I’m going to be in so much trouble tomorrow…little tiger is playing with his older brothers nerf gun and when his mommy gets home tomorrow all hell is going to break loose
I don’t see how you can leave MEDLEN out of the rotation at this point. There is a very logical argument for putting and keeping him in the bullpen, but – IMO – that argument only holds up if you have five (or even four) solid starters. I’m not sure the Braves can say that right now. Sure, it’s just ST, but the only guy throwing well is MINOR. HANSON has been decent, but with health setbacks (and the carry-over question marks), and each of the other four rotation candidates have had a rough time finding their groove. Maybe a couple of months (or weeks) from now the picture will look different, but right now, I think we need one more depend starter more than we need one more middle relief guy.
I think Braves should sign Mike Gonzalez. I know he isn’t the guy the Braves had a few years ago, he is older, and his injuries just keep coming, but braves need help in the bullpen, he should be cheap since he remains unsigned, and he is a lefty.
I wouldn’t give Delgado or Teheran the job because they simply don’t deserve it by the way they’ve pitched, but Medlen on the other hand does deserve it, and it’s only 2 or 3 starts. Why not take a shot, improve the bullpen, the rotation, and send both Teheran and Delgado to the minors so they can start gaining confidence once again.
George, right now I’m about 60/40 on this season, 60% of me thinks it won’t be a good one. Hopefully if it is as I predict right now that they won’t tease us. Looks like they’re being more considerate this time judging by their spring so far and the injuries. Can’t help the injuries, but it will help the disappointment for later.
trey – then I’ll be in trouble for taking him flying without her in the airplane. Lose lose situation for me but I get to fly so not a bad idea. At least delay the pain
Soph – How many catchers were taken before McCann was taken? It was several rounds and catchers taken. I’m sorry, but the managers were after production, not picking by their hearts.
No idea, Jimmy. I actually forgot about the draft so I missed a few rounds but it was my pick when I finally made it so I went for Mac. It’s not like he’s chopped liver so can’t really say I was picking with my heart. Not like I went after David Ross or something.
In fact, this is the first year I even have Braves on my team – I normally stay away.
They caught him and he is being held for attempted murder. Seriously I hurt from my eyebrows to my knees. I just came on here to get rid of my problem. Maybe a few jokes makes me feel better.
What has Teheran or Delgado shown this spring to show they are major league ready much less that they are ready to be a starter on a team with post-season aspirations?
If Medlen does not get consideration for that 5th starter job out of the gate, I think I will scream. The dude has earned it. There is nothing but stubborness now to say that Medlen will not be considered for the 5th starter
Guess shirking my PBP duties made the Braves think they didn’t have to bother getting more than 3 hits (or else it was the collective realization that the season has been doomed by this injury)…
Enjoyed your Blackberry “Gobbler” post from this morning. Watchout for those pit vipers. I saw three this week on the golf course. The lazy lowlife were just laying around on weeds and looked like they had the cotton mouth.
I’m not a huge Braves fan but I really appreciate Chipper’s professionalism, effort, and results over these many years.
My favorite thing about Chipper is how he answered those arrogant and classless “Laaareee” cheers from the NY fans by quietly and mercilessly crushing them at the plate game after game, series after series, year after year. That was a beautiful thing to watch.
Also I like the idea of looking at Johnny Damon. I mentioned him a lot during the trade deadline. He would be a good benefit to the Braves. Sign Damon, and good investment.
noleee- Damon is a good solid player, and comes out to play hard every day. He plays with energy, and finds a way to help the team win. He’s a winner when the game is on the line.Good investment….
Ward – how many games have you watched Damon play to come up with that perspective? I’m not saying its inaccurate but to say he comes to play hard every day you must be watching 100 games a year he plays in.
SS Pastornicky had 1 of only 3 Braves hits (and their only extra-base hit) on Sat., making him 7-for-13 in his past 4 games. Average still puny, but up about 100 points to .224. Has 1 walk in 55 PAs all spring.
Expectation should have been for Chipper to sit out 40 – 50 games this season. I’m sure the Braves have a contigency plan, because Chipper came into camp talking about being able to play, and retirement.

