Jonny Venters threw a pain-free long-toss session on Friday after resting this week due to a sore elbow.
Venters felt some soreness after Sunday’s appearance against the Orioles, so the Braves didn’t want to take any chances coming off his huge workload last year. The good news is that the rest seems to have paid off. “They just wanted to give me a couple of days to let it rest and get it feeling good again, so that I can go into the year feeling strong and good,” said Venters. “It feels great now. I’m actually excited about it.” Venters believes he’ll be ready to pitch in a game again by Tuesday. Mar. 23 – 8:38 pm et
Found out that I won all the games tonight. Good recovery from last night. Coulc it be North Carolina, and Kentucky? For the Final 2,or Could Kansas play Kentucky?
uga-brave: It was a great list. I wa glad that our paper, like other media outlets, is reflecting a change in eating-out habits and incorporating more casual restaurants instead of just the expensive and/or formal places that used to completely dominate such lists.
Good Morning Everyone, I’m a future thinker so here ya go, the Braves will have 38 million coming off the books for sure after the season (before ARB raises). Depending on how our Braves do in 2012 will determine if the payroll will go up or down. But regardless the Braves should have a decent amount of money after raises to add some solid players.
We have to think Michael Bourn will be signing with someone else, so CF will be a need, also with Chipper retiring and most likely Prado moving to third LF will be a need. Everything else will be determined by this season. Questions about our rotation depth with Jurrjens due a raise and Huddy having a option year, McCann and a possible extension, Prado will have to play good enough to warrant the Braves keeping him for around 7 million. Then the trio of youngsters Teheran, Delgado and Gilmartin will have a better idea with what we have going forward. Also at shortstop we should have a better idea of who is gonna be our guy between Pastor and Simmons.
Players who are not under contract for 2013 or could possibly be gone. Due to depth or players who are due raises but could be non-tendered or traded based on 2012 performance.
Sitting in the river bottoms leaned up against a red oak tree in the dark. Owls are hooting. Coyotes howling. Waiting for the first old’ gobbler to announce his presence. It’s a shame to know most folks don’t ever know love like this.
A wedge appears to be forming between new manager Bobby Valentine and new general manager Ben Cherington on the best way to employ Daniel Bard, starter or reliever, and the best place to employ shortstop prospect Jose Iglesias, Fenway Park or Pawtucket.
We have the first sign of discord in this shotgun marriage. Whose evaluation wins out, Valentine’s or Cherington’s, is going to signal how the Sox are going to be run and who wields the power in baseball operations.
The Sox can talk about collaborative processes and multifactorial reviews all they want, but at the end of the day someone gets the final say.
Don’t forget that Cherington didn’t choose Valentine. He was foisted upon him by Sox president and CEO Larry Lucchino, the man who runs the Red Sox, after ownership was underwhelmed by Cherington’s choice of onetime Sox third base coach Dale Sveum. Ownership did to Sveum what he used to do to Sox base runners – sent him home without a chance.
