I agree with you on Heyward. Very realistic assumption that it’s mainly in his head. A few good games to start the season will go a long way for his confidence.
Watching Heyward walk is just not important to me. Yes I want to see him reach base but we all know that if there is a negative it’s in that swing. I want to see the swing work in the spring more than the eyes to take pitches.
Then again, if he’s seeing it better maybe he’ll put a better swing on it?
Man, Freddie’s swing compared to Jason’s is night and day. Freddie looks so solid in the batters box, Heyward looks like a 100lb dangly kid up there.
If Freeman is hitting HR’s out to LF then that is a very good sign. I really think the added muscle will help those opposite field shots get over the fence…like a Chipper Jones in his prime used to do.
This is my work distraction, VJ. But I’ve already had a conversation with my Mets-loving customer this afternoon. I sent him an email after Bourn’s HR, and he felt the need to call me after the Mutts scored 4. I really don’t want the Braves to lose and have to listen to him gloat.
DOB or anyone who has been able to watch Braves in spring, how has Heyward looked so far? I keep hearing how good he looks but then his stats don’t look that great. Is he hitting the ball hard to all fields?
Jimmy – if I wasn’t trying to work at the same time it might be. You’re welcome to those who have issued thanks – only have a few more games for me to do it…
Given that the NL has lost Gonzalez, Pujols, Fielder in last 2 years and Howard is hurt, only Joey Votto stands out as someone definitely ahead of him right now.
Heyward looked fine today — two hard hit balls and a decent eye at the plate. He looked comfortable. The called 3rd strike on a 3-2 count was a pitcher’s pitch.

The Marlins could be good too, but the y also could also blow up at anytime.I The Phillies will be hurt the most by the Marlins and Nats if they truly are improved. They have runaway with the division by feasting on the nats and fish the past few years. The Braves will be fine if the pitching stays healthy. The offense was really bad last year so you gotta think it will be better but I truly think in the end it all comes down to Heyward. If he puts up numbers like his rookie year the Braves will make the playoffs. If he repeats last year then we were fighting for the last wildcard spot.
Go Braves!!!!
In defense of Matt Diaz, he wasn’t brought here to be an everyday player. He was brought here to hit left handed pitchers which he has done pretty well over the course of his career. He had a bad year last year and he has had a pretty terrible spring, but he is also a traditionally slow starter. I’m inclined to give the guy a chance mostly because he is a likeable fellow. And after all, it is just spring training.
Coach – Must admit I’m impressed. You were able to find five people who know how to read and write that agree with you. Yep, mighty impressive.

The numbers in the 2nd and 3rd columns tell the story of AJ over Diaz:
.302 and .297/.303 vs .341 and .356 OBP
.438 and .314/.324 vs .486 and .495 SLG
Diaz isn’t anything but an empty batting average compared to AJ.