It’ll be 14U in no time tiger. Best of luck. ENJOY! Family and sharing time is all there really is in this life. The only thing you’re gonna’ have when you’re gone, is what you give to others while you’re here.
I’m only on for a minute, but I saw your question about where to get the jerseys. Here’s a link to the website and make sure you sign up for their mailing list so you can save an additional 15% on your order.
Sorry, but ol Chip should’ve hung em up the other day. No way Wren has the funds to get a true impact player this time of year, plus other teams would want a ton for that type of player. Chipper however is causing more pain to the team with all the “will he play, when will he come back” and on and on.
Hudson might not be back to his normal self until Jurrjens has an ERA of 8, Hanson is fighting pain in his right shoulder and the offense has once again spun that poor bullpen into the ground. Our ace is missing in action and we have two dependable arms in the rotation right now with Hanson and Beachy. Minor I don’t just yet. He isn’t proven by any means.
This could be a long year for us Braves fans, I’m afraid.
What are we, like 6-13 this spring? Can’t say I’m surprised at all. Coming off that September and who’s leading this team, it all makes perfect sense. Fredi has no leadership skills. All you have to think about is how he handled post game situations to the media during the September slide. Dude was a babbling, stuttering fool with no clue what to say. I’m sure his players saw this clearly and had more an empty feeling than walking off the field game after game in embarrassing defeat.
By the way, you should have added that when Chipper played in 140 games as a rookie in 1995, the schedule was only 144 games because the 1994 strike spilled into the start of the next season. Overall, Chipper played in 97.01% of the games (1,397 of 1,440) over his first nine full major league seasons from 1995-2003, prior to suffering a partially torn hamstring in April 2004, and he never missed a playoff game until 2010, when he was out for the season with the second ACL tear of his career. Indeed, people forget how durable he happened to be through age thirty-one, which folks used to consider around the limit of one’s athletic prime prior to the steroids era.
jeffrey well yeah, but he might as well have anyways I guess. Guys, I doubt Chip plays more than 40 games anymore. Physically impossible. Sad, but a guy who was on a true winner pretty much his whole career will go out on a losing team. Should’ve and could’ve been different.
The issue isn’t funds because most of the potential impact players who might be available carry enormous contracts that the Braves wouldn’t want to absorb in any case. Even if Chipper had already retired, Atlanta absolutely would not seek to trade for Carl Crawford or Jason Bay or Jayson Werth given the size and length of their contracts.
Besides, Chipper shouldn’t miss much more than a month, if that, and he still posted an OPS+ of 123 last season.
Sad, but a guy who was on a true winner pretty much his whole career will go out on a losing team
Or maybe…maybe they’ll actually play the games instead of accepting the widely obvious foregone conclusion that the Braves will win no more than 15 games.
that’s irrelevant anyhow. Chipper could play all 162 games and we’d still be in trouble. Good luck having an offense that has no concept of any sort of consistency, filled with key hitters (CJ, Heyward, McCann) who have all had recent histories of injury, a rotation with an ace who is shelved and you don’t know what you’re getting from him when he gets back, and two other starters who could easily go down for the count at any time. Oh and the bullpen might be super gluing their arms together mid season with the way they’ve been abused.
Yes because watching my beloved team erode away in the final month of the season and watching them suffer the same God D&% problems the following spring just gives me a WARM and FUZZY feeling all over. Do you watch and understand what’s going in Soph, or do you just get a great feeling knowing baseball is on the way? Me, I want my team to be good and show signs of improving. They are doing nothing more than repeating their terrible play from a few months ago and we keeping reading doofus Fredi’s same old “we’re getting there, we’re showing signs of life”. Sure they are.
Yeah Jeffrey, Chip playing so much and producing sure helped avoid a gazillion extra inning games and burning out a very talented group in our pen, didn’t it? What’s your point of Chip’s production compared to other 3rd baseman anyways? You see, the same offense is in tact and showing zero improvement, aside some from JHey, this spring.

… terrific piece, DOB.

Michael,
The issue isn’t funds because most of the potential impact players who might be available carry enormous contracts that the Braves wouldn’t want to absorb in any case.

Or maybe…maybe they’ll actually play the games instead of accepting the widely obvious foregone conclusion that the Braves will win no more than 15 games.

Watch Francona take over this team in 2013 and it will feel like the 90’s all over again to you guys who can’t let that go.

that’s irrelevant anyhow.

Chipper had the 3rd highest OPS among NL thirdbasemen last season (behind Aramis Ramirez and Pablo Sandival) and 2nd highest on the team.
Did Chipper steal your girlfriend in middle school or something?
