An as to parenting, my baby is 33. He was a cop for seven years and has volunteered (now working for) hospice. Seems that maybe I did a pretty good job of raising a child who turned into a caring adult..

it has happened since the second game ever player. it happened constantly with every pro team I ever saw. It is not something new as your original posts seemed to assert and it has yet to be the end of society in the last 100 years either.
In the heat of competition of any kind, bad language is common and always has been. not ideal but sure not the harbinger of cultural disintegration that you seem to imply

In the heat of competition of any kind, bad language is common and always has been

It’s kinda tough to be articulate when you just miss a pitch to hit or get whiplash on the mound from watching one go out. Those are not moments that lend themselves to the quiet search for the perfect expression of emotion.

don’t get me wrong, I have little use for much of today’s “humor” that is based mostly on foul language sex and drugs, it doesn’t offend me I just don’t think it’s funny and I may even agree that it might be a bit of a negative sign, but to expect no cursing at all is pretty unreasonable as some said earlier, its the parent’s job to parent in that situation if the children are all that young.and that does seem to be lacking a lot lately

Next Offseason Outlook.

Braves will have 38 million coming off the books before raises. Obvious team needs at this point will be LF, CF, possibly 3rd Base. Still will have lot of rotation options going forward and possible trades to speculate. Plus Hudson has the 9 million option, also Jurrjens is due a raise. I don’t expect both to be on our 2013 roster. Possibly 3rd base because Prado will be due a raise and make around 7 million. He must have a bounce back year for the Braves or he could be dealt or non-tendered. Slight chance tho.

The Braves will have a good chunk of money to spend unless Ownership decides to lower payroll. But all this will be determinded how the Braves play this season.

“Fredi on the hot seat this year? Check yes or no.”

Shouldn’t it be Frank Wren on the hot seat? I mean Fredi can only manage the players he is given. If they weren’t good enough to win it last year…and they don’t bring in anyone new to compete in a more difficult division…it can’t be the manager’s fault….it should be the guy acquiring the talent.

Should be. Guy had an epic collapse under his watch and decided to do absolutely nothing about it. Do I agree or disagree with his decision? I dunno. If they really didn’t have any money you can’t blame the guy….but it looks really bad if you don’t come in 2nd this year and win the wild card….especially after no moves to improve the team.

Wren has done all he can to put together a winner with limited resources… can’t blame him for injuries, poor bullpen usage, lack of hitting with RISP, or for a seller’s FA pitching market.

Fredi, on the other hand… right or wrong, fair or not, he’s the skipper and he has accountability for the on-field performance.

If he’s not feeling a little added pressure this season then he’s about as dumb as I figured he is. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him in deep doodoo if this team fails to at least make a competitive run at one of the 8 wild card spots.

MFin04

March 29th, 2012
6:06 pm

The 89 win team that should have been a 96 game win team easy. And a guy who decided that even though the Nationals and Marlins clearly got a lot better, the Braves didn’t need to do anything more to compete.

If the Braves don’t end up with at least one of the 2 wild card spots, his job should be in jeopardy….because his decisions directly influenced this team.

Hoping the Asencio move is freeing up cash as a precursor to taking on Byrd. Is that possible?

MFin04

March 29th, 2012
6:09 pm

Wren is more responsible for this team’s performance than Fredi’s. And I don’t think Fredi has been a bad manager. In fact, he probably handled the team last year better than Bobby Cox would have.

But Frank Wren was clearly determined not to make any moves and stick with his team. If that pays off, then he is a genius and should be rewarded. If not, he looks like an idiot and there maybe should be some consequences.

MFin04

March 29th, 2012
6:14 pm

“Hoping the Asencio move is freeing up cash as a precursor to taking on Byrd. Is that possible?”

I doubt it. Haven’t the Braves recently purchased two different players for cash considerations? It probably is just helping to pay off those guys.

unbelievable

March 29th, 2012
6:15 pm

Fredi is more responsible when Wren gives him a good product and he doesnt know how to manage it. Wren didnt have the budget room to go after players like Miami and Washington did. Either way both of those teams finished over 20 games back of the Phils last season and they didnt get that much better.

Hard to make moves when you are having to trade playes (Lowe) just to stay within your salary guidelines.

DOB and the censors wouldn’t post a post from me yesterday, maybe because it was too long or they didn’t agree with it, but I followed up on every player (pitchers) on the 40 man roster in 2008. That was the team Frank Wren inherited. You want to know how many of those pitchers are still with the Braves? Three (3). You want to know how many of those were any good in 2008? Tim Hudson – that’s it.

Peter Moylan and Jair Jurrjens were on the 40 man too but had not contributed on the MLB level.

That’s what a 72 win team is like. Bleak.

Murph

March 29th, 2012
6:22 pm

Sorry MFin, but I think your stance on Wren is ridiculous. He’s made the moves he’s been able to make… and he didn’t make knee-jerk moves that would have ended up weakening the team.

The Braves won 89 games last year partly because of Wren, not despite him. He can’t rub his hands together and heal injuries ala Mr Miyagi. He can’t print funny money and use it to pay free agents with.

There are a lot of teams in the league who would have killed to win 89 games last season.

All hail Wren!
