Latest news on CHIPPER very sad, could be the best thing for him would be call it a day and go out with last years good stats. Have him in the tv booth a lot.
“Can this team, as currently constructed, take advantage of an easy april schedule and a weak Phillies team until mid may or early june?”
Doubt It but anything can happen in 7 months, The Phillies had a gang of injuries last year and we still didn’t take advantage. The NL was our for the Taking because the league was so weak last year. Thats why a lot of fans are sill P’d
The way Delgado and Tehran are throwing is even more of a reason to start the season with Medlen in the rotation. I understand Kris’s value in the pen, but with either one of these two rookies we will need to use the pen more for each time they pitch.
Hudson will be back at the end of April anyway, might as well leave them down in AAA to get their ship righted until needed.
Even so called Great Managers luck into a ring. See La Russa last season. That was not even the 3rd best team in the NL, But a string of luck took them all of the way.
I’m always lurking. I at least read the main blog, sometimes skim through the comments. Just don’t post much. I’ll have to look up that show. archive.org?

Im always amazed at the inability of this team to take advantage of situations. 3 or 4 years of the same BS. Im praying for something different this season.
Arthroscopic surgery is the standard OUTPATIENT, performed in the doctors office, not a Hospital, treatment to repair a meniscus tear. Meniscus tears typically occur in sports that require fast starts, stops, cuts and pivots. The medial meniscus (near the inside of the knee) is most commonly torn.
Arthroscopic surgery is generally recommended for meniscus tears. This surgery removes the torn tissue and saves the healthy meniscus. Without surgical repair, the tear will likely continue with activity and fragments of the torn meniscus may damage the smooth articular cartilage of the knee, resulting is not only pain, but possibly arthritis.
Types of Arthroscopic Surgery for a Meniscus Repair
Surgery for meniscus tears includes meniscus removal (meniscectomy), meniscus repair, or in meniscus replacement. For most patients meniscus repair is successful and there are very low rates of complications. Arthroscopic meniscus repair surgery is an elective procedure so it can be scheduled based upon the patient’s needs, but is best performed within two months after the injury. Patients should use this time tp get a second opinion and talk with orthopedic surgeons who work with athletes and have performed meniscus repairs with good results.
Arthroscopic surgery is done by inserting small instruments and a small camera into the knee joint through several small incisions and examining and repairing the tissue. The surgery is done under general and local anesthesia and takes about one to two hours.
Recovery Meniscus Tear Surgery
After about two hours rest, patients typically leave the office. Arthroscopic meniscus repair can cause pain and discomfort after surgery so pain medication is generally provided for up to three days after surgery..
A knee brace and cold packs are used after surgery to reduce swelling and control pain. The brace keeps the leg straight. Depending on the extent of the tear, patients may weight bear immediately or within one to two days. The surgeon will provide detailed instructions to follow. Keeping the leg and knee elevated in the days after surgery will also speed healing.
Physical therapy can begin quickly after surgery. The main focus is to decrease swelling, regain full range of motion and build muscle strength.
If either Teheran or Delgado come out of spring training as the one-month 5th starter while posting an 8.00+ ERA while Medlen sits in the bullpen as the long-man (who typically pitches in blow-outs) with a sub 1.00 ERA, then I will… I will… damn, I will be pissed. What idiocy!
true, but my point was that having a WS win is no guarantee that a mgr isn’t an idiot, and Ozzie is, and not liked at all either.
He had worn out his welcome and got lucky that the Fish had a new park and were looking to make a splash, which Ozzie likely will.
unfortunately that is often true, but i just figgered that was the kinda response you were striving for from somebody and I didn’t wanna see you disappointed
noleee – Really I just want him to be healthy when he comes back. Braves have this history of letting players rush things…especially McCann and Chipper. They are often cautious with pitchers, hopefully they don’t allow Chipper to rush this either.
For the last 30 years I have heard, from baseball people, if your lineup is so weak that you depend on offense from the 7th and 8th hole hitters the offense is bad to begin with
So….raise your hand if you’d prefer Medlen in the rotation.
I think it’s time the Braves back down from the ridiculous insistence the he be in the bullpen. We need him in the rotation and as of right now he’s clearly the Braves best option!
I really hope the front office is not this stupid and ignorant.
The truth is, Delgado and Teheran have sucked all spring. Medlen has pitched more than well enough to make that rotation. Behind Minor, he’s the next best performer on the mound this spring.
DOB said that Hudson could be back by the Pirates series at the end of April. Meaning barring setbacks the 5th starter will be needed only twice if they skip him on regular rest due to off days or a max of 3 times if he is not skipped.
Still would like to see Kris get into the rotation, but I guess it is not as pressing since the 5th starter will have at most 3 starts before Hudson returns barring any setbacks. However, any setbacks with any of our starters including Hudson and we will wish we had Medlen in the rotation.
That lineup really still could be very good. Heyward just has to be a .300/.400/.500 guy. Big IF right now. Freeman can’t slump. Bourn and Prado have to get on base at a high rate.
Well, it wouldn’t be a Braves game if we weren’t getting stung by former Braves.
If you put Kelly Johnson, Yunel Escobar, Frenchy, and Willie Harris on the same team, we’d lose 100 straight to them.
I hear all the hoopla for Delgado and (especially) Teheran. I read the experts’ take in the prospectus.
I just simply don’t see any evidence of their transcendental specialness. They have promise. And when they mature, they will likely be MLB caliber pitchers, and maybe even quality ones.
But Teheran does not look like he’s close to figuring out what it takes to get to the next level.
And his stuff, as of now, does not look very dazzling.
And Delgado just gave up 100 runs.
Maybe Medlen doesn’t possess their natural abilities, but he gets batters out.
Period.

