm
The SEC is a Pisces too
April 2nd, 201210:10 pm
The SEC is most definitely NOT a Pisces
April 2nd, 201210:11 pm

April 2nd, 201210:17 pm
I did, indeed, T.
The SEC is a Sagittarius
April 2nd, 201210:21 pm
Sorry but Aries is the apex Zodiac sign. All others are just pretenders to the throne.
April 2nd, 201210:23 pm
the only team that could run with Kentucky is a healthy UNC team
April 2nd, 201210:24 pm
Simmons did show that he is not ready for the majors yet at the plate, but Pastornicky also came on strong the last week and a half.
Davis and Miller haven’t scored and we’re up 14…
I’ll take it. Just gotta play hard another 20 minutes…
April 2nd, 201210:27 pm
Brava does your girlfriend post here?
April 2nd, 201210:28 pm
By the by… I like Sir Charles as an analyst. (Having nothing to do with his propensity to pick UK… though doesn’t hurt )
April 2nd, 201210:30 pm
Hmm… Miller did score. How did I miss that? Oh well…
April 2nd, 201210:31 pm
Heath – you going to get in trouble for blogging from the locker room?
April 2nd, 201210:34 pm
Brava has a girlfriend AND a French maid’s outfield? I got DIBS
April 2nd, 201210:37 pm
My dad said pastor is the SS
April 2nd, 201210:38 pm
Apparently the hatred for Georgie being on the roster for a week and probably not even playing more than a few innings has affected nolie’s typing…
April 2nd, 201210:41 pm
outfit, i was just trying to keep it semi-related to baseball….yeah right
April 2nd, 201210:45 pm
I love Game of Thrones but will miss eddard stark this year