Trade Jair Jurrjens and Robert Fish to White Sox for Brent Lillibridge and Matt Thornton
Sign Roy Oswalt
Medlen in rotation until Huddy and Oswalt are ready
I just believe the young pitchers need more time and to be honest just dont like JJ at this stage of his career. Thornton and JJs salaries matchup. Lillibridge can “bridge” the gap at alot of spots. Oswalt is a good fit for 1 year and it is obvious the Braves are better with Medlen in rotation to start the year although I like him in the bullpen when everyone is healthy or ready.
And I would still be looking for an OF bat for the future. Like a Delgado and Hoover for Bourjos deal.
Thanks, I’ll check that out. I might even have that show on a cassette somewhere. I have a bunch of recordings of different things from back then. I should probably dig that stuff out before the cassettes are ruined, I guess. The main thing I remember about the Lot Lizards was that we just tried to be as loud as possible. Patterson was a little sick of doing the acoustic thing at the time, if I remember correctly. Fun times.
Man, I really with that the phillies would have re-signed Madson to that huge contract that was reported in the offseason.
that would have been awesome!
As it turns out, now I just feel badly for the Reds and their fans
Medlen must be in the starting rotation. Both Delgado and Teheran have shown that they need more minor league time. Not a slam on those 2 by any means – they are both still very, very young, but they are not major league ready at least to start the season.
with Chipper on the DL to start the season – do the Braves have Terdoslavich start at 3B or do they have Martin start at 3B with someone else (Parraz?) starting in LF?
Or do the Braves go ahead and make a big deal to get an OF (LF/CF) and let Prado take CHipper’s place while he is out. Prado would then get the super utility roll again when Chipper is back – each week- 2 starts at 3B, 1 start at 2B, and 2 starts in LF (with the new LF spelling Bourn for one of those games)
Medlen must be in the starting rotation. Both Delgado and Teheran have shown that they need more minor league time.
I’ve forgotten Brian. Would you please remind me how many innings Medlen had last season after his Tommy John surgery? From that point to a starter in a MLB rotation opening day? Nope, I don’t think so.
wren would do well to prepare for the season without chipper. he’ll come back, yes, but at what level? and how long will he be able to stay healthy? i’d hope for the best, but plan for the worst. wren should be seriously looking for a lefty bat to platoon w/diaz.
so we need to add a distraction player to this mess? kinda doubt it.
and where do y’all think they are gonna get the funds for that suggested big deal for an OFer?

Angel’s might release Bobby Abreu because he’s become a distraction and is struggling. Still would be worth to bring in.

Wow CB. Yeah I remember you took Madson. So how does that work? Can you release him and pick up another pitcher?

I’ve forgotten Brian. Would you please remind me how many innings Medlen had last season after his Tommy John surgery? From that point to a starter in a MLB rotation opening day? Nope, I don’t think so.

Wilson, Vizcaino, Hudson, Venters and now Chipper…..
The injury bug is the one thing capable of completely derailing this season, and we aren’t even past spring training.

Abreu makes since at this point, plus I still like Johnny Damon but I doubt that happens.

wren would do well to prepare for the season without chipper. he’ll come back, yes, but at what level? and how long will he be able to stay healthy? i’d hope for the best, but plan for the worst. wren should be seriously looking for a lefty bat to platoon w/diaz.
